I really need to frequent UA-cam a lot more. I've been trying to tell people about this movie for the longest. I liked it even more when the end came about.( don't want to spoil it for anyone)
I have only watched this movie in full one time, but I enjoyed it...the ending has a big surprize! I always thought that "The Telephone" as a sleeper that did not get it just viewing. I have been hard passed to find anyone else that saw it. I would recommend it.
If you know just a little bit about acting, you gotta love this movie... shes just doing her thing for like 1 1/2 hour.. one long monolog..more or less.. "Ling-ling-ling" Whoopi Rules!!!!
This movie was so hated when it can out. To say it received bad reviews would be kind. I have yet to understand why it was so disliked. Only that most solo performance movies seems to always are rated this way. Something about self indulgence crap. I have always LOVED this movie and it took some time to realize what this movies was actually about. The outstanding talent on that screen CANNOT be denied. SPOILERS-there are no neighbors either.
I love this film, but its kind of make me sad when I find out that she was talking to herself for the whole time...I guess that means Whoopi's performance is excellent.
I FELL HEAD OVER HEELS IN LOVE WITH THIS MOVIE AND IT TOOK ME THREE TIMES TO FIGURE OUT THEIR WAS NO ONE ON THE LINE WITH HER???? LMAO! I'M CERTIFIED LMAO
What a great fun this film is! It is a real challenge to perform on your own for the whole film, Whoopi makes a great display of versatility by performing different accents. Congratulations, Claudio Jofré

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, where did you find this???? I NEEEEEED THIS MOVIE!!! Do you think I could download it from somewhere??? I would DEFINITELY BUY THIS, but it's impossible to find. It's been out of catalogue for ages. I'm agonizing!!!
someone HAS TO throw out there a torrent of this movie... i guess it's a legitimate move, since it's SO DAMN HARD to find. i'm from brazil and there just isn't a comercial release of this movie on dvd.
I have this film; however, I only have it on VHS...I cannot find it ANYWHERE on DVD. I remember the first time I watched this in college and I laughed until I nearly pissed myself. Many years later I was watching this (true story) again when I was all hopped up on meth and I laughed until I about pissed myself again. It's just THAT funny to me...here at House Of Yap...leh leh lannnnng...
So I'm guessing this was a grand Victorian mansion at one point, and those pocket doors were nailed shut with boards and what was likely a grand living room or parlor behind those doors were converted into another apartment. Also while Goldberg's acting is funny, the premise of the movie is disturbing (the phone being disconnected but her not knowing it) because this sort of thing happens in real life. The human mind can be very terrifying
Why is she always on the telephone does she ever leave the house i saw it here in aus for 2 dollars didnt want to get it cause thought it might corropt it.
it would have worked better if she pulled in a boy on his paper round who missed her house in the morning and came back in the evening and she just took him in and freaked him out.
as funny as this whole scene was i don't understand it what was goin on when she was on the phone what was happenin? i meen first i thought she was gettin chinese food then she was some sort of call girl??
I had this years ago on vhs. One of my absolute favorites. Thanks for posting this - brought back some great memories.
Same here! Forgot how much I love this film

Her stereotypical Asian impression where she goes lang! lang! lang! is just hysterical!
I watched this movie on UA-cam one summer 10 years ago and i never thought she wasn't talking to anyone on the phone until the end
I love this film, but its kind of make me sad when I find out that she was talking to herself for the whole time...I guess that means Whoopi's performance is excellent.

Her acting is a masterpiece in this film. I do not understand why the film has 4.5/10 on imdb!
It seems like it would have worked well as a play or a short film but doesnt gel as a feature!
"What's a matter with you? I'm just entertainin' friends..." Whoopi is a fool. HaHa

@yippy010 She called the supermarket to place a delivery order, then was transfered to the deli dept.
for those who have never seen this movie ...go rent it..it is totally not what you think it is.....it is about a woman that is insane...
Can somebody upload the scene where she farts on Elliot Gould?
Hilarious!
No wonder Whoopi Goldberg never wanted this movie released. Because it depicts her character as a lunatic.

Rose Lee she was talking to herself. The phone was disconnected all along.
This is worse than horrible. No wonder Rip Torn was apoplectic about her.
Haha, yeah... This was probably the worse movie.... Ever...
*geeeez*
*every representative body in the USA would have protested the blatant 'racism' in this film*
*LANG-LANG-LAAAAANG*
