I agree with Adam the distortion will be R.F. getting into system. You could try ferrites on all leads and cables. I have experienced this and the ferrites cured the issue 😊
Hi Kevan, the distortion was probably RF feedback working it's way back into the system being so close to the radiating element, could try a common mode choke at the antenna end and maybe shortened power leads wrapped around a ferrite ring and a ferrite ring on the mic lead, I've had the same issue myself before.
I thought afterwards it could be RF causing the issue. The power lead and coax are as short as they can be although it may help if I run the coax to my left and the DC power to my right to avoid coupling with then intertwined. Will add some ferrites and see if it cures it.
well done, it can be tough but you are by the sea which will be a great help. Conditions have not been the best recently and it has been very short skip. Hope to get you in the log sometime when I am out mobile. 73
Trying the G90 Pedestrian Mobile has been in my head for a while, just need to resist the temptation to turn the power up to 20w in case it pickles my brain 😵💫
Cheers Neil. It felt quite stable even though it was quite windy, the battery at the bottom of the backpack acts as a bit of a counterweight but I’ve found when I use a 16ft fibreglass pole it does catch the wind a bit more than the hamstick.
I only ran 10w very briefly which is the absolute maximum I would use for a very short time, for this sort of thing I would try to use 5w or less as it’s part of the challenge😊

I agree Steve, I will add ferrites and see if it eliminates the issue. Watch this space 👍

Great stuff !
Thanks!

That's dedication for ya 👏 heard you today mobile talking to states,I couldn't get through:( look forward to your next adventure 👍
Cheers Andy, yes I drove up the road and worked a few stations in the USA on 20w but didn’t bother filming it. 👍

Thanks Duncan. I’ve just checked out your channel so see you are already a fan of operating by the water like me, it’s like magic.
Nice one Kevan - when I saw your last video I wondered whether a G90 could be substituted for the FT817

That's a good result. Does the antenna feel stable while you're walking about or does it lash about? 17m is an awesome QRP band! 73 de G0TVJ

What do you connect your ground wire to? I am wanting to try something like this.
Hi Matthew, I just have one single trailing counterpoise wire around 16ft long connected to the ground braid of the coax…
Does 20 watts warm the back of your neck?.

Would you have a link for the antenna bracket, haven’t been able to find something similar with a 3/8 thread, always enjoy your videos, GW1DRZ
Thanks Darryl, here you go👍
