Rob James-Collier is brilliant. If you watch some of his interviews especially with Allen Leech you see how totally different he is from his character of Barrow. In fact one notices that he is attractive but it gets lost in his sinister personality. But in real life he is bright, funny and warm hearted.
There is a scene with nanny and the kids in carriages. His true self just comes out - I believe- when he goes to see Sybie. His voice changes, his expression softens... I love that scene

Love, love, love the acing on this program. P.S. Rob is in costume and staying in character to some degree for this interview, something many really good actors do.

my relatives are from the Uk from my mom familly . I indentify with this show because one of my rich relatives married the chaufer I am the product of their union Linda that is what I heard .
That is clearly not a cockney accent and Matthew was a character with a middle class background in the series therefore they had to made him sound a bit from that class

just finished watching complete series. just loved it. should good and bad side of some characters,especially thomas, wasnt just women repression back there. thats why i loved it so much, sometimes servants were more snobbish then their supposed snobs, a lot of backstabbing downstairs, but what struck me was how downstairs knew what was going on up stairs, and vice versa, gossip, innuendo and drama got around. gives you idea of what might have gone on in real life. esp buckingham palace. also unsnobbish the upper family really was,treated servents well, had their problems too. i loved thomas, he was a jerk at first, but he grew up, but was so lonely, at a time when it was crime to show love for a men, i now understand why homosexual, especially established men had to marry women, had to have semblence of normal life, plus many wanted children, kinda opposite of a spinister maiden who should get married. nobody then ,i dont think set out to hurt anybody, thats just way it was, especially in legal terms. i loved carlson, lovable pompass old geezer, but devoted servant. mrs hughs, kind and patient. mrs.potmore frazzled, and all the rest. maggie smith of course was brilliant, more queenly then the queen. a great cast. mary was only character i didnt like, she in the end have a ggod heart, but was upstairs spoiled brat, while daisy downstairs brat,also loved the earl , he was touchingly wonderful. kudos to juliennne fellows creator, cast and crew in making this series. america could learn from brilliant, scripts, acting,how to make such a quality drama, they still do the odd time, but even then something missing. keep it up bbc and pbs.

As someone wrote above, I think that their mutual reserve may be due to the setting/the interviewer here - for which they may have been asked to appear in their costumes, and, by implication (or supposition on their parts,) their roles. I've seen them together in other interviews in which they were much more relaxed with each other.
