Today I’m potting up the Clematis seedlings for the sowing I made in January. I’m also planting up the last of the summer patio containers with Begonias, Calibrachoas and Salvias.

Great video on planting up your clematis seedlings and beautiful patio pots, they are the bees knees. I lifted up all my pots two weeks and found lots of slugs hiding underneath them which were dealt with. The flowerbeds have sixteen slug traps placed around plants that slugs like and it is keeping them under control.

Love the sound of Alla's seeds I must try those!! I definitely know the feeling with slugs and snails! I found 4 earlier today hiding under the rimmed edge of one of my Dahlia pots! They are experts at hiding! I had some beautiful Zinnia seedlings that were doing so well! I managed to save one from the slugs that got into my little greenhouse . So I've started again hopefully the next batch survive! I bought some beautiful plants at Gardner's world live last weekend, so slug watch is a must 😂 🐌. Your gardens looking beautiful and that's so useful about planting salvias near roses to help avoid black spot. I have a few coming, so I'll make sure I plant some near the roses! 🌹
Hi Louise, please do try Alla's seeds. She grows all the plants in her garden and processes the seeds herself - by candle light at the moment! I'm so happy with my little babies that I'm tempted to order more seeds already! 🤣 It's addictive 😁
This update brings me so much joy! I just received Alla’s seeds as well. This will be my first year starting a garden, flower farm, etc. So much to do and learn, I am loving it and all the people I get to connect with.

Hi Annette, what a nice selection of Clematis. I heard that they can take up to 18 months to germinate, so you've done well to get this far, and the display you eventually will get will be lovely. You might find they respond to grow lights for 16 hours a day. With all this grim weather and the lack of sun a bit of help might be needed. I grow a few vegetables as well as flowers, and the slugs and snails ate over 90% of all the beans I planted out after they germinated. It has been relentless this year. It can take a lot of patience to bring on young plants that take a long time to get started. I've always been impressed with the varied range of flowers Clematis have. I sowed Cowslips 2 years ago and got nothing, or so I thought. I reused the compost for a plant that I potted on, and would you believe it that they germinated this early spring, and I got about 15 seedlings. So, you might just find some Clematis popping up at some point somewhere strange. Thanks for sharing you potting up the other plants too. x
Hi Jimmy, yes, they can take a while apparently - this is my first try at germinating them so I'm delighted to have the numbers that I do! 😁🥳
Maybe the rain pushed the seed over in the tray and they collected near the edge of the cell? The little seedlings look so cute! You have the patience of a saint, I go out most evenings to hunt slugs and snails too. Then I take them to the field, opposite my house, and release them. I make sure they go over 60 yards away as apparently they have a 'homing' sense under that distance, and I don't want them back! I was really precious over my dahlias - so worried the new shoots would be attcked by the slugs but I hve been very lucky and they have all survived 🙂I have also potted up my new salvias. They are already in flower or just starting to flower. Have also potted up cosmos, nicotiana and zinnias. Hoping for a colourful display. Love you patio and the pots- looks fantastic. Hi Be, yes, it may have been the rain and I'm definitely going to hang on to them a few weeks just to see whether they look like clematis when they're bigger - I feel like if they were weeds, that they would be growing much faster so I'm optimistic! My Zinnias are still languishing - something on the list for this week...😁
@@cottoverdi so much to do, at this time of year, Annette, but we'll get there. My courgettes, squash and beans, and some tomatoes are also languishing, poor things. Definitely a job for this week! Happy gardening 🙂

Hi Annette, I have clematis Roguchi and love it❤. I just moved it to a pot as part of garden bed changes. I love the bell shape. Did you grow your begonias from seed? I bought small tubers of them and then break of gangly branches and pot up. I over winter some of them. We don't have grit so I use pea gravel as I have a million squirrels that think they design my garden beds 😅

No, these begonias are from local garden centres - I haven't ever tried growing from seed but maybe next year... 😊
What is the gorgeous lilac and white plant around 1.46 please? It has flowers like a Verbascum. I really like it. Well done on getting some of the Clematis to germinate. I remember you sowing them.
Hi Wendy, I think you're talking about the Schizanthus Angel Wings Mix. The flowers look quite a lot like orchids and I grew them from seed and they've been flowering for weeks and I'm so so impressed with this plant. Will definitely be growing again. I sowed them on 8th Feb and they had all germinated by 11th Feb so very satisfying to grow too! The mix has purple, white, pink and mauve flowers. If I'm referring to the right plant, then they are also the very first image in the video? Otherwise, it's just the white lobelia (not quite so interesting 🤣). xx

Annette, I have tried twice to get some delphinium seeds to start. I cold stratified some seeds and others I didn't. Both pots were put under grow lights. One sprouted sprouted from the inside group. I left some outside and one sprouted. Do you have any suggestions. Delphiniums are rather pricy here in the USA. I live in Southwest Washington State, they grow well here if I could just get some seeds to start.
Hi Sally, If delphinium are similar to Larkspur then you are right to cold stratify them. I would try sowing again in the autumn and just leave them to do their thing outside. The fluctuating temperatures and winter light levels are what will help with germination. It's also possible that your seed, if old, has lost some of its 'potency'! 😊
