Oversimplified’s comedy has become so unique over the years. It’s jarring to look back on the ww1 video and see how different the style was.

I'm extremely impressed how he put this together considering ancient history is such a weird crap shoot.
There’s actually a lot more trustable information on the First Punic War than there is on the second or the third because of the writings of Polybius, a Greek historian lived in Rome the 2nd Century BC. Only the ones on the first fully survived.
@@Weeby_historian what about roman themselves?
@@namastehindustan9879 roman historians often embelish their own history or have changes for their political interests.
@@namastehindustan9879 the chartiginian' too will also change the history suiting their own agenda, thus why a third party like a greek historian is much more credible than romans or chartiginians at this time.
I wouldn't call the Punic Wars ancient history.
48:43 Look babe! Drew Durnil notices that he is on TV!
Small fun fact: Messana is now called Messina and the only bridge ever built between Sicily and Italy was a boat bridge built by the Romans.

Idk what else to say lol
and it was also a Greek city state
And I think it was also an important city during WW2 as it helped Allied forces land in mainland Italy! (Although I don't know for sure, so correct me if I'm wrong.)
As a Messinese I can confirm, the bridge between us and the rest of Italy is another whole story lmao

The "double siege" (as Drew calls it) was peculiarly Roman thing: Agrigentum (262) and the siege of Alesia (52 BC) versus Vercingetorix's Gauls, with Julius Caesar commanding the Romans. It probably has to do with the Roman propensity for civil and military engineering. Their instinct was, when in doubt, build walls, moats, aqueducts, sewers, roads, heated floors, lead pipes ... If you're besieging a town, wall it in. If a relief force arrives to break your siege, build another wall, but facing outwards. Romans being Romans.
I mean, when your entire army is basically just an overmilitarized construction company, you do what you do best
Titus and dominion did it against the jees
@@goldenhate6649 Yes, that´s exactly what it is... i just say: They even went so far that every legion had it´s own brickoven that they took with them. I think this came into existence only after they turned to become an empire, but still: The US Navy has their Seabees but the romans had their whole army to construct the infrastructure. That´s just next level.

1:10 Actually it isn't just Turkey, it's the entire origin of the Ashina tribe, the ruling dynasty of the First Turkic Khaganate (aka the Göktürks).
The story goes like this
"One day a she-wolf saved a young boy from his burning village. She cared for the boy and nurtured him back to health. Then the boy impregnated the she-wolf, had half-wolf half-human children and one of them was a god for some reason and he started the Ashina tribe"
More than Turkey, the Stans
So... Technically... The boy f'cked his new stepmother... And then.......
Furry moment
@@karaqakkzl Well not all the stans. Kyrgyzstan's origin story is a little bit different. It starts with 40 girls emerging out of a lake or something like that. Also it is important to remark that every single Turkic tribe has a different origin myth even if they are very small this is just the origin of the Ashina tribe.
Not really but I see the joke you were trying to make
Fun fact: The Roman’s feared Neptune (Poseidon) and many of them refused to get on a boat after the first punic war.

There was no Persian Empire anymore. This was after the death of Alexander. So you had for example Macedonia and Ptolemaic Egypt which looked at this conflict with great interest.
Macedonia was insignificant at that days plus has own business. Egypt probably yes but have same business - Alexander legacy. They eyes are more on Macedonia, Phrygia and Seleucid. Probably they have war with last at this time.

Girl if you think I'm gonna watch a 50' minute video of you reacting to an ancient war... you're absolutely right.
15:20 Mount Vesuvius is in the bay of Naples. The volcano on Sicily is Mount Etna. So no they won’t talk about Vesuvius
14:21 "You can do that?" Check out the Battle of Alesia where Caesar intentionally built a wall around a fort to keep the Gauls from escaping, then a second wall behind him to keep their reinforcements from helping them. Absolute madlad.
31:54 In "Miles gloriosus", a Roman comedy play by Titus Maccius Plautus, this "miles", or soldier, boasts having killed an elephant with a single punch to get married to some specific woman
The scene just reminded me of that
I really appreciate that you react to both parts in one video. Other reactors do them separately, and that's fine, but only if they watch both videos immediately. I hate when they're like "That was part 1, I'll react to part 2 tomorrow" or even worse, "That was part 1, let me know if you want me to react to part 2 as well."
14:25 "You can double siege a siege?"
Julius Caesar at Alesia : "Yes"
This is the first reaction video that actually feels like a real reaction video. Good job, thanks for this.
I couldn't have lived without this reaction video, it was so helpful! 😀👍

From what I’ve heard, the Bagradas Dragon was actually a giant snake that the Romans hunted to extinction. Livy was born in 59 BC, about 200 years after the First Punic War so his account of the history probably isn’t the most reliable

To be fair, by this point in history Sparta was a shadow of what it used to be, and it wouldn't be long after this that Rome would invade and literally turn it into a tourist attraction.

1:10 the Turkic khaghanate, yes. This was a different empire that was the origin of the Turkic peoples. Kinda strange that lands so far apart had similar backstoriw
Um, Drew, during the Punic wars Rome was not an empire.
It was a Republic.
Until Augustus Caesar, who became Rome's first Emperor, 2 Consuls (among other public officials) would be elected each year for 1 year term.
At the beginning of the video, you said Roman Empire.
Carthage is Rome's name for the city. The locals called it:
Qart Hadasht, New City,
founded by the Queen Dido, whose heart was broken by Aenas, a prince of Troy, who fled that city's destruction to found the city of Alba Longa which eventually would become part of Rome and where the Ceasar family began.
Caesar means luxuriant hair.
Corvus is Latin for Crow, since the big hook looked like a crow's beak.

Panormus is now called Palermo.
The video oversimplified included was the first scene from drews reaction to the Pig War
