For years, I’d see the thumbnail for this vid and skip over it. Now that I’ve given it a try, I might’ve revisited this video maybe 40+ times by the time of this comment. Words cannot express the emotions I get watching this nostalgia. From the ultra complex verses from God’s Son to the various NY occurrences captured beautifully in just the 5 minutes this MV runs. That white SC400 is cherry on top too. Just from examining this video time over time again, makes me feel like I’ve experienced this era first hand( Born in ‘98, ya’ll ahaaa) I can go on and on, but as much as I wish to have been apart of this time, I’m just thankful we can revisit this and capture/recapture the vibes it exhibits. Peace y’all ✨
Now u kno it’s all love bro🙌🏾
exactly man. exactly my thoughts
I knew Nas was Crippin! 😂♿️💙
1:38 hits hard right now
Jesus that second verse shoulda been in the original. "The mic is my religion and the system is the devils lasso". Woah.
This has been my favorite song since it came out but I never really thought about that line. That's kind of a shame but that line is deep.
Hey I don't rlly know much about religion can someone explain the line?
@@ryankieley5924 A lasso is the rope what Cowboys use to throw and hook around the cows necks.

This guy is an unbelievable MC. Nas’s writing is the antithesis of Rhythm And Poetry (RAP). I can detect the Rakim influence, but he’s got a style all his own, untouchable.
Agreed he's an unbelievable MC and untouchable. But the word, antithesis? Are you saying Nas' writing is the opposite of Rhythm And Poetry (RAP)? My view is Nas is one of the main *epitomies* of Rhythm and Poetry (RAP) at its purest. Same with Rakim.
Check out the modern remix of this song ua-cam.com/video/FafX4pLOmPE/v-deo.html
@@tillgogum8288 i think the commenter worded it badly
Music is like art different people comprehend art differently I think each individual should have a different view point on (ART)/(RAP)
Nas was doing his version of Kool G Rap, not Rakim; and he DOES come dangerously close at times to completely biting his style, which is why Russell Simmons rejected him when they shopped his demo at Def Jam. The star of this song is Q-Tip, though: incredible run with Midnight Marauders, his Nas songs, The Mobb Deep album (both the credited and uncredited engineering and producing work; just listen to the drums, especially the snares, on that album if you have any doubt about how involved Tip was), and Crooklyn Dodgers-one of the dopest producers/unique ears of all time. To this day, no one knows what that Crooklyn Dodgers sample is.
Back when the 90's era of NYC was the Rotten Apple and full of gun violence and crime like Chi-raq and Nas was the Donald Goines of the whole essence. This is one of those albums whereas even if you weren't from NYC you knew what it smelled like, what it felt like, and what it was like. There are a lot of classic albums to come out of the rap genre but few were able to encapsulate an area like what Nas was able to do with Queensbridge. Southernplayalisticcadillacfunkymusic felt like Atlanta, Common's Ressurection felt like the Southside of Chicago and Illmatic was the sound of Queens, NY.
U hit that whole synopsis on the nose my G. Peace
I agree with everything you said,
just want to add Mobb deep's debut album hit just has hard and also encapsulated 90's NY in a similar way (and they're also from Queensbridge..QB had some heat in that era✊🏾)
Also Biggie's Ready To Die was the drug-dealing side of Brooklyn, Warren G's Regulate G-Funk Era had the relaxing sound of Cali, Redman's Dare Iz a Darkside had the gritty side of Newark, NJ, Scarface's The Diary told the scary side of Houston, Texas and Bone Thugs' Creeping on ah Come Up had the haunted soul of Cleveland, Ohio
All fax
Curious.. what album would you say best represented the San Francisco Bay Area in the 90’s? I’m thinking either RBL Posse “Lesson to be learned” or Too $hort “Get in where you fit in”
Nas still with the same QB dudes till this day
Legend
