Aggressive Skating New York Style

- My film looks at two teams of aggressive in-line rollerblader skaters - some of the best. The team from LA, -Senate and the team from New York City, FR. the film follows them as they go to the ASA championships in Florida to compete for the nationals. A beautiful movie all around that shows a deep understanding for a positive view of aggressive skaters.

"describe 1997 in one video"
Sam GG you can tell by the hemp necklace it's around 97'
Big Timer ditto...brink came out on Disney when we were in 5th grade. That was my shit.
I was born in 97!!
yeah I'm 90% sure that is a 97 or 98 toyota camry.
even the music lol
Thank you. I am very proud of this film. Although it never made it in the theaters as it never got a distributor, it has been seen by thousands of adults and some of the boys and a few girls who were aggressive skaters back then as a historical classic moment in time in American sports.
David Hoffman-filmmaker
What camera did you use at the time for this? Looks amazing
I want to see the whole film! Ahhh 🎉🎉🎉
Should’ve taken up skateboarding instead and someone would’ve distributed 😂😂😂
"My job for the summer was to go travel and meet beautiful women, drink exotic beers and just rock out all over the world"
Eu li isso no exato momento que ele estava falando kkkkkkkkkkkkkk
Sounds like a sweet deal
Even though I'm a skateboarder of over a decade... this is a cool snippet. We all know that feeling of riding with your homies through a city and not giving a damn about a single thing but the pebbles and the cracks on the ground.
amen
yeah..i relate to this heavily
@Blue Skies Media do it
@Blue Skies Media yeah the blader/boarder beef was dumb. my crew back then in the BX had a couple bikers, few skateboarders and the rest bladers. we rolled everywhere together and didnt let other crews of just boarders bikers or bladers fuck with anyone in our crew. we knew what time it was. But yeah my guy, I'm 42 and about to get back into blading. Maybe you can still roll but take it easy.🤷♂
@blueskiesmedia417 Same story here. 20 years since i rollerbladed.
This guy is so in my face
Glybirdy lololol
Bro thats his job thats the difference....
Lol! What a tool bag.
Get your face outta my face
In your face = assehole.
"Ya motha's a man" Ah simple 90's disses
It was once a powerful diss too
I thought he said "ya motha's a van!" Just adding to the fat basterd comet made earlier
Yo mama is so poor when you ring the doorbell at your house yo mama yells out the window “ding dong” 😂
This is awesome. The whole time I was waiting for the part where it gets so absurd you realize it's a parody but it never comes. It's just so NYC 90's dreamer raw.
Ive tried skateboarding and aggressive skating, and let me tell you. The freedom you get on inline skates makes it totally worth while. The two aren't even similar.
True ones for pussys who need things tied to their feet the other is for people who risk their ass.
I appreciate that u enjoyed rollerblading, whatever skating u do, on a board or on boots, just ride on 😁
Good old 90‘s. I miss you so much :-(
2:45 drink exotic beers
ahead of his time
mmm Bud Light
rock out all over the world
You that is rather exotic
You 😂
I would love to make the update. I think you would be a fabulous film. Everyone who sees the film wonders what happened to these young guys (and a few girls).
David Hoffman-filmmaker
@TheCaptain008 Thank you for your very kind words about my film. I don't do business with NetFlix as they screwed the independent filmmaker. I am afraid you will have to buy the documentary from my website. I am very proud of this film because it went way deeper than most skater movies to look at motivation, character- who these skater boys are or were. I like them very much and admired them and found throughout my production that they were honorable caring people.
David Hoffman-filmmaker
Man I loved skating and FR were my wheels back in the 90’s. Now as a dad in my 40’s it’s crazy to look back and see what I was like in my teens.
Your wheels suck
Who gives a shit if something is "dead" or out of style. If u like it do it
I'm from upstate NY, Buffalo area. Aggressive inline and punk music was huge at that time. I remember gathering with groups of other kids at the local parks/businesses and just skating for hours until the cops came. Ahh good times :(
2:06 "Your mothers a man" Ooh sick burn bro...
I love how at 2:05 a guy shouts “your mother’s a man!” and then the camera cuts to an interview with ryan’s mom lol.
Overall I like how free and uninhibited the skaters seem.
juan soro No, he says clearly that "your mother's a man". Or, if your comment was directed at me, then fuck you!
Liam Nelson it wasnt directed towars you fuck face.
But it sounds like he says 'your mother's a bitch' ive never heard anyone say your mothers a man
Liam Nelson nvm i hear it now
Love this string of comments. A daily look into two New Yorkers interacting with each other.
We gonna ignore how fire his mom was tho?
People were so different back then....in a good way. WTF happened🤣

9/11 happened. The world changed for the worse after that. My opinion.
@@russbus3930 People in the 2000s were similar to the 90s, no one was easily offended and people had a sense of humour compared to the 2010s.
the guys a douche, if this is your standard then fuck
Legend has it he's still skating to Florida to this day.
Legend has it your still telling tired joke's
@@iflopgardens Will admit that even 3 years ago this joke was already tired, but you're a little late on that one buddy.
@@jonathangentry1273 touche .
this guy is a winner , he dont seem to be on drugs
Seemed liked such simpler times, at least socially.
why is this in my recommended videos? and why cant i stop watching...
Illuminati bro... illuminati.
Me too! Never watched anything remotely close to this and there it was and I can’t click off
Right... I don't even care. But I watched the vid, read some comments and even replied to one, shit is just crazy.
Lol
Nostalgia
dude, this dude is totally gnarly dude. like he really changed my life with all the smart things he said. legend

whoa man, like dude
dude legend

0:46-0:48 Ryan dodges George Costanza walking by in background
Cool video. Back in '96, Ryan Jacklone WAS NY Skating. He seemed like such a rebel. I remember an interview he did about Chris Edwards during the X games. It was so raw, and his phraseology was kind of bizarre. Such a blast from the past. I might need to buy this.
I was trying to remember his last name, thanks...I'm a 90s bladder from the past as well. Good times before all the bullshit of today. So free as a teenager!
What year is this these times look amazing
1998
David Hoffman - filmmaker
Honestly, this soooo much. But ever since that fascist cheeto stole the presidency last year, this country has been exposed for the racist and bigoted dump it truly is. #resist #timesup
nice one bringing politics into everything keep crying snowflake
More like 98/99
Shows how much 9/11 changed the world.
@eireskate ryan is my uncle, he still lives in Manhattan and still skates a little bit, he had to stop skating cuz he had 3 knee surgeries, i started skating b/c of him and i love watching these videos of him skate cuz i was a baby when he was skating and now i get skate with him when i see him but he's still around and doin well, he's snowboarding a lot also, theres ur update on ryan. eireskate
jessejames134 Wow thank you
With that sort of skill he possessed why didn't he get into the figure skating sport? It's huge in the Olympics and with all the sponsors you'd be getting a lot of money and fame.
Lord Enki Two different worlds. Skating probably started as his passion and he turned into his career and that's why he became so good at it.
IMO Any sport your participating in you gotta do it because you love to do, not just for the money.
Lord Enki you think these skills translate into olympic figure skating? Lol oh man, get real
Lord Enki yeah lol what they said. You don't do it for the money. That's what you'll find in most sports. Most people who go pro get there cause they love what they do not because they are motivated by fake or money. Those guys who try to do it for those reasons. USUALLY don't get there. Not saying it doesn't happen but most pros do it from passion.
0:25 San Andreas car horn
Bee M lmfao
lol
That 720 at 2:08 was so sick. This guy is awesome!
Toebex Technically, the trick is a Bio 720 since the spin is at a diagonal axis.
soda Cork 7?
Hayden Benninghofen No, it's not a Cork 7. For a Cork 7, Ryan would have to lean back (like he's gonna backflip) before spinning twice and landing forward. Here he's tilting his axis to the side before spinning which sets the Bio spin.
@@zshocksoda1128 technically, it’s still a 720 whether it’s bio or regular. The OP said nothing inaccurate
Woah this guy's in your face attitude 😂
you better make his hot dog right or "FORGET ABOUT IT!"
he probably doesn't speak to his mom that way haha
quickstep "Fagetabodit" is how I read that lol
Did you see him tell that guy to slow down with his driving? 😂
he made new York his playground and his hair is proof of that
ahh I would pay money to see a update on all these guys. A really nice look at a group of individuals living their lives and going after something. I remember buying this when it came out on VHS!
Check out @jumpstreetpodcast. They have a lot of interviews of the fr guys
Aaron Feinberg just filmed a clip for USD skates
Both Ryan Jacklone & Dave Ortega were guests on Jump Street Podcast, you should check it out.
I thought this was skateboarding when I clicked it, I'm not disappointed...
I remember watching this when I was younger love my city love my people ❤✌ so much nostalgia
such a good mini doc! NYC in this era was the best...late 80's early 90's nostalgia!
Thank you.

Dan Reardon You're crazy this was 1994 at the latest.

I had San Jose, fresco, oaktown and so many spots to sessions like how these guys had Zoo York. Wish I could do it all over again. I use to blade everyday just about. Amazing being able to say I did this sport and do still today. It’s a honor to have been apart of blading. Peace
This brings back so many memories. I love Ryan Jacklone and Dave Ortega!!
I watch this video every week and it never gets old
If you find true talent with yourself and the passion to pursue it. GO FOR IT!!
Dude had movie star good looks, like a young RDJ. I had no idea he had such a big persona, if people only knew more about the world of inline I think it would of been better appreciated.
@annahappygo Thank you for your comment. I wish I knew where Ryan was. I thought him a fabulous star. I hope that he is doing well. People are saying that I should go back and tell the stories of what happened to these guys and girls. After 10 years. They had hopes and dreams. I don't know whether any of them were fulfilled.
David Hoffman - filmmaker
i love the way he describes skating i feel completely the same way
I gotta say as a skateboarder i had a couple friends who rollerbladed and some of the tricks were very impressive. I loved rollerblading as a kid always haf to zig zag down the big hills haha. I hardly see anyone rollerblading anymore anf if i do its at like the parkway taking the path. Must be tough to be tough to get hasled at a spot by security on the blades in case you gotta run away
1:12 is straight out of the The Office lmao the way the interview is set up after the hot dog part. The guy speaks just like Michael Scott lol
Holy crap he does sound like Michael Scott
I grew up skating. Ryan Jacklone was my freekin idol after I watched hoax 2. Thanks to this (you) I'm going to scoop up some skates again to feel that freedom again! Thanks to aggro inline I met breakin. Both movements changed/shaped who I am. These extreme lifestyles are everything! And to the haters, we appreciate your motivating words lol!
lol Ryan Jacklone was the tupac of skating
This edit is dope! Kudos to the filmmaker
Thank you. Editing is a core competence of mine and I appreciate you for seeing it. Harder than it looks, as you probably know.
David Hoffman-filmmaker
is this video a joke that i'm not getting?...
cutest inline skater known to man
Skating was life when I was growing up! shout to team FR and team Hyper. EVILTWIN 1
facts bro!!!
People give Ryan shit now cuz he skateboards more than he rolls. Dont matter to me. He left a huge influence in our sport. Hell, I learned to misty watching him skate on espn! Thanks for sharing this.
this needs to be the inspiration of a new supreme line
Crazy how time’s have changed. In the sense that this video isn’t a “Tim and Eric” type “Eric Andre” level skit. It’s serious as shit.
When i was a kid back in 1994-1998 i was always rollerblading i loved it i was the frist kid on my block with some 😂❤ i miss the 90s my childhood wad fabulous🙏🏽 no cellphones just striaght fun!
Skated with him.. This guys a legend.. As well as ozzy & nene..I would pick em up in the morning at there house in 64st..first stop would be martin luther king H.S. & then skate around the whole NY.. Memories.
DUBBELLAGIO Rawlinson Rivera, Dave Ortega, always liked the NYC skaters. Man I used to eat breathe and shit skating back in the day, hope it makes a comeback.
This dude is mad good at skating
skate from new york to florida in 3-4 days? .. good luck with that
poisoncurls - it’s definitely possible!!!!!
@@myboy051 good luck lmao
I used to inline, skateboard, bike, play hockey and baseball lol never got how ppl could just do one thing
Mate, if i had half the talent (and age) these dudes had it wouldn't bother me whether in-line was cool etc... skating gave me heaps to cope in the life of hard knocks. Ryan and the lads inspired me to be myself despite what others are doing.
i love this vid its is very nice
This guy was awesome back in the day
Telling cars to slow down on a road.... seems legit .
this is like an eric andre ssketch. i really like the dude tho
Lassenol yeah Brotendo
0:46, those security guard standing around all day doing shit and this is their one moment to get a bit of action lmao
Those were the good old days in NYC 20-30deep going spot to spot ...
Wow man this is spot on , I remember those days , I was like 12 back than , I'm 34 now . I had some lightnings with hypers on them floating thru traffic going from the Bronx all the way down to the Brooklyn banks . Memories ..
+TonyBlanco170 lightnings...ha it was those and k2s
The glory days. Great stuff David, I'm off to watch the full movie
This has been in my recommendations for the past month
this is how I used to skate...no rules..no nothing... just having fun...... I'd like to shout out hyper wheels... and year and a day.skate shop.... my first sponsors...... and get ready for my come back!!!
This is how it was with the crew in Boston. We would meet kids from all over the New England area.
We would have session’s all over Boston and the surrounding city’s and towns . If it was a far skate we would Jump on the train or Bus and go where ever . New kids that we met would have new spots to skate and would have the same for them .
It's crazy to think that he was that good and now he's a manager at a seafood restaurant.
This guy sounds like C from a Bronx’s tale
Desi Carey YES, I thought it was him at first.
Everything sounds like a bronx tale
This is filmed so great!
David! I landed on this video randomly in my recommended, and just realized it's one of yours halfway through the video. Excellent work as always! Keep up the great content
Remember watching this video in 8th grade
This video perfectly sums up rollerblading.
I like how the very next video is “Watch skaters fall on their balls” 🤣
The good old days when street skating was the shit and I'm miss my damn lightings.
+Draven 87 Loved the old TRS Lightnings.
I do not know how he feels although I have always wanted to Go back and film these young men and see what happened to them. Ryan was a terrific guy. It was unsure a slap in the face to him when inline just went away.
david hoffman - filmmaker
It would be interesting to see what he is doing today!
"...3-4 days to skate to Florida..." yeah the fuck right
i remember renting this video from hollywood videos, or could be blockbuster videos, i dont remember. its an awesome movie though!
I feel a comeback is coming for aggressive skating baby
"I live my life a quarter-pipe at a time."

I remember dudes misty flip that featured in the daily breed magazine,in 97 that was the craziest shit to me back in the day, 6th grade. well I study it & mastered that shit!! Them Monrovia boys though!!! Charms!!! 🍀🍀🍀
@Bloodmachine718 Thank you for your response. It is so good to hear about Ryan and José. Who is Brandon? Who are you? Thank you.

Kalmah and others: I do not believe it will ever be as popular as it was in the 90s. Dating aggressively did not involve brilliant technology -- turning your skates sideways and screeching down a pole was not present. But it helped a lot of mostly boys who were not the football player types or the skateboard mean guys to find a home and a way to meet girls etc. A great time it was.
David Hoffman
1:41 That was fucking awesome !
I remember having this much energy at one time.... Wonder where these guys are today...
theyre so cool wow
i used to watch this, nickel n dime and the hoax 3 before i went out skating
Skate 4 needs this
No
Oh the nostalgia this brings me ❤️
Guess we know what Atreyu from the movie the NeverEnding Story ended up doing with his life when he got done being an actor. This has 90s written all over it
Great work, like I said, I love the film. I've watched it like 20 times. Never gets old. TEAM FR BABY!
Anyone else have this in their sidebar of recommended videos for like a year now?
Homie spits the gospel. Roll on.
Was it the part when he was talking shit to the car driver?
There are times places and roads where one can drive fast and there are other times one shouldnt.. dont be speeding around people walking or when theres tight traffic, gotta speak up sometimes, everyones beeping their horns most the time anyway
Back when boys were boys
I would love to know as well -- but have not kept up with them. What a great movie it would make to go back now to see...
David Hoffman - filmmaker
Despite the massive decline in popularity of inline, these guys still look pretty amateur compared to today’s skaters
