  • So I was faced with a quandary when I had the choice of which Rotherham parish to cover next. With only two left, my decision was this - would it have been easier to put all my effort for one day into the larger parish or would it be easier and better or me to go to the smaller one and take in a couple of other neighbouring parishes whilst I was at it? These are the kind of choices I make on a daily basis.
Well, the answer to that was the latter, because I figured at some point I am going to have to leave the boundaries of South Yorkshire, and with Rotherham borough coming to a close, this was the best option to go for to replace it with something new. I do feel as though I have left the best two in the borough until the end though, despite what I said in the Wentworth video.
This one then, features some Elizabethan history in the form of the partially ruined Hall that adorns the centre of the village - a village by the way which is keen to prevent parking anywhere due it's narrow roads and stone walls. This village has also had awards for being Britain's best kept in various categories, and it does all this while maintaining a modest existence sandwiched between a larger village and a major Nottinghamshire town.
The hidden-in-plain-sight gem of the parish though comes in the form of an airfield, right on the South Yorkshire border, providing all those aviation enthusiasts with a chance to either learn to fly a light aircraft or just watch from the on-site bar. This is place that had a role to play in WWII, although it never really had much to do as you'll discover.
So without giving too much more away, have a look at the borough of Rotherham's penultimate parish. I give you the fantastic treasure of THORPE SALVIN.

Thanks for that. I was there two days ago for a walk. There is an outside viewing area at the airport with a picnic bench. I sat there and watched the aircraft coming in and taking off. Thorpe Salvin is a lovely village.

There's another place I know with aircraft - Cotswold Airport near Tetbury in Gloucestershire. They've got both preserved large aircraft and small aircraft and it's still in use. (Spoiler - I have family down there). Got to say though nice to see this one.

Really enjoy watching your videos mate 💯 At the end of last year I decided to visit some areas of Rotherham and give opinions on some of the villages. I really enjoyed visiting Wickersley, Laughton, Dinnington and Woodsetts. They were some of my favourite areas across Rotherham
