I found this channel because I wanted to do performance engine work to my 2001 ram 1500! I live how in depth your videos are, how it seems like the “Everyman” can do this kind of work, and how cool you guys are! Huge fan!!
Thanks man! And yes anyone can do this stuff you just have to try!
Danm whitey is a beast that's my dream setup for my truck twin turbo 5.2 🔥🔥
Do it man! Make it a reality
This is one job that might actually be EASIER on a van! Doghouse access baby!
I found this channel because I’m trying to help my good friend change out these problematic sensors on his 5.2L v8 Durango too. I really enjoyed watching this video. Nice work on the turbos!
Thanks man!
Found you by youtube search ""2001 Ram 5.9 L 4X4 cam sensor replacement". Thanks for a great video.
I’d love to see the build in person! I have a second gen Ram 1500 of my own and I’d wanna bring it down and have the two second gens chillin with each ither
That would be awesome
I have a 2001 Ram 1500 with the 5.9 that inherited from my dad. I have a lot of plans for it and one of them includes Turbos. I’ve been following the build ever since you put the turbos on white. I’ve learned a lot already.
That’s awesome man! Def turbo it
Easy as pie!! 😂
More like harder than jaw breaker pie if the damn engine is IN the truck!!! 🔥🔥
I was looking for how to change camshaft on dodge truck Thanks you help a lot and you explained some of my symptoms to let me know that’s my problem
I got a 97 Dodge ram 5.9 Magnum that I just changed the crank position sensor and then it through the code that it needed the cam position sensor so while looking up that I came across your channel, you guys got an awesome truck keep up the good work 👍☮️🇺🇲
Thank you!
You guys are good!! I love that you had a pulled engine to demonstrate on. Most helpful of any video out there.
Ya I have a collection of 5.9 and 5.2 magnums lol
As always, brilliant vid. Lol! Not as cold here in PA. Keep vids rolling.
Thanks man! It’s getting warmer here now
Bro! Amazing explanation! I appreciate you!💞
Found the channel bc i needed info on why my own 98 ram wouldnt stay running lmao! Sick ass setup guys, i hopeto get there some day. Keep rockin 🤘
Thanks man!
I see your lifted ram in the background I like it, I just saw your video in my suggestions so I watched it
Yes man! My plow truck and that’s awesome glad your apart of the RAMFAM
Just found you guys. I found it by trying to figure out why my 97 is barely running after doing the intake rebuild with the aluminum plate from Huges performance. The turbos are awesome. You can come do mine in Kentucky. It's 75° today.
Found you on fb in a second gen page
Good Facebook group!
I found your you tube channel when I was searching for "how to cam swap a 5.2 magnum " and saw your build and I just had to subscribe cool videos.
Thanks man! Did you end up doing a cam swap?
Not yet am saving up to buy a new engine with a little bit less mileage
Ahhh I got 203,000 miles and it looks mint in there
I searched for 1996 Dodge ram 1500 crank sensor replacing
Thanks for showing the job done on the engine out of the truck

Ya man!
Found this channel looking for 5.9 Magnum upgrades. First video I seen was how much to cam a 5.2 Magnum, I watched it and decided I needed to boost my truck soon. It's all y'alls fault. I'll be broke for a lot longer now.
Lol your welcome 😂
Found you on Instagram. Then searched you on you tube.
Sweet!
So I'm at the dyno shop with my 99 dodge durango 5.2L twin gt35 turbo build and my tuner watched this with me. He says its good you changed out your crank and cam sensor but its unnecessary. He heard your truck and said to check your 2bar map. If it hits 8 to 9lb of boost then wants to choke its because your map is not registering correctly. Had the same issue in mine just now. Friendly heads up.
Thanks man!
I watch your channel sweet Durango buddy!
@@jadoncreamer7033 thank you buddy.
Thanks for the video. I finally got my 01 dodge ram started 😀
That’s awesome!
Dig the twin turbos👍
Those who have 97 and up, Dakota with the AC the best way is to go underneath the passenger fender well to get to that crank sensor but unplug it from the top first.
How I found this channel?! I found this channel cause I looked up turbo Dodge Ram and you popped up so I clicked and I’ve been a fan/support ever since
That’s awesome do you remember what was the first video?
@@RacingRamFam 800hp or bust. Installing twin turbos
Oh the first one 👀 good to know! Did you get the stickers yet?
So after just picking up a 95 1500 with the 360 I just started looking and found your page and have just keep waiting keep it up wish I could do half the stuff you all have but California does not like gas truck or people to go fast in the trucks LOL
Ya Cali doesn’t seem to be the place to be
Great video you guys rock
Nice job brother. I started with the srt-10 pulls video.
Thanks man! Glad to have you apart of the RAMFAM 😎
Found you from the Cam and crank sensor video. I have a 92 ramcharger with a fuel delivery issue. I was thinking it might be the ASR but it starts on starter fluid.
I found your channel by looking up how to do a part on UA-cam
Dude I’ve taken the crank position sensor out of my truck at least ten times I’d say I have it down pretty good! Doing wires on these trucks are fun!
Oh yes! Not to bad tho
@@RacingRamFam enough to threaten to sell it once or twice 😂 I always bluff
Keeping them from arcing is another challenge as well.
Lol dude you made that look so easy to take that crankshaft sensor out. I did it today because I had already had the intake manifold off and it was much easier to get to it was a total pain in the ass.
Its amazing what two Minnesota Polar Bears can do to a Dodge Pick up truck, Great Vid Great Info
Polar bears lol 😂
Thanks for sharing. Well done
I'm putting together a 74 dodge dart. Has the 5.2 magnum fuel injection + 5 speed manual swap. Motor came out of a 98 dodge dakota. Was searching for hp gains. That's when I seen your videos. Been a fan since!
Honestly I'm thinking about saving up for the procharger though.
Ya procharger or torque storm! Thanks man glad your enjoying the channel
@@RacingRamFam o man I didn't even know about the torquestorm. Almost half the price. Good looking out on that one!
@@markpollard500 yes only problem is with the torque storm is it doesn’t come with a intercooler setup. But I mean $300 of intercooler and piping will fix that
OMG this is awesome I hope it works
I found your channel back when tall guy walked in on your blown up turbo srt10 on the dyno, and then I just randomly drove next to you on the freeway right after you put the wheel spacers on Betzy. Seems like so long ago now.
Yes throw back!
It was a suggested video, I threw on a single turbo and searched to set if any others have tried it on the 5.2 , and nothing showed up, it was a couple years ago tho, but love the setup, I have a 1998 ram 1500 Laramie but extended cab with the half doors, had 320,000 miles. Ive since pulled her out and cam swapped, lifters, springs, push rods, yada yada, all new gaskets, I just need to get the hp tuners suite so I can tune it all in, I have a 3 bar to install but useless without calibration. I have the wideband and high flow injectors. And yes I'm tired of the infamous plenum pan. I want the m1 intake. Hard to find ALOT of intakes with mpfi. That and another turbo is on the list.
Hell ya man!
@@RacingRamFam there's a pic of my whitie lol
Helpful thanks
My 5.9 started up I went to the store 2blocks away got back in the truck and went to start it and it kinda backfired under its breath tried to start it again and it just would krank no fire thought maybe I jumped time did before in a different 5.9 same way but at least that one didn't leave me stranded now I kno where the dam sensor is should b easy peasy Japanesey lol thanks guys
thank you!
Try changing the crank censor in a second gen Dakota/Durango they're fun too!
I believe that!
So I’m trying to fix my 01 1500 ram 5.9 magnum and I type in what best cam is their for a 5.9 magnum and your video pop up so I started to see you guys and subscribe to you guys just to see more about rams since not really a lot of people don’t work on them thanks to you guys I’ll have more info.
Awesome angel thank you!
way to go!!!
Found the truck on Instagram and I had to see if it was real 😂
I’m just trying to see if I can put a pro or supercharger on my 5.9 love the videos
Yes do it! Procharger looks great
Love 5.9 magnum
Awesome engines
Thanks !!!
Thank you for the video. Is good but the camera constantly moves so fast and waving the parts in front of it doesn't help.
I just bought a 99 dodge with 5.2 magnum v8 only 34000 miles for 1500 dollars it sat 17 years if any body
It's actually easier to do the crank sensor if you take the passenger side tire and fender plastic off. Much easier than doing it from over the top.
Isn’t the metal inner fender in the way?
Would either one of those cause the motor to run alittle rough if they start to go bad? I've got the 97 dodge.
I got the same truck as whitie and got a couple questions about it
Found you because I own a 95 1500 5.9L on a 6inch lift and I was youtubeing random stuff about that year of truck

That’s awesome man! Have you driven the truck yet?
I found your channel trying to figure out what is making the fuel pump is getting hot and quit pumping fuel. You let it set and cool down the fuel works and starts back up. Is it possible sensor bad and getting hot. We did change fuel pump and relay… it’s a 1999 dodge ram 1500… 5.2 liter
where can I buy the camshaft position sensor thats under the distributor? I cannot find it anywhere online and am seeing a totally different sensor
I love your truck . The twin turbo. I have a 96 1500 v8magnum 5.2 and I've been trying to get mine to start. No start cranks fine. Changed cap and rotor. Next I'm gnna do what yall changed is the crank and cam sensor. . Hope it works. As it there stock 96 parts. But I sure would like to have some stickers and a shirt. How much are they. IL represent for yall up here in upstate ny.also I found this channel for help on replacing my crank cam sensor. I also want to add more performance parts to my 96 1500 v8magnum 5.2 extended cab 2x4.
$20 you can email KeepItboosted@racingramfam.com
Also seen a lot of broken timing chains
Please help!!!! I have a 2000 dodge ram 2500 5.9L gas. I changed the crank sensor. Slightly snugged the bolts tight. Now i have a slight ticking or arcing noice. I loosened the bolts and the noice went away for a short time now the noise is back. The bolts on the original one were loose. But probably should of not bought it from Advance Auto
Do you have a link for where you got those both those parts
Just changed the CKP sensor on my 95 jeep ZJ with a non MOPAR one and now it’ll start but idles like shit and hesitates like crazy. Was running fine before till the engine shut off while driving. After that it would crank but not fire till the new CKP. Gonna change it for a MOPAR one now cause changing the TPS, IAC, and MAP sensors didn’t help.
Sucks cause it’s so hard to get to on these jeeps it was an all day job lol
Did changing the cps help?
I'm trying to get a ram 5.9 gas engine to start have fire and gas pressure is good but still not starting got any ideas I already replaced cap button, crank shaft sensor, coil and coil pickup in the distributor
I mean I’d hook up a scan tool and check codes and data. But like mine I burnt out the pcm
Been a long time fan of the channel. Got alot of great tips on the 2nd gen lol. But I found this video specifically for the cam and crank sensors because I seem to have power loss to them I have changed both out with distributor cap and router as well as coil pack still can't figure it out but it runs just fine I just keep deleting the code for this issue lol
If timing chains to stretched it will set a cam/crank correlation code
We changed the chain and sprocket gears when we did the sensors and coil. During that time the harmonic balancer broke apart so we changed all that and made sure everything was lined up TDC. Could the broken balancer have bent or caused this problem? Much appreciate the response and input. At this point I'm running in circles with forums and UA-cam haha.
@@bodiwankanobi8658 did you align the cam sensor with correct scan tool
Didn't use a scan tool for that we just have a simple centech obd2.
Is there specific scan tool to use for this process

Hi this alan I got 1998 dodge ram plow truck for my driveway but can't get it started again thought if working with more power would get work done easier
Hm like won’t crank,
@RacingRamFam crank but no start and no spark so trying distributor cap but screws rusted
Great video, where did you get the distributor pickup sensor?
Napa
@@RacingRamFam thanks
What camera do you use
Great vid. My 99 Rt won't start has power to coil none coming out. Change coil and cps. Gonna do cam sensor now. Am I missing something?
Have you read the codes yet? I just killed my pcm last weekend and it was no spark
@@RacingRamFam
Thanks. Just did cam position sensor. That was it. Unfortunately it was the last thing I did. But it's good now.
Awesome!
When you try to buy a camshaft position sensor at O’Reillys or AutoZone for your 2000 Dodge Ram it’s not on their computer system. You need to ask for a Pickup distributor assembly.
wow! so easy with the engine out.... try that with the engine installed
I did it in like 5 min with the engine in your must have not watched the full video….
How did you get your spectre air hat to stay down ?
1/4-20 threaded rod bent in the shape of a S
To anyone doing this it’s much easier to get it from underneath I do have a stick truck so autos may have to get it from the top
I found this looking for A how to video on replacing the cam Sensor . I have a question who sells them?
Napa, a bunch of places
Is there a link that you can share with us on where you buy your parts? I'm trying to find the cam sensor and I'm having a hard time finding it on Napa or an autozone or anywhere. Thanks, thanks.
Boom Amazon for the win! amzn.to/3QE9GBs
Thanks for the help I'm trying to keep a 97 1500 sport on the road.
Where can I get a cam shaft positioning sensor for a 2001 magnum 5.9 4sd auto ?
Anywhere lol
I have to do the cam and crank sensor in my 5.9 do you have to "relearn" them after replacing them? Or is it only necessary if they act up after install?
Nope unless you move the distributor
Thanks brother
How do you relearn them?
I found this video cause I asked google if the crank sensor had only two wires and they sent me here. While I have you.You seem to know a lot about dodge engines i have a 1998 dodge ram 1500 5.2 and have a crank no start the od light is flashing and ads, fuel and ac relay is clicking.I can bypass fuel relay and prime it and the pump started and the truck will run for as long as the gas I primed it with will allow.I can't get a code reading cause it reads link error. Is there any way you can point me in the right direction.I also bypassed the ads a d no start
How do you get the crankshaft position sensor plug apart?!
Squeeze the tab down, if there really stuck a spray if wd-40 works awesome
I need to do that to my truck also
I had a shop replace the crankshaft position sensor and it started and my truck ran fine for a week and then it died on me one day and I was able to restart it but then the next day it died and didn't restart it would crank but no start. My ex fire chief said it could be the ceramic ignition block that's on the fire wall and I told the shop that and they said my truck doesn't have that I was wondering if that's true or where it is exactly on the fire wall?
You don’t have a ignition box. You have a pcm that has a coil driver in it which controls the coil pack. But the pcm also controls all emission controls and transmission.
Could be a lot of things for it to just shut off
Hey bud got a link to a decent air intake box? Or silencer box? What ever it’s called. Lolz
Hate the stock one. Had done a tune up after a good 5+yrs of sitting. Pulled the air box off changed filter and now even with a new gasket it sounds like it’s pulling air. Tried some fish tank rubber tube for my home made kinda gasket. Just not working. Plastics old need something new. Ppl on the jungle website complain about all those intakes…
I got a trick flow on my 99 plow truck and it’s been great the last 5 years.
any problem you know of advance timing a little by filing slots in Crank Position Sensor mounting holes?
Never heard of that. But factory timing curve succks that’s why I got my sct tuner
@@RacingRamFam yes I suspect the factory curve is way too retarded, trying to think of an inexpensive way to advance it a little
@@arthurdolle5257 can’t really with out a tuner. Cause if you move the opening in the cam positions sensor it’s going to freak and throw a correlation code between cam and crank
@@RacingRamFam that's what I was looking for, a reason why It wouldn't work, still wonder ifone could squeeze a few degrees advance before the computer got upset, I bet the camshaft position sensor is not nearly as precise as the crankshaft position sensor or Mopar wouldn't use a crankshaft sensor. Really like what you're doing with whitey and the way you mounted the turbos.
I mean for $400 you can get a good tune. Can’t beat that plus the torque reduction kills so much power
I'm trying to complete tune up and I can't get the screws out they won't turn. Any ideas how to get them out
Ya I had to actually remove my entire distributor out of my truck when that happened and brake the cap then vise grip out the screws
Yeah I was thinking about that too and trying to avoid that. Thanks

Yes… you have to resync the distributor

She doesn’t run crappy at the moment put plugs and wires on it … she is smoothish but stumbles/cut-out … the code is a intermittent signal loss from either crank or cam sensor
