- Welcome to Part 1 Walking The Nickey Line,
With railway Enthusiast Andy Ward
Who kindly offered to meet me in Hemel following the COVID guidelines to do
an 8 mile guided exercise to Harpenden.
It was absolutely fascinating. Loved it. Thanks Andy.
As an added bonus he brought along his book signed by the author and which we have been given kind permission by the Publisher Richard Stenlake to show in our video.
It’s brilliant, and in print, so why not get a copy as my video work does not do it justice.

I use to go to Roundwood school that was next to the Nicky Line. We often played on it even when the trains ran on it. My mum used to say to me what are you up to today. Oh I’m playing on the Nicky Line. Well be careful and make sure you’re back by 5.00 for tea. I was nine. Happy memories
I'm from st albans and this isn't to far from me . I'm guessing you know about the alban way in st albans? If not check it out 👍 thanks for the video , I will get over soon when the weather warms up ❄️
I remember walking that path one Christmas with my friends when i was about 13 ..... 60 now! 😊👍
wait you would have walked it in 1977 but it closed in 1979?
HI the old hemilte factory that made breeze blocks that you talked about was demolished in the mid 1980's and is now called hunters oak (small housing estate).

On opposite side of mayflower avenue is the embankment which went behind the flats. This is where the Midland Road Station was situated. The building shown is the Midland Hotel.

Thanks trustywhu really appreciate your clarification. Thank you 👍 I’m always learning. That link is brilliant too. Thank you for sharing it with us all. 😊
I really enjoyed this walk. Very informative. I’d never heard of the Nickey Line before. Loved the bridges still being intact. More vids of walks please.
Thanks Edna for your lovely comments. I had not heard of it either until recently. I very glad Andy invited me to come on a walk along it whilst socially distancing. It was great. More vids coming soon 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 stay tuned 🤗
Are you going to film more?
Hi AtlasAnthems. We are indeed. Andy had written all his material. He is currently enjoying a holiday. But I have cornered him for availability. And we are very close to not only filming but also his putting some final voice overs to the cine film we released. That one is taking ages to get right 🤯 please stick with us.
