    Disclaimer: Smith training is a safety course aimed towards enhancing your awareness. You'll be asked to describe what's in front of you and what's ahead of you, signs, pedestrians, etc... you'll also be requested to remain in the center lane while leaving space between yourself and the vehicle in front to always leave yourself an out. The test is performed within a passenger shuttle van, though some companies may place you in an actual truck with a trainer. Once you complete the course, request a form stating you passed the Smith training and send it to your insurance company, I believe your insurance should see a 5-10% discount due to taking a driving safety course.

    Werner is an excellent company. You went through Allentown, which is tied with Indy as the worst terminal in the fleet. (It’s old and they’ve been talking about trying to get it rebuilt/renovated). Joliet, Atlanta, Omaha, etc are amazingly nice and have great hotels.
    Werner pays $650 a week during training, even if you’re waiting for a trainer in the hotel. That will cover your food costs.
    Also, you can do multiple CBTs at one time. Use multiple devices and you can do different ones at the same time.

    Haha I just experienced part of the Werner Enterprises last week. I was in Allentown Pennsylvania. Stood at the Ramada. Some pros and cons with Covid-19. Con no complentary breakfast, pro no roommates. I drove up with a rental car from Massachusetts. A 5 hour commute became a 10 hour commute due to the massive snow storm. I got stuck in snow twice. The Ramada wasn't plowed. Two young guys helped pull me out and bring me to the hotel. Allentown was slammed with 2 feet of snow!! I was sent home because of my medications. Werner put me on a medical leave for 30 days. My primary physician has been playing patty cake with Werners DOT physician. The simulator gave me crazy nausea. Being the trucks were yet to be plowed out. We had to improvise; we did the pre-trip and in cab on simulator. They eventually were able to get the trucks plowed out and allowed us to complete our backing, 90 degree angle, and offset test. Mike Berg and Perry were really cool instructors. If I would to go back Safety explained I would've to take a greyhound bus. HELL NA!! I will never take a greyhound bus ever again!! If I take a rental they will only reimburse the amount of the bus fair. Time will tell.

    My orientation was at the Omaha terminal. No breakfast at the hotel, the class was very disorganized and taught by an instructor who never drove, out drug tests were delayed till the next week. It was a mess. I came on as an experienced driver, and was promised a sign on bonus. Never got it and my driver leader didn’t care to help. They gave me a truck that was wrecked and the interior was trashed with pet damage, my driver leader didn’t care to help. After having driven for the orange company, Werner has been a huge disappointment.

    • @intuitivebreach8969
      @intuitivebreach8969  4 роки тому

      I'm not surprised. Word from friends that are dying to leave Werner have told me a truck driver that only has 2-3 months was made instructor at the Allentown, PA terminal (apparently he walks around pretending to be a veteran driver). The truck I was assigned smelled like an ashtray. I sprayed it down with "Keep Out" animal odor eliminator and the smell surprisingly went away after a week. I gotta get on top of my content creating and make an official Werner Review video.

I can say though, I left Werner Enterprise and have plans of joining Crete Carrier which has a pretty good reputation. I'll put it to the test and upload personal feedback to my channel in the future. What I can say is this, if you plan to work for Werner, don't concern yourself with "How much I have to pay for school", Werner has a tuition reimbursement program for individuals whom attended a truck training school. After your first month with Werner, they'll begin to pay you $250 per month towards your tuition reimbursement until your debt is paid.

      @@katieperkins04 I won't have the time to create the video. I'll share a few recommendations. Work Preperation: Travel Bag 6 days worth of work clothes, 4 Days worth of go out clothes (If you're planning to check the city out, party or check out the mall across the street from Ramada Inn if you go to Allentown PA), Bedding bring Twin Size bed covering, covers and Pillow, I highly suggest a cushion to place over the mattress in the truck when you go out for training. Conditioning be prepared to be away from home for almost 2 months, sleeping in a truck is an adjustment which will cause fatigue and stress at the start of your training until you adjust. Boundaries check people when necessary, (Example: My trainer was playing Football over the radio, I politely asked him if he had headphones, that I really dislike listening to sports, news or religious things; he respected what I said and never turned the radio on for sports), Lastly, protect your license at all times, if you don't like a situation or are concerned about safety, stop the truck and switch seats with your trainer. Your Trainer or Fleet manager has no power to fire you, don't let them bully you into doing something you're concerned about.

When you finished orientation you went on to a waiting list to get a truck and for every day they didn't have one for you you were paid 50 bucks. • @intuitivebreach8969
      @intuitivebreach8969  3 роки тому +1

      I explain the pro's and con's in a video called, "Werner Orientation Money Hacks"; I recommend reading the comment disclaimer considering recent changes based on Covid-19 policies. The answer to your question is Yes & No. The hotel has space to park, their terminal where you must go every morning doesn't have space. The only reason I would recommend a personal vehicle is if you have an Uber or Lyft account and plan to collect extra money on top of orientation money. If you take your personal vehicle (DON'T TELL ANYONE), simply save your gas receipts and claim a friend, wife or gf dropped you off and request a refund on the gas receipts (If anyone finds out you brought your personal vehicle you won't get a refund). There are complications. Not everyone comes back to the same terminal where they received orientation after training, (you may have to coordinate with your trainer before your training ends to find a way to get you back to the terminal, that's assuming you receive a cooperative trainer) otherwise you'll have to figure out a strategy for picking up your vehicle. (I'll have to make an updated version of "Money Hack" for drivers that are starting now).

    Do they help you get your permit?

    • @intuitivebreach8969
      @intuitivebreach8969  4 роки тому +6

      Personally I downloaded an app called, "DMV GENIE", studied and paid $5 Air Brakes, $5 Combinations, $10 General Knowledge at the DMV, received my golden rods and turn them in to receive a permit. I went directly to NETTTS New England Tractor Trailer Training School. When you receive help from companies to receive a permit and license, you'll likely be required to sign a contract that will feel as though you're getting a bargain, but will later realize you're stuck receiving below minimum wage for 1-2yrs depending on your contract. If you break the contract due to poor treatment and being overworked (which will likely happen), you must pay them back for every penny for them training you. I once spoke with a roomate that stated his license was paid through an unemployment agency and he doesn't have to pay them back (possibly something to look into before paying out of pocket or taking a government loan). Also, if you pay for school, WERNER has a tuition reimbursement program that will pay $250 after your first month, every month until your school tuition is paid.

    SO.....what about driving classes. Do they offer those?

    • @intuitivebreach8969
      @intuitivebreach8969  4 роки тому +2

      I highly recommend to either find out if your state would pay for your trucking license through unemployment agencies or if you are eligible for financial aid if you can't pay up front. It's a lot better to owe student loan money than to get caught up in a bind with a company contract. When you do a contract with a company, you'll get paid less, and you'll get the worst runs.

    • @LinwoodPowell
      @LinwoodPowell 4 роки тому

      @@intuitivebreach8969 I already have my CDL. I got it via Roadmaster with and got pre hired by Werner starting in a few days. My question was more about the orientation itself. Will you actually get driving practice in orientation?

    • @intuitivebreach8969
      @intuitivebreach8969  4 роки тому +3

      @@LinwoodPowell Oh, I see. The only practice driving during orientation will be the "Smith Training" otherwise you'll watch a series of videos in a question answer format. When you complete the videos, drug test, etc... you'll be kept on stand by at the hotel until you're assigned a trainer and your trainer reaches out. When you're finally in your trainers truck, that's when you'll eventually begin driving. (Werner requires you to watch your trainer drive for a certain amount of time. Some trainers may have you drive from the moment you enter their truck due to sleep deprivation; it happens almost all the time, the trainer is expected to pick up a load, drop a load and go out of their way to also pick you up, leaving them almost too tired to watch their new trainee drive. Thankfully the sleep deprivation issue only happens on their first day; they may fall asleep on the passenger seat or may retreat to their bunk bed once they feel like, "Yeah, he's driving well, I can take an hour or two of sleep; he is on the highway after all". Most trainee and veteran accidents happen in the city or in the parking lot when you're backing.

      That depends. No matter the company, if you've never done a particular task; you'll be placed with a trainer for at least 1-3 weeks. In my case with Werner, I had OTR experience during training, passed training and because it was a Family Dollar acc, I had to be trained for 1wk. For my current company, I didn't have Flatbed Experience so I was force to train for 3wks, although I had 7months of Regional Experience. If you have OTR experience and apply for an OTR position, you won't be required to have training. It depends if you have short hair or long hair. People with long head hair can easily donate, but people with short head hair... Let's just say the person cutting your hair isn't a barber and will likely rush the process. (Extra Information: The hair follicle exam goes back up to 90 days. Body weight also plays a role, because drugs will remain in the person's system for a longer period of time if the person is overweight. Overweight = takes longer for the body to remove all traces. The person in shape or skinny will process drugs out of their body the fastest.) I personally didn't want them messing up my fresh haircut. I'll admit though, I did go to Little Sal's Pizza during Orientation with a date, and the owner decided to offer us free red wine🍷 (still to this day, the best calzones I have ate across the USA).
