This is really cool. I've never seen this. It's too bad that without a really big marketing team, there is no way for people to believe or take our word for anything without it taking years. But videos like these really help. We appreciate it.
i think I'm sold. I've never heard of you guys until today, Grew up in Charleston and love that there's a SC drum company. Price point is awesome. Good work!
I have a set of these and I agree they’re awesome! I notice the shorter sustain on my kit too, and I think it’s is due in large part to the slightly rounded off 45 degree bearing edges that Barton uses. Since there’s more contact on the head from the bearing edge, this dampens it slightly. I dig the sound of this for my purposes! Great video, cool to see someone who had another great experience with these drums!
I have Sonor ascent parts at home (floor and snare). They are beech as well and they behave the same as you described. Nice sustain but no gel or tape necessary to control the decay.
Depends on your definition of "dry," but I'd say no. There's a difference between short sustain and a dry sound. I really don't think any drum has a natural dry sound; we can dampen the sound with muffling and different heads. If you're looking for that sound, maybe check out a Pearl drum set. I've always found their drums to sound a bit boxy.

I personally hate my beech kit. I cannot tune these things to save my life.
