I am an old professor from the early 50s and I saw from valvular to mobile phones. You give me Hope in Youth like you. I serviced many vcrs and I use them.
It is a surprise to me that you have a working CRT monitor. I think many people recorded(copied) their cassettes onto DVDs;because if the video cassette player breaks down,we will not repair.Anyway I like the video, especially hearing the mechanic sounds. you show us how classic video recorders/players are. Thanks.
Excellent i have been a fan of video cassette recorders since 1982 I still have my first one a Sony SL-2000 Betamax still working and to see a young person interested in this technology after so many years is really gratifying. 👍
I remember my first VCR and it was 2500 dollars in 1981 About 10,000 dollars in todays money The video rental store opened and you had to have a credit card They put a 500 dollar hold on your card The yearly fee for membership was 50 dollars, about 200 in today's money. They had 40 PG,G,and R titles, and about 300 X rated in the back half of the store behind a bead doorway and huge signs telling people no one under 18 was allowed You were allowed to rent 2 tapes maximum. Basically only the 1% owned VCRs And the adult section was sold out every night. So many families came in and the mom and children would get a Disney movie or something PG and the dad would sneak into the back. I miss those days My first VCR was GE and it had a 7 button wired remote Remote control was wired Wireless didn't come out till 1983 But you could push play, FF,RW,eject, pause, tv/VCR, and power The channels were all set using dials and wheels. All analog. You had I think 12 stations you could set
In our country, when there was still the USSR, VCRs were also very expensive. People traded their apartment or car to get a VCR in return. I wasn’t born yet, so I didn’t encounter this. Adult acquaintances told me about this, and I heard these stories from other bloggers on UA-cam.
@@NatalieRetroStuff This was also the case in the first half of the 1980s in all today's post-communist countries. In the second half of the 1980s, VCRs became a bit cheaper, but they were still expensive, costing several salaries. In 1986, half a million private video recorders were in operation in communist Poland. The cheapest ones cost $200, the E 180 cassette cost about $10 and the average wage was $20. In Germany alone, 30% of households had a VCR at that time and average models cost DM 2000, i.e. an average salary.
"Nice find Natalie" ! That's usually the problem when VCR'S haven't been used 30 some years. Probably wouldn't hurt to replace the belts and check the grease along the tape guides. Great video Natalie !! "Take Care Dear" !!
Great video recorder in great condition. It's nice to watch it unpack. I love the smell of the machines and cassettes and discs. I just bought cassettes and DVDs. Go to flea markets every weekend looking for it. Love your videos. Greetings
Ohhh how ai loved VCP/VCR's of 80's and 80's and even first half of 90's. Ahh, what a devices, their features, their mechanism, their cassettes and their smell and their user manuals...

Step back in time! :O Great Unit, Unboxing and Test (+ ASMR)! ;) I still have a combined VHS/DVD Samsung in my Video/Audio Rig and a Toshiba Betamax in the cellar! :D Natalie fixed it too so is a Femme Tech as well! :o I wonder if it was from the shrift shop too and what it cost $? :/ Well done Nat. Subscribed & Liked! ...... 🙂👍👏
Rewind problem can most likely be solved by cleaning the mode switch. Although the lighting in your room for filming might be causing the problem. Try it again with the cover on.
Awesome you really have good knowledge about this cool retro-tech! For me the inside looks like a bunch of cables motors and rotating metal things. Any you even got it running! The last time when I saw such a cassette player was in 2006 when the PlayStation 3 was released, I switched my full movie collection to high quality BluRay and to be honest I have thrown all VHS-tapes away, even the legendary Alien VHS box (for quality reasons, the magnetic tapes failed and lost quality rapidly after a few times of watching). Now I wish I had kept at least the Alien VHS box for nostalgic reasons ;)
Im amazed the heads and audio are still good! Most of the times something is off but it plays like its 3 years old. static is a shame but works fine try and clean the cable in/out puts maybe even better image
very nice. I have a 1982 GE VHS VCR that was barely used - it still has the plastic protective film over the VHS door and front clock display. I'd love to peel it off but, then there is nothing protecting it from being scratched.
There are light sensors that detect tape end. If you have the cover open light from your lamps might hit the sensors if the light comes from certain directions and the player won't work properly. Better screw the cover back on!
A very first _(more elaborate)_ unboxing video on your channel! And *over 10 minutes long!* Awesome showcase of unboxing, troubleshooting the VCP and playing tapes on it while also rewinding/pausing/forwarding and showing the slight issues it has; kinda showcased a more faulty reality for 1980s/1990s folks xd. Great video, as always!!! 🎉
I still have my twenty year old VCR. It's one of the last ones made, so it's direct drive (no rubber belts). It's about half the size as your VCR. The front is about the same width as yours, but the width from front to back is about half.

To find one still new In the box, Is amazing. I would get a full service on It, before You put a tape Into It, This can cause all sorts of damage. New Belts, clean mode switch, re-grease everything. I still have My 6 Head Super VHS player. I do this every 5 Years, and changed the heads for new once In that time. Still going strong. Some VHS films are still not on DVD, and some never will be. Even though I have digitized the most of them Especially the Pre-Certs, Total Uncuts. Enjoy your experience over the next few years. Thanks for sharing Natalie.
I also bought a Sharp VHS device. For worldwide usage. But it did not work in first step and I have to find out what the problem is. Maybe you want that I send it to you doctor? I liked to buy it because the actions are mechanically very attractive compared to new devices of virtual desasters. The old device which I bought is not broken. It works but the video did not appear.
