I always loved how you explained the Borg perspective on these things, it shows why they kept getting brought back, fans loved them as antagonists and they have a worldview. You can actually look at things 'like the Borg'. That makes them way more interesting, because as you said, the element of malice is absent. They're not doing any of these things we find abhorrent and dangerous because they hate you or want you to suffer, quite the opposite, assimilation is their version of foreign aid.

Man seeing the smash cut of all the shit everyone (mainly Torres) gave Seven over the years really makes a point how unpopular her being on Voyager must've been. I mean these are just the bits from the main crew, can't imagine what the rest of the crew must've been saying

According to my headcannon: the reason they don't have seatbelts is because of the inertial dampeners. When they fling out the seats it's the dampeners have to let the people fly a bit across the room or they would be pancacked by the Gs, so if they had on seat belts to dolh them down then either they would be crushed as their own seat hit them at 50mph in the back, or the would just rip their body through the seatbelts and the chunks of their corpse would splat against the far wall.

    • @Here_is_Waldo

50mph? More like 50,000mph. Even at impulse speed a starship would be moving at serious speed.

I dunno. I can see the concept that the inertial dampers* may leak but recover, with acceleration decaying to zero as they recover. But I don't know that the numbers work out: if the dampers leak 50 G for 50ms, then at the end of that time your chair has accelerated you to 25 m/s. That's a lot! And the bridge isn't 25 meters in any dimension...
      * Trek always gets this wrong. Damping is to a limit such that some motion or value gradually decays to zero. Dampening is to make something moist. It doesn't really bother me, but if I'm here to make pedantic quibbles, why not go all out?

New to your channel, I think it's pretty good! Humour mixed with a good analysis.
Seven's Borg oufit is completely ridiculous, surprised they didn't stick her in stilletoes and I did read that it was painful for Jeri Ryan to wear. I know that is later episodes, Ryan also passed out frequently on set due to the ridiculously tight silver outfit she had to wear and was unable to eat properly. I've got a feeling that the outfit was a Rick Berman idea. That, and the 5 inch heels. Nothing like a bit a misogyny, is there, Rick?
Janeway is a complete narcissistic hypocrite in this episode (well, she often is - Tuvix, anyone?), and is completely obsessed with getting the crew home. She seems to pull the Starfleet Rule Book out one minute, and then ripping it up the next, depending on whether it affected her fave crew member or not. You're absolutely spot on when you say most of his suggestions anyway. Can you imagine the Allies in WW2 giving the Nazi's nuclear weapons so you could get Victor Lazlo out of Casablanca? Actually, it's worse, because they could have gone around Borg space or settled on a planet. Just because it happens to succeed, the ends do not always justify the means.
    Stonking good episode, though!
Can I just mention that I think Kes is brilliant in this and the next few episodes, showing us that Jennifer Lien was massively underused.
"Neelix's cheese"!!!! Yes, Neelix is an annoying little shit.
Sorry, I seem to have written a very long post.

My thought is that making a deal with the Borg might of been a better argument if we watched species 8472 destroy other planets and races without any serious opposition. This gives the story the chance to have Janeway start off in agreement with the crew not to team up until it becomes such a serious threat that they might not have a choice--not just for Voyager's survival, but for the Federation if 8472 keeps advancing across the galaxy. Invoke the "Godzilla Threshold" trope that the Borg have the best chance to stop 8472 if Voyager gives them the weapon to do so.

A former borg trying to reintegrate into human(ish) society with a bunch of people that had nothing but overt prejudiced hostility for a past she had no control over was a relatively intriguing character. I actually have a theory as to why the Borg couldn't adapt to Species 8472. The Borg has assimilated thousands of species and technology so when they encounter a species or technology they've never seen before they use their knowledge of past assimilated species and technologies which are similar to them as a reference point. If that doesn't work just assimilate some of it and they'll have all the knowledge they need. But with Species 8472 they are alien as a species and technology that nothing they've assimilated can be used as a reference point for them and without the ability to assimilate them they have no means of gathering information

I like the actress but her character is a mash of kirk and picardy she never had her own personality imo so her choices didn't always make sense,.

This is the episode that lost me. Chuckles' whole Scorpion speech and Janeway tore him a new one... then the episode proves him right, and we didnt get a Janeway apology. Because Janeway is always right, no matter what. Her authority may not be challenged. Shit writing and shit characterisation. Little did I know that this would be Dostoevsky in comparison to Picard or Discovery.

Weirdly enough, I don't mind Discovery and I've seen it all. It's..... Ok. It's ok enough for me to be ok with it. It's all just...
Ok. And sometimes bad. And sometimes good.... It has some good moments. S1 and S2 I liked but wanted a longer season so they didn't have to rush things. S3 and S4 were ok in parts, lame and dumb in others.
Picard OTOH I don't have to sit through one moment of to know how badly done and off-base it is.
Lol I can just see it's a hot mess. No way. I'm not going to shit on my memories like that. I'm not that masochistic.

SFD keeps being mean to Enterprise, and I don't get it. There were no bad seasons of Enterprise. Bad episodes, sure... every show has those, but overall Enterprise is a good show. Far better than TNG which actually did have 7 bad seasons.

SFDEBRIS. SERIOUSLY, you need to start making these videos again. Hilarious. My favorite mockery of voyager. DS9 rules!
