I really hate to break it to you but the sidewinders that they claim have been installed only to prove that they can install them by the manufacturer. It is never going to be a part of their mission nor are they ever going to carry them in combat. It is very likely most of the flight crew for this aircraft will never actually see a Sidewinder because fix Wing Fighters carry Sidewinders because they're the ones who do the air-to-air more than 100 MI away, not helicopters. I flew Cobras for almost 10 in the army air-to-air combat was never a part of our training nor was it ever hinted at. I loved cobras I hate it to retire from them but the Apache is more survivable than this Zulu model. As beautiful as it looks, it cannot take a punch like an Apache can. It's great in every other way though. Also, they said something about it flying up to 19,685 ft. That might be possible for the helicopter but for the flight crew they would die of oxygen lost. We are not allowed to Fly Above 14,000 feet for any reason. Again, nice bird but this presentation has got a couple of good size holes in it.
@MintTree117 of course they do, with fighters, not with a helicopter. There is a never been a time since World War II that enemy Fighters have appeared in the skies while soldiers and Marines are on the ground. They're stopped by these things that are called Fighters, not helicopters. To do so would be idiotic.
@@mrgrinch837 Their helicopters have to be prepared to encounter hostile helicopters, drones, and yes even some fast movers such as su-25 or prop-planes. That's why they carry 2 sidewinders.

The aircraft may be able to mechanically do that but without oxygen to the flight Crews they will suffocate and die. I flew Army Cobras for 10 years, our limit was 14,000 ft. We do not go above that, ever. Also the Longbow radar is not actually a radar, a longbow is an AH-64 apache with a millimeter wave radar system installed on it. It's the entire aircraft, not the radar system which the Marine Cobras does not carry. I don't know how anybody could slip up on that one. As well, there are pictures of sidewinders on cobras as well as apaches. This was done by the manufacturers to prove to the military that yeah you can put a Sidewinder on the aircraft but in real life there's not a chance in hell that any army or Marine helicopter Pilots are ever going to see an enemy aircraft because we have an awacs aircraft which controls all of those Fighters that will go around and blow all of those enemy Fighters and helicopters out of the sky long before they see an Allied soldier. Adding Sidewinders to these machines will simply add weight to them. There is no point in that, the air crew members have probably never seen a sidewinder in their life. Air-to-air missions are not a part of a attack helicopter operations. The Air Force and Navy does that stuff not us. Other than that, a fine film worthy of an academy award.
Cobras in Hawaii were SNEAKY BASTARDS. Headed out to West Loch, no cobras.....suddenly there were two cobras, then NO cobras again. Made a mock, thank the Lord, run on my ship. Impressive.
I spent three years in the attack Battalion and one year in the cavalry squadron at Wheeler field. I flew cobras in all that time. It was the most fun a man can have with his pants on. Love doing the West Lock transition flying past the Arizona memorial. Wish we could hover there and take a picture but air traffic controllers frown on that stuff.
I’d be mighty, MIGHTY upset to discover that those cable cutters were really just there for false security and didn’t work because they are so small. 😂
You know the primary mission of attack helicopters is to attack ground targets, and not to engage in air-to-air combat, right? Come back when you know what you're talking about, eh?
It has a 30 mm gun that is mounted to the starboard side of the helicopter. What this means is that the pilot has to take the time to get his Target in front of him to aim it by steering the helicopter. In Apache has a helmet site system that allows you to control the gun by the Motions of your head. In other words, you look at the Target you pull the trigger the bullets are going down range. It is extremely fast and very accurate. It's the look of death. On a further note, during combat situations we have airborne warning and control aircraft (AWACS). This means our helicopters have no air to air mission. It is useless to put Sidewinders on a cobra or an apache. The manufacturers get that only to show that it could be done. But we have these things called Fighters along with the awacs aircraft, their job is to shoot down enemy Fighters hundreds of miles from the combat zone so why on Earth would you want to put Sidewinders on a helicopter there is zero chance that any of the air crew members will ever see an enemy fighter or helicopter. Why would you install them on the aircraft which will likely just take up more weight? Perhaps to light a cigarette?
Ain’t a Ka-52 which has melted more modern table than any other helicopter on the planet despite their losses due to nato man pads and anti air systems.
AH-1Z Viper is an all new Variant of the Legendary Cobra and is considered the most advanced attack helicopter, the viper is a completely different Helicopter to the old vietnam cobra.

The new vipers have the longbow variant installed on the blades..instead of the tower mount like the apache.
