The building on Turnshaw Road is Ulley Hall. It was built in 1718 for John and Rebekah Clark. I haven't been able to find out more about them unfortunately. Great video, really enjoy watching them all, but Ulley has a special place in my heart. I also love the Wind Turbines. Keep going Andy.
Enjoyed watching this, I never even realised Ulley was a place. I never cycled down that road where the turbines are before. And there is a working red phone box in Rawmarsh still
I'm surprised you didn't mention Ulley reservoir being in the national news back in 2007 when the dam walls nearly collapsed after all the rain, the village of whiston had to be evacuated just in case
I'm not totally sure but I think that did get a mention in a different video (these Rotherham ones were ages ago). Might have been Aston. Definitely remember reading that somewhere along the line
This is a lovely video; so nice to see an area local to me through new eyes. The abandoned buldings (one is a Grade II listed manor house I think) are intriguing. Hopefully someone who knows Ulley local history will be able to shed some light. I find the wind turbines peaceful, and hypnotic to watch - so long as no birds are harmed. I sat in my car close by one on the road up to Thurcroft (no litter - so lovely) on a day before the snow last week. Nice little meditation in the sun. Thank you again the vdeo - I shall "follow" you around the Borough, to some places I have never been. Good luck with it x
Thanks! Lovely comments - yeah the wind turbines are peaceful. I don''t know why they are seen as dangerous to some but I guess that's life haha! Cheers for the info on the Manor House, I will use that in Part 2 :D
Was interesting to watch. We used to live in Ulley up until September 2022. We now live in a village in Lincolnshire. It's South Kyme in between Heckington, North Kyme and Billinghay. An interesting story you may like about Ulley is of a ghost which wanders the lanes around the reservoir. The ghost is that of an escaped inmate from a local asylum who committed suicide by jumping off the main road bridge in the early 1900s. Do you have any plans for fiming in South Kyme or any of the surrounding villages in the near future?
