- Florida State and Georgia Tech are tied at 16, but the 9th-ranked Seminoles are looking to end it with a 56-yard field goal. The moment that comes next captures what makes college football so incredible.
A made field goal would give Florida State 29-straight wins against ACC opponents, a mark that would tie their own record set in the 90s. It would keep their quest for a third straight unbeaten regular season alive. And it would be one more cruel twist of the knife lodged in Georgia Tech this year. The Yellow Jackets are left praying for a miracle and not a second straight week losing by a last-second 56-yard field goal. While they’ve fallen far from their 11-win season a year ago, they haven’t backed down tonight, and if they can derail Florida State’s playoff chances, they’d be doing so in front of their home crowd on homecoming weekend. It comes down to one last snap. Welcome to a moment in history.

Fun fact: After the 2013 Iron Bowl kick six, Aguayo said that if he were ever in a missed field goal return situation, he'd make the tackle on the return man because he practices tackling drills "all the time."

This was the first college football game I ever watched. I just happened to show up at a bar before the rest of my friends, and sat near a Tech fan (who was the only other one in the bar) who nicely explained the difference between college and pro football, then proceeded to lose his mind after this play. Bought a round of shots for us and we’re still friends to this day.
Where was the bar? I have a similar story to this but I was the Tech fan haha

As was I. I'll never forget that night. That stadium was as loud and crazy as I had ever seen it. Had to have been 35-40,000 of us there, all yelling and screaming for a victory. The only time in my life my heart skipped a beat was when Austin went into the endzone. I remember everyone around us was celebrating and hugging. The old guy who had been grumpy all season walking around with a finger in the air screaming, "6 AND 1! 6 AND 1!" I could go to every Georgia Tech game for the rest of my natural life and never see something like that again.

Love these rewind videos. IMO this is the craziest/best ending to a football game ever. The fact that it was an insane upset, CFB’s best kicker, and actually players making plays (instead of a massive coaching mistake like another famous kick 6 that happened in recent history) makes it so special.
Honestly as a lifelong college football fan, growing up in the south…tech always being a butt end of the joke…..this is straight chills.

i remember this so vividly I am a Miami fan and we lost 59-0 to clemson earlier in the day but for some reason i chose to watch this at my friends house who is a FSU fan and watching them lose and realize there season was crumbling down was amazing

As a Cane, I would be the biggest liar if I told you I didn’t enjoy every second of that watching it live. I remember just bursting into laughter as he ran it back for the TD. What a time to be alive!
Great rewind! As a GT fan, i would also add that we were dealing with a ton of injuries that year. As a cfb fan, i would also say that Aguayo deserves a little more credit for keeping them in games, especially from 2014 on.
I have learned to appreciate Aguayo more after the way Ryan Fitzgerald is playing this year

The Oregon game in 2014 and Louisville game in 2016 were signs of things to come.. the Alabama game in 2017 is what broke FSU and it hasn’t been fixed since

I was there, and this game is a core memory for my love of college football. The 2-5 GT team had nothing to lose in a season where they had zero luck and tons of injuries. But they played like it was a playoff game, and it just shows what's so special about college football.
Was at this game as a Noles fan; was at the recent one in Dublin as well. Tech just has the best last-second luck and can-do attitude against FSU. Well done yall, maybe we'll beat you next year.

That wouldn't really work. The whole point of this series is that the whole video builds towards one single intense MOMENT in history that had huge impacts on the season/tournament. Not a whole game, or a player statistic. Examples are like a game winning goal, final second buzzer beater, last second sprint. Yk what I mean?
That game was a big game sure, but doesn't fit this particular series. A documentary would be a better fit.

I'm an auburn fan and I watched this live with my friend who is a GT fan. Before the kick I said " wouldn't it be crazy if they ran it back like auburn did a few years ago?". When they did I lost my mind
I was watching all the games that weren’t this one (I didn’t know this was being played) and when I tuned into this game; this was the only play I saw. Being from Atlanta, I really jumped up for this play.

The only 2 points I don’t think y’all covered was that the Austin twins crossed the goal line together and Richard A. actually made fun of the Alabama kicker after the iron bowl kick 6 saying that he could make a tackle on a return man (he is seen in this clip doing the helicopter and missing the tackle)

I had memories as a kid of Florida State during the glory days of the 90’s-00’s with Chris Weinke and Peter Warrick, and how it seemed Florida couldn’t beat them.
For all his accomplishments, Bobby Bowden underachieved more than any college football coach ever, his two Championships were basically the law of averages.

Cmon sbnation you guys have to do 2017 World Series game 5, it was such a good game and started by 2 Cy Young winners, who got hammered by the amazing offenses. Then the double comebacks by the Astros and then the 9th inning comeback by the Dodgers. It also would decide who would win the World Series, because LA had 2 games at home so if they won, they would win. Houston had JV for game 6 so the implications of game 5 would be huge.
That was the game that truly exposed Clayton Kershaw for the fraud that he was, for all his greatness, he kept vanishing in the Playoffs.

It was the loss that broke FSU. If you look at it, from that game on they weren't the same team. Now they are a dumster fire, and it can all be traced to that night.
The CMU @ OK State 2016 is a pretty wild finish that's pretty underrated.
This was also a week after the Michigan-Michigan State muffed punt return for a touchdown. That was a crazy 7 days.
