Me: Hmmmm... don't have a whole lot of experience with welding a bumper... Not sure if I can do this. *sees kid helping his dad with the welding* Me: Ok, maybe I can do this.
I recently welded a Coastal Offroad front bumper for a 5th generation for a freind. I did not tack it in place as the directions state. There was some minor trimming required on the inside part of the fenders. Basically some small cuts with an angle grinder. Other than that the bumper fit great.
Excellent documentation, Jearred. The only other advice I'd have is using a good respirator (like 3M quality) while spray painting and esp. clear coating. N99 filter for vapors and particulates is the best for this kind of work. Spray painting in an enclosed garage with no vapor ventilation going out is not good for your lungs.
Bob Kim couldn’t agree with you more!! I had the doors open and a fan going. Respirator would have been a good choice regardless! Thanks for the kind words
Where at the led fog lights from and what are they called I just built my bumper and was looking for some lights but I couldn’t find and budget friendly ones that fit
My only complaint about the job you did is that long bolt that goes through the frame, you should have cut a small Piece of tubing and tack weld it in place so that when you crank that bolt tight it can’t crush the frame rail. But at this point it’s probably not much of an issue. I would also advise when welding plates like that together make sure there is a bevel Cut in, or that the plates are only touching at the inside corners, this will leave a valley to fill with weld, so when you grid it smooth it will still have enough weld to be strong. (Jody from welding tips and tricks has some great examples of what I’m talking about if you look for outside corner joint videos) However this video is a year old and if it’s held up to abuse all this time it’s probably fine. More tips for future projects. Or for other people Looking to do a project like this.
cbchevy74 thanks for the feedback. I see you point on the tubing inside the frame rail. Makes sense. As for beveling the plates. I did for those that needed it and most of the edges lined up on the inside corners. Not to mention, I welded the outside and inside of the bumper

I am very happy 😃
Hey good job man! I have a Hobart flux core 120. Would this do the job?
Matt Compton I think it will. That’s what I used. Go slow. Weld both sides and you’ll be set! Tell the guys at Coastal I sent you !!
That project turned out very good. Was unfortunately i couldn't get one for my 1997 pajero from their sight 😔
Was everything you needed to weld on the bumper 3/16 of an inch?
Roberto Jaimes yup! All good!
Hey man, just finished up this project and I have a little pillar that sticks out on each side of the wing from behind the bumper. I noticed you have it throughout the video but after you mount your bumper, its gone. Did you grind it off or unbolt it?
Anton Osnovich I cut mine
How did you cut it? With an angle grinder? Sawzall?
