Thank you so much Claudia! Glad you enjoyed the vlog and it’s given us a chance to catch up with ourselves by taking the break from filming over the winter. In these upcoming videos we’ve been trying to film a little more of what we do other than cruising for a little more insight into this mostly lovely life 😊
Just food for thought some woods when bleached turn green oak is one . good luck guys stay safe out there . The wife has dementia but she really lights up when the dogs show up .
We have't had that happen yet with the oak trim around the fireplace but thanks for the heads up for future use. It's lovely to hear that your wife loves seeing the dogs in our videos. My dad with dementia was the same, he would light up when we visited with the dogs. Poppy would run in to greet him, and assume her position up on the back of the armchair behind his head, and Hamish would tuck himself him next to my dad. Happy memories for sure 😊
The boat is looking beautiful, you’ve both done a grand job. If Pete’s for hire I have a load of DIY jobs he could do for me 😂😂 Can’t wait to see what you’ve got planned for the rest of the year 🥰
I’ll send Pete over Lesley! He’s always up for a challenge and has saved us so much money, often with me googling a solution and ordering a part and him watching a UA-cam video to fix something! We are excited to share our cruising plans 😊
Another great video guys 😊 really enjoyed watching that - Poppy is such a cheeky character. Hamish is a great old boy. I really enjoyed seeing the maintenance section too. I think it would be interesting to see more of that. 👍🏻🤓
Thanks so much Dave! You’ve got their personalities sussed for sure. We’ve been trying to capture far more of everything we do that’s not just cruising in these latest videos I’ve been filming 😊
Everyone needs a Pete on board. That wood came up lovely. Have you thought of some old cardboard boxes on the floor to take the worst of the mud and wet.
You're right, everyone does need a Pete on board, as he really does have a fix for most things with a little research! We do have some boards and old towels that we keep up on the back deck, to dry off and take most of the mud, but we try and stay on top of it as best we can with daily vacuuming once it has dried, and swishing the mop over. Thankfully it's such a small space it doesn't take too long to clean! 😊
Ha ha ha that made us laugh Beth! I didn't even get Poppy's permission to show her in the shower! I'm excited that our videos will be so much more current now, and we will be including a little more of our day to day life too 😊
Absolutely brilliant video and you’ve almost caught up to June 2024!! Am in awe of how calm Pete is whilst scrubbing and sanding and cleaning and and and plus was really great to see more of life onboard rather than just endless canal views! Wow those eggs on toast looked amazing. Loved the soundtrack as usual and can’t wait to see where turning right takes you as that’s what Kath & I will be doing on our first trip - Grand Union looks a bit narrow though…..Have a great day, Cheers Swanny
Glad you and Kath enjoyed it Swanny, and we too are relieved that our videos will so much more up to date now! We've been trying to include a lot more of our day to day life whilst filming the 2024 videos, as we do get lots of questions about all sorts of things so we can show a bit more detail, now we are current. There will still be lots of cruising though with the lovely music. I am constantly browsing the music library I use find more favourites to save and include. Can't wait to show you more of what we get up to and where you will be travelling while you wait for your own boating dream to come to life 😊
Glad you enjoyed it Eric! You're so right, it's good to be out on the cut again after our unexpected marina winter, although we would be grateful for a little better weather than the rain and cold we are still getting in June! 😊
@@onedaymoreaboard same here tbh, hail and wind as well today pff but being out in nature will be healing as well. Congrats to how you keep the boat clean amidst all that mud and lock jizz as Heidi would say. Safe travels, guys. ❤️🐕🐕❤️
Thank you very much Jill! Sadly it never stays clean for very long, especially with all the rain, and therefore mud we have had this year, but at least we know we are keeping on top of it! Hamish is our funny old man plodding along loving boat dog life keeping his crazy sister in check 😂😊
I'm not actually a dog person, but Poppy is an absolute delight - she's so characterful. Hamish is Mr. Steady-on-old-chap, no risks taken here. Greatly looking forward to your 2024 schedule.
We have heard the same from so many people, even from a lady who was passing our boat on the tow path yesterday! Poppy had won the heart of this regular walker on the towpath, who had seen her popping her head out of the canopy to say hello for the last few days, and always stopped to 'chat' with her! And yes, Hamish is definitely our steady old man who just keeps plodding on enjoying his boat dog life (except for the mud!). We are excited that our videos will now be much more current 😊
My first acquaintance with the UK canal system was while studying Modern History for the Higher School Certificate (Sydney, Australia). One of the topics was the reasons for UK becoming the first industrialised nation in the world - the canal system, of course! We are “boaties”, sailing and cruising on Sydney Harbour, but I enjoy watching you cruising the canal system. Next time we are in the UK we might hire a narrow boat and try our luck! Keep boating! 🇦🇺
That's interesting that you learnt about the British industrial revolution in your history lessons in Australia Carolyn! It was actually one of my favourite periods to study, and I look back and think how on earth am I now living on these historic waterways that we learnt so much about, and were such a key part of British history. You really should hire a narrowboat and see what a wonderful slow paced life it is. I'm not sure if you watch Fran and Rich on UA-cam channel Floating Our Boat, but they had a wonderful experience welcoming round the world solo sailor Dee Caffari on board their narrowboat for a couple of days to experience the slower pace. Take a look at the video here, it's just fabulous! ua-cam.com/video/3TL8EKWihU8/v-deo.htmlsi=VyG-tEW1SVzXXv1d 😊
Good Morning Both, Well Done Pete. I'm not aware of another utube channel that shows you general care of a newish narrowboat. Would love to see more. Well Done👍X🐰x
Good morning Julie! That's funny you should say that as I've recently been trying to include a lot more of us in and around the boat when I've been filming the current 2024 vlogs that you will be seeing in the next few weeks. Still lots of cruising obviously, but more a little more day to day living too, including maintenance, to give more of an insight into this lovely life 😊
Love your videos! Watching them all. Tell handsome Pete Screwfix do a little bottle of sealant remover. Paint it on. 10 mins all comes off for next time. Hope your both well. Stu on foxy doxy. Saw you at buggy and gave you a lithium lesson
Hi Stu, I remember our chat at Bugsworth Basin very well, we had our batteries changed a few weeks later and have never looked back 😊. A real game changer for us! I didn’t even know about sealant remover but will be getting some at the next Screwfix I pass. Thanks again for more brilliant advice. Thanks for watching too, pleased you enjoy our vlogs. Take care, see you again soon. Pete 😊
That was a great vlog. Thinking of you so much over the loss of your dad bless you ❤. Noted the wood oil 👍 and wondered what vacuum you use? . Lovely to see your daughter too 🥰. Never forget you carrying the dogs, still cracks us up 😀 😊❤❤❤xxxx
Glad you enjoyed it! Jasper and Hamish’s moment of worldwide fame being carried through the mud will always make us laugh!! We have the Hoover H-FREE 100 rechargeable vacuum and love it. We started off with the Dyson animal as recommended by so many, but the battery life was rubbish and when the battery finally gave up after less than 18 months we decided to just buy a new much cheaper Hoover instead of the replacement battery for the Dyson, and it’s so much better! 👍
We are so happy to be up to date with our videos finally, after taking a little break from filming over winter! Glad we can share our travels with you all the way in South Africa by the power of UA-cam! 😊
Just wanted to comment for our Labradoodle, Deckard who very much enjoyed this video. He sat and watched the whole thing. When your pups were walking along the tow path, he got down in front of the TV to go with them! LOL! Thank you! Wonderful fun! Great job, Pete! Boat looks very tidy! (Tail wag for Hamish & Poppy! 🐶)
That is awesome! Glad you all enjoyed it, especially Deckard! He sounds so similar to our Poppy who is always glued to narrowboat vlogs, some of which now feature her friends! And now she gets to star in her own, and sit up the back when we are cruising, like she has watched so many others do! 😂 ❤️
I get such a kick out of Poppy and Hamish. Especially Poppy when she sees a squirrel. The scenery around Crick was beautiful! At least the rain stopped. We've been having a lot of wind here in Washington State on the eastern side and the pollen is horrible! I have allergies and asthma and both are flaring up bad!
They make me laugh all over again when I am editing the footage Joyce! Our daughter Sophie is currently on vacation in the PNW. First time any of our family have been over that way! Sad that we didn’t make it to WA or OR when we lived in TX! Hope your allergies are not too bad for too long 😊
Thank you for the video. It was a wonderful snow storm. Think you might had a bit more then us 'flat landers' did down south of Madison. Very nice day here - mid 70's a bit of a breeze. Better then the rain yesterday - which I had to 'work in. The local Cub grocery store runs a fund raiser each week from March to November. Our club had it yesterday. Did well even if it rained yesterday. But it will be a while till I can again grill ribeye's for sandwiches / brats / hotdogs / pork chops and burgers. (I worked all the grills in those 2 days) Pet the puppies for the boss and I. Hope the family / puppies and the 2 of you are doing well. Take care and God Bless.
The snow came in so quickly it caught everyone off guard and so many were stuck! Sophie said people that had lived there for years could not remember when it was last that bad and fast, and as you know your area of the country knows how to deal with adverse weather conditions! That sounds like a fabulous fundraiser, and something that Pete would love to be involved with too, as he's our grill master! Have you seen the video back in our first year when he showed his heavy duty 50lb collapsible grill that we brought over from Texas with us??! Hope you and the boss are keeping well😊
@@onedaymoreaboard Yes I have seen that video. LOL I've seen all your video's. I might have to go back to it and watch it again. The worst snow storm for me would have been Living west of Chicago in my childhood. The 1967 storm would have been the worst. A 'mere' 23 inches of snow. When the road grader comes down the street. Pushing snow with it's huge V plow and using a side wing to push snow. You know it's bad. LOL
@@onedaymoreaboard The 1979 snow when I became a firefighter / EMT. Wasn't much fun either. Recorded at 20.3 inches total. Was a 'fun' time removing people on the ambulance cot. Took 5 or 6 people to move them from buildings to the ambulance. We drove every where with lights going. IF we stopped, the ambulance became stuck. Glad I am retired now.
Great to hear that you are back on canal again its not all fun and games is it lots of little maintaining to do just like a house keeping things spick and span. All the best for the adventure take care.
You're so right, there are lots of little jobs to do to keep on top of the boat maintenance. We are excited to show you our new, much more up to date adventures 😊
Loved seeing all the maintenance work that needs to be done on a boat and what a good job you do keeping everything up, with Poppy and Hamish to supervise, of course. Thanks for your videos. Yours were the first narrowboat videos I watched and I loved them. I’ve branched out to a few others now, Paul and Anthony and Pirate Heidi, to name a few. I never miss them and I’ve gone back to watch your earlier videos, as well.
Aren't they the most helpful supervisors Susan 😂 Glad you enjoyed watching them in action! That's lovely to hear we were your first narrowboat channel you watched, makes us feel very special. Our favourites back at the start of our journey researching this new life were also Paul & Anthony, and Heidi Pirate, and also Fran & Rich from Floating Our Boat, have you checked out their channel? We now count all of them as our best boat friends and laugh at how life turns out 😊
So glad you got to go to Wisconsin to see daughter and Whole Foods, and Nordstrom. There really is a lot to do to just maintain your home, but it's looking good. As for Poppy and Hamish, they just want you to understand that they are each sending positive energy just by supervising on site. I can tell how much you loved your time at Crick Marina. Thanks for sharing. Leigh
It was lovely to get back stateside to visit Sophie Leigh, especially having fin on our shopping trips. Glad I got in before that snow storm hit though, otherwise I can imagine it would have been travel chaos trying to get there! You're right, there's lots of positive energy coming from Poppy and Hamish, in their own way of helping! Can't wait to show you our 2024 travels, and be all up today finally 😊
Thanks so much! It was crazy snow! Thankfully Sophie had taken the day off so we could shop, so she wasn’t stuck on the Epic campus like so many! And we know that Wisconsin know how to do snow, not like Texas 😂😊
Great vlog. Lots of hard work but it must be gratifying to roll back all the signs of winter and rain/mud on the boat. Really important to do as well because deterioration can take over a boat really easy. Same for a house but a lot less water! ❤
Thanks so much Dorothy! We do try and stay on top of everything as best we can, and it was so obvious to us for the periods of time we left the boat over winter, how quickly the deterioration happens when you're not there! I think with the especially wet winter we have had this year (and spring), it has caused even more work with the greening of the canopies and the leaking chimney when we had extremely heavy rain. It keeps us busy though! 😊
Pete was certainly busy with all those jobs. Did your boat come with silicone sealant already around the windows…..there’s a novelty 😂. Poppy looked even cuter than ever when she’d been showered. Did they both tip toe round the mud or just paddle through it then back onto your cleaned boat 😂. See you soon ❤ xx
Yes imagine that, sealant in place already 😂😂 . As you can see, showering the dogs is a bit of a pain on the boat, and it's not Poppy's favourite thing at all, but yes she does look cute when she's all fluffed up! And thankfully they stayed clean for that one night by the mud with careful supervision! See you very soon ❤️
We had to get up to date some how, and taking a little break over winter seemed the easiest way, but as for the going live, who knows! At the moment that's still a scary thought, but we will never say never! 😂
Put a link to a product we get here in New Zealand that stops mould and moss forming .Don't know if you have this kind of product over there.Enjoy your videos on you tube.
Lovely 😍 to see you both. Sorry to hear about cha Dad,. ❤ I had a good relationship with my Dad but he did get nasty to me in the end, but he couldn't help it, it was dementia. ❤ Anyways great video as always. How old is Amish now ? ❤. Take care X X X
We totally know what you mean Susan, their personality changes and it's so sad to see and hear, and just having to tell yourself it's the illness. Hamish was 15 in March so he's clocking up some good years and still enjoying his boat dog life, in between sleeping! 😊
What did Pete use to clean the cratch and pram covers, please? Mine are filthy and green, they haven’t been cleaned for 2 winters now. Did he have to weatherproof them again after being washed? Thank you.
Hi Wendy, I used HLS AT55 to clean the canopies. You dilute it 50:1 with water and brush on, then wait a bit, scrub and hose off. www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08GB1M6VB?ref_=cm_sw_r_cso_cp_apin_dp_3CDKZ28W2MMVCBWHYGVV&starsLeft=1&skipTwisterOG=2 I also re proofed them with HLS FS75 to seal them again. This I sprayed on with a hand pump, it can also be applied with a brush. Seems to be working well and the canopies are very waterproof now. www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B09C8TSGNJ?ref_=cm_sw_r_cso_cp_apin_dp_FYVW85C3YS99V2BYXKWC_2&starsLeft=1&skipTwisterOG=2 I managed both pram and cratch with these sizes. Hope the links work. Pete 😊

We live in Florida and that green grows on our homes. We have to use a power washer to clean every year. I never thought about how much maintenance needs to be done on a boat.
Now you mention it, we used to have the same on our house in Texas, especially on the vinyl siding, which needed some regular blasting with the power washer.
Lovely vlog thank you
You're so welcome Jackie, glad you enjoyed it 😊
Take care and good cruising! I hope 2024 cruising season is happy for you all! ❤
Thank you so much Ann! We look forward to sharing our 2024 travels with you 😊
Your puppies are the best. I love my yorkie. Dogs are the best companions. I am glad that you were able to visit your daughter. Nice trip.
You are so kind Christine, and so right too, dogs really are the best companions and we couldn't be without them now. 😊
So true.
Such a lovely vlog. Glad you had a good visit to Wisconsin. My daughter sent me photos of all that snow!!
Thanks so much! It was crazy snow! Thankfully Sophie had taken the day off so we could shop, so she wasn’t stuck on the Epic campus like so many! And we know that Wisconsin know how to do snow, not like Texas 😂😊
Really enjoyable video guys. Looking forward to your 2024 adventures. Thanks.
So glad you enjoyed it Roger, and I am relived we will finally be much more up to date with our videos now 😊
@@onedaymoreaboard Water is definitely the worst of the "enemies".
New subscriber and really enjoying your vlogs. Love the sweet dogs content especially! Thank you!
Welcome aboard, we are so glad you found us! As you can see, Hamish and Poppy love their boat dog life 😊
Pete was certainly busy with all those jobs.
Wow - that was a big catch up! You'll be doing live streams next!
We had to get up to date some how, and taking a little break over winter seemed the easiest way, but as for the going live, who knows! At the moment that's still a scary thought, but we will never say never! 😂
Great video! Loving these adventures
Glad you like them! That's so good to hear 😊
Lovely video 😊
Glad you enjoyed it Christopher 😊
Great vlog but now I have to bleach my fireplace! 😂
Thank you! I'll send Pete over 😂
Put a link to a product we get here in New Zealand that stops mould and moss forming .Don't know if you have this kind of product over there.Enjoy your videos on you tube.
Thanks Russell! I’ll have a look. Good to hear you’re enjoying the videos from the other side of the world 😊
Lovely 😍 to see you both.
Sorry to hear about cha Dad,.
❤
I had a good relationship with my Dad but he did get nasty to me in the end, but he couldn't help it, it was dementia.
Xx
Thanks for your wonderful support as always Edward 😊
What did Pete use to clean the cratch and pram covers, please? Mine are filthy and green, they haven’t been cleaned for 2 winters now. Did he have to weatherproof them again after being washed? Thank you.
Hi Wendy, I used HLS AT55 to clean the canopies. You dilute it 50:1 with water and brush on, then wait a bit, scrub and hose off.

I also re proofed them with HLS FS75 to seal them again. This I sprayed on with a hand pump, it can also be applied with a brush. Seems to be working well and the canopies are very waterproof now.

I managed both pram and cratch with these sizes. Hope the links work.
Pete 😊
@@onedaymoreaboard thank you, I’ll look those up, I appreciate it.
Surely a dog shampoo should smell of sausages!
I'm sure they would have preferred sausage scent rather than Rhubarb and Custard! Not so pleasant for us though 😂 Thanks for watching 😊
good vid on the channel cranking it on thje cut keep up the vlogs you do thanks lee
Thanks so much Lee! 😊
Proper grafter Pete…Hamish, not so much
Pete is definitely a grafter, and Hamish is where the phrase ‘lazy dog’ comes from!
