Take-away? Convince your customers that it's easier and cheaper to go with a roof-mounted solar array. It will make it easier for YOU to make a sale, and if the customer has a massive issue to deal with 10, 20, 30 years later, when the roof and/or the solar array needs to be replaced, well that's THEIR PROBLEM, not yours! Sounds like a saleman's solution, for sure.

120mph? Here in Florida, that's a stiff breeze. I would really like to see what an array would have to look like/designed like, to handle our 170+ mph winds, including our tornadoes down here in Florida. What company are you aware of who designs such hurricane resistant array structures? As my next home will by a monolithic dome complex, solar cannot be attached to the roof, necessitating a ground array. Eager to hear your thoughts on how to solve this challenge. Appreciate what you guys do in educating us with your podcasts.

Great question. I too wondered how places like mid west and Florida with hurricanes handle roof mounted panels.

Could do that for you, if you like. And for business purposes, let me state that I am NOT offering directly to do Engineering or Electrical Contractor services for you in Florida. My base licenses are now in Texas, but I used to live in South Florida, and still have family who are still Electrical Contractors, there. Mkay -- that part out of the way. Yes, have looked at and studied some designs after Puerto Rico. We had Engineers from our group go there, study, report, and create options and designs to survive such a hit. My current favorite -- goes back to School Daze Tornado Drills -- Duck and Cover -- when there are high winds (or hail -- this being Texas), the array drops flat and reflectors / covers drop over the panels. Storm passes, and it resets to normal operation. You also have the consideration for Flooding and Storm Surge, which this does NOT address.

Hi Solar Surge, I have a new topic for you to discuss on your next UA-cam video. I have been using the Solaredge system for about 6 months now. I have a 10kw SE Energy hub inverter with 2 SE energy bank batteries. We just had our first grid power outage. I am disappointed that the backup interface (BUI) takes about 5 seconds to auto-transfer when the grid gown down. It's enough time for all my clocks and electronics to reset. I had to add uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) just to cover the time lag on my computers and other sensitive equipment. If I add a battery to the AC side, like a Tesla Power wall, I believe it since its on the AC side. When I talk to friends of have Tesla setups they don't have this problem. Can I add it to a SE exclusive setup? Why is no one talking about this ?

Thanks so much for this. I'd much prefer to put it on the roof, and my azimuth is 171(!!) so really really good, BUT... we have an array of tall, beautiful trees in our backyard and just outside the yard that put a LOT of shade on the roof. Whereas a ground mount in the side yard (but closer to front of house) would get direct sun all day. And we're in Rhode Island so there's the ease of snow-clearing to consider too. But, of course, the northeast corner of house in basement is where the box is, so probably 60-75 ft of trench and wire run. Any thoughts, other than cut down the trees? Is there a type of panel that functions well in shade?
