The moon is moving away but it doesn't have the momentum to escape Earth's gravity. In 5 billion years, the moon's orbit will stabilize.

IT would reform into one moon again if there wasn't much push velocity, but if there was one, orbits would be extremly unstable and one eventually would hit other one making original moon's orbit more unstable and making orbit egg shaped, while rock matter would fall into earth, hit moon or orbit moon/earth
