Thanks for all the detailed info. Sounds like they were very thorough checking her blood for overall health, heart rhythm check (EKG) and X-rays for any tumors, masses or abnormalities. And of course her teeth which are always a problem for Genki. Very nice to hear she is getting such good care and all went well and she was safely reunited with her family afterward. Thanks to the institution lending Kyoto the x-ray machine for the spot check images and all the vets and Kyoto zoo care staff for their care of Genki. Genki Mama looks good to boot. Her coat is fluffy and not dull and her eyes look bright and her weight looks good as well. Thanks Kyoto for caring for Genki Mama! Very interesting info, thank you! It's a relief to learn that Genki mama is healthy and the main problems and pain with the teeth are gone. It's marvellous how fast veterinary medicine is advancing! I'm sure they'll find a solution for the ape's dental problems within a few years. A few months ago, here in Hungary, a revolutionary stem cell therapy was used for the zoo 46-year-old female gorilla to treat her arthritis, and she seems to be recovering just fine!

Thank you for the update. It sounds like Genki had the same dental treatment that was done for my old lady, a beagle, on both canines. It has helped her after doing it twice in 18 months. Genki's caregivers are so resourceful! I can imagine all the anxiety from the anesthesia. That worries me too when it is necessary for my dogs. I lost my first puppy as a child that way & it was so traumatic. However, that was decades ago & it is so much safer today thankfully. I'm loving the updates! Thank you!!

It was also good to read the comments of this video and find only 1 or 2 that were sarcastic or distasteful about Kyoto Zoo. I find that this information helped to allay the fears that viewers in the past have expressed that the zoo does not care about the gorillas because of this or that. I believe the Momotaro Family is beloved by their keepers and other zoo personnel.

I am very surprised that Genki teeth were not checked by a veterinarian dentist since it was so obvious from the way she chews,using only her front teeth ,that there was major deterioration of her back molars. plus the Zoo vets were treating her with antibiotics for a swollen cheek all last summer. Genki must have been in a lot of pain trying to chew leaves.
Glad she had health exam, glad she is in good health,I was worried since she is old now.Im glad her teeth were worked on and that she is ok, but I think all of the family should have regular dental exams, more often,we don't know how long she has been in pain.
Why don’t the vets construct permanent teeth implants for Genki? With the enormous strides made in dental medicine, large primates could satisfactorily have teeth implanted. This would eliminate Genki’s rotting tooth problem, the pain and an anxiousness she suffers.
Gosh it wasn't rocket science for the reason for Genki's face swelling. I said on a video month's ago it was her teeth and she needs a operation. I take it they did a root canal rather than removing it, they are a waste of time and very painful.
I would think treating the infected teeth of gorillas is similar to that of humans-dentists always want the infection cleared up before doing any major work. It took a frightening while this time, yes, but the zoo was finally successful. BTW, I have several teeth that are good and solid years after root canals. If Genki had a root canal, I missed it in the subtitles. I’m just thrilled everything has turned out well for dearest Genki. And we can thank all the zoo staff and vets for that.

I am very surprised that Genki teeth were not checked by a veterinarian dentist since it was so obvious from the way she chews,using only her front teeth ,that there was major deterioration of her back molars. plus the Zoo vets were treating her with antibiotics for a swollen cheek all last summer. Genki must have been in a lot of pain trying to chew leaves.

Glad she had health exam, glad she is in good health,I was worried since she is old now.Im glad her teeth were worked on and that she is ok, but I think all of the family should have regular dental exams, more often,we don't know how long she has been in pain.

Why don’t the vets construct permanent teeth implants for Genki? With the enormous strides made in dental medicine, large primates could satisfactorily have teeth implanted. This would eliminate Genki’s rotting tooth problem, the pain and an anxiousness she suffers.

Gosh it wasn't rocket science for the reason for Genki's face swelling. I said on a video month's ago it was her teeth and she needs a operation. I take it they did a root canal rather than removing it, they are a waste of time and very painful.
I would think treating the infected teeth of gorillas is similar to that of humans-dentists always want the infection cleared up before doing any major work. It took a frightening while this time, yes, but the zoo was finally successful. BTW, I have several teeth that are good and solid years after root canals. If Genki had a root canal, I missed it in the subtitles. I’m just thrilled everything has turned out well for dearest Genki. And we can thank all the zoo staff and vets for that.
