Someone lended me a simple air filled fitness ball (a pink one hehe). Been sitting on it for a month. My lower back pain and sciatica almost completely went away with the addition of complementing it with McGill big 3 simple back and abdomen strengthening exercises. So yeah I think I will keep using the ball. It is worth it.
i'm sitting on a regular fitness ball since 2016, never feel a need to sit on anything else, i have light scoleosis and i cant sit on any chair for more than couple of hours

I've been searching the flat earth for the perfect camera for years, but I'm being sold a flat exercise ball by the greatest video photographer on UA-cam.
Never had the ballroom issue on exercise ball. I recommend better underwear. But I agree the ball becomes difficult after a few hours and, to me, that's part of the benefit because it makes me move back to standing and raise desk to standing position. I will check out the products though. Look good.

i pondered these a while ago for sitting, because you'd never be at rest... I never did buy one, but I'm glad you validated my notion. I was very fat at the time... balancing was exercise for me.

Maybe some other part in Asia ? I digress, I remember my teacher had a chair that was build for movement but wasn’t a ball, I tried googling and this is just an example but try searching up “Uncaged Ergonomics Wobble Stool” I’m pretty sure it wasn’t that brand but it looked like that one. Maybe you try such a chair.
My mom has a stool that has a rounded bottom instead of chair legs (imagine an upside down mushroom). It'll move a bit like a ball, but it's the size of a stool, and I bet the seat is comfier too.

Maybe you can tweak it by deflating or adding some weight to the bottom (sand?).
See if you can check out a Håg Capisco chair sometime - they're very good for different seating positions and highly recommended for their ergonomics. I have an Aeron Classic myself but it's much more of a tasking chair with one right way to sit compared to the Håg.
For a more relaxed chair, the Herman Miller Cosm (mid or high back) is amazing. It's a similar mesh to the Aeron but a long sheet from the seat to the back rest all in one, a bit like a more supportive hammock if you recline.

Had Aeron for few years. It was a real pain to sit on it. Because of the price I kept it for so long. Not for everyone I guess...
I had a cheap £20 yoga ball for 5 years continuously, using it around 10 hours a day when playing or editing at my computer. It’s great for telling you when you are too tired and should go to bed because you roll off it.
And when you are too drunk and should go to bed too.
However sadly, I stopped using a yoga ball when the arthritis in my hip got too much to tolerate the isometric muscle control of my hip and buttocks. Surely that should be the word of the day, buttocks?

I just bought a ‘wobble stool’ for similar reasons. Not spent any time on it yet so can’t say if it’s good or not. Fully expecting to forget there is no back and either fall off backwards or end up having to extract it from my arse at some point. Still, it can be used standing or sitting and it isn’t the size of a small planet…..

As an Aeron owner it always brings a hearty chuckle when I see the words "kneeling" and "chair" in the same sentence.
I don't mean to embarrass you, but have you considered rotating the ball 90° to where the groove is, instead of wanting the groove to be where it is not?
