I was talking to an old professional windsurfer and he was telling me although foils do go extremely fast a windsurfing board actually on the surface still goes faster than a foil because of the area actually making contact with water and the size of the wing and its drag etc.

Depends on the conditions. That is true in high wind, absolute high end speed, but not true in all other conditions.

Windsurfing can be faster but windsurfing is slow as shit when the wind is 15 kts where wing foilers are up on foil easy
