@@samurexatlas7373 car robots came out in Japan in 2000, and TJ seems to be going by earliest release, so it should be in the next one.

I own the Cryotek repaint of TM2 Megatron. He's great, and I hope the Legacy figure gets repainted into him too
He should. I mean Legacy Megatron got released with the wrong head mold. Megatron and Cryotek have different head sculpts and the Legacy version for some reason inexplicably came with Cryotek's head making him even less accurate to the cartoon than his original figure.

That mythical creature, the raccoon dog/ Tanuki, is a one of those rare cryptids that turned out to be real, well kinda. No booze etc, but they did discover a real animal resembling the mythic description and named it the Tanuki
In America we call them raccoons.

Big convoy is still my favorite beast wars figure. I have the encore anime colors version. Just wish DNA followed through with the matrix buster or the Takara mall version was more widely available.
My top ten for 1999 and there's one that I did not include which I'm sure is going to be on TJ's list. I didn't include it because I didn't like how it handled it's kibble in robot mod but I will tell he's the LAST figure I eliminated when I was narrowing down the list for my top 10. So yeah we gotta talk about Beast Wars Neo now as well at TM2.
10. Iguanus: Not the best figure but I do like that his neck frills are hinged so they can actually be posed unlike the original version where he was molded in a permanent attack position.
9. Cybershark: Will totally admit he also has some kibble issues but I like sharks.
8. Blackarachnia: Fairly good but she does have some inaccurate detail which is weird cosidering most of the Transmetal designs were far more accurate to the toys than the first season Beast Wars.
7. Prowl: The first Owl before Nightshade was a thing. And is it weird that I kind of want to see a Nightshade repainted in these colors?
6. Dinobot: Also has some inaccurate details but it's closer than Blackarachnia and I've always loved the creepy skeliton meets Borg appearance of this design.
5. Heinrad: The dude is a working alarm clock. How often do we get Transformers toys with actual working functional things built into them. Granted you can't access the button to turn off the alarm while he's in beast mode which would force you to transform him into robot mode just to turn it off but I just think it's cool that he actually has a real functional use built in and the design is pretty good as well.
4. Colada: It's pretty impressive that they got a robot out of a snake. Granted they used the cobra neck to hide most of the robot but it works.
3. Big Convoy: One of the first toys to have a removable Matrix accessory. Granted he's a shellformer and it's been demonstrated that you can basically remove all of his kibble from the robot and build the Mammoth mode without the robot even being attached that's the main reason I didn't rank him higher. But it's still a really good figure with a lot of cool play features.
2. Tigerhawk: He also has some inaccurate features that aren't in the show, mainly that hawk or falcon mask that he can wear over the tiger head. And yeah his name is Tigerfalcon in Japan because Airrazor was originally meant to be a falcon but the show in America decided she was a hawk.
1. Megatron: This figure has a known factory defect. There's a trigger on his back that controls the movement of the dragon head and it has a locking mechnaism meant to keep the head upright in the "vehicle" mode. This part was installed BACKWARDS on almost every copy of the figure making it so you could not lock the head in the correct position and it would just droop down. I didn't know that part was backwards for YEARS and then found out all I had to do to fix my ONE issue with this figure was take out one screw, flip it around, and screw it back in place. Even before I made that repair I'd still have called this the best figure of the year. He never even uses that vehicle mode in the show that I can remember and it's a freaking DRAGON Megatron, who doesn't love Dragon Megatron?
I'm surprised I seem to like the asymmetrical TM2 designs more than TJ does cause my list is mostly Hasbro with a few Takara figures and TJ's is mostly Takara with a few Hasbro figures. And you know what... I don't hate anything on TJ's list. The dead mode and odd weapon modes are a bit weird which is why I didn't include those figures but they're non intrusive gimmicks so they're still good figures that aren't really hindered by it. I almost included them on my list but I just like the TM2s more and needed to clear room for them so I got rid of all the weird gimmick figures.
The only one I really disagree with is Magmatron. Honestly I would like him if the individual beasts had their own robot modes so he was a combiner like Magnaboss and Tripredacus. I don't like that Magmatron is just one robot and not a real combiner. I actually had a chance to get that figure when he came out during Beast Machines and I just looked at him and went "where are the individual robot modes" I had the same issue with Power Core combiners cause the drones aren't characters so they technically combiners, it's just ONE guy with a super mode not a combiner team. Maybe I'm just bias judging the figure for what I think it should be rather than what it is. Not really a bad figure for what it is, just not what I was expecting, I wanted it to do more, so it's not on my list and you will not change my mind.

I'd argue that he's less of a combiner than a Duo, or in this case Trio, con.

Two owls that transform into robots
Stampy is one of the few Japan Transformers I own and he's one of my favorite Transformers overall.
I still have my tigerhawk toy and i believe i have the triceratops one. Admittedly, i have the repaints, but my only complaints when i really played with them were how loose some of the joints on tigerhawk were and that the triceratops had wasn't detachable in robot mode. I get it's a 25 year old mold at this point, but i would love to see some form of update to a lot of the ones in this video now that I'm seeing a lot of them fresh (and some for the first time).
Magmatron still holds up today. The play value, the level of engineering wizardry that went into it, and it's intuitive to transform. Just from looking at pictures of what you're supposed to end up with you can tell how it moves and how it transforms, there's no frustration, no 'how the hell could that possibly end up there?' nonsense, just straight-up play. He's extremely fun to mess with, probably one of the best mess with Transformers of all time.
I hope they bring out some more of these toys out to the west. I love to get my hands on Stampy and Heinrad.
I have a ton of love for the BW Neo Maximals. I am a bit surprised not to see TM II Dinobot on this list though.
If I learned anything today, it's that I need Stampy and Heinrad almost as much as I need G1 Jetfire and Shockwave.
I still wish the Dragon Megatron we got in Legacy had the dragster mode. Even if it wasn't a great mode in the original toy, that's still play value that we didn't get, and even the DNA Design upgrade kit doesn't include parts for it. Not to mention Tigerhawk's beast mode visor.
For those who are curious, but not as OCD as I am:
Doing these every Tuesday, TJ will reach 2023 Top 10 on December 10th. Except, I see he did a Here's 10 for 22 and 23 already. So take that back to Nov. 26th for a Here's 10 of 2021, instead of his previous format best of 2021.
What I'm hoping for is, after the Here's 10 of 2024, he takes the 41 #1s, and does the ten best #1s.
Being a self-identified penguin, my favorite this year will be Break, even if he's the epitome of a shellformer. I wish I had a Big Convoy; Takara had a task of Mammoth proportions to create it.
Big Convoy would be my number 1, but mad respect for Magmatron being chosen.

I'm wondering if Transformers: Universe is going to be counted among the lineups going forward. It is mostly a line of repaints though before it transitions to Classics and then Generations.... which is another question since once the early to mid-2000s hits, you have multiple lines like Alternators, Masterpiece, etc. in addition to whatever the mainline is of that year.

I think you're selling Transmetal 2s short, but the Beast Wars Neo line did have some gems. Some Transmetal 2s had fragile chrome and other vulnerabilities, but I think you have to ignore that when ranking them, but maybe add that as a note as I have done below in my rankings:

Beast Machines had toys other than Blackarachnia that actually didn't suck?? (To be fair, her mold had a crap color scheme. It was only her repaints later on - the Unicron tainted Universe Blackarachnia and the frosty femme Universe Crystalwidow - that were nicer uses of the mold...nice presentations of a nice toy. And it's unfortunate that they never bothered with a show accurate redo.)
