I am an example of how the EV dream is not feasible. All they’re doing is picking the low hanging fruit of the EVangilist tree, so much needs to be done to be comparable to ice vehicles
How sad that you have come to the end of your EV journey. I've really enjoyed your channel and all the hard work you have done for the wheelchair bound community. Hopefully you might focus on your adventures with your new camper. Thanks once again for your inspiring uploads.
Thank you. My channel was always about my challenges and my adventures, of which transition to an EV was one. I’m disappointed and hope I can come back to and EV when the public infrastructure is accessible. In the meantime we will continue to enjoy life as much as possible, thanks so much for watching and your supply
I am saddened for you Roger. Its a pain that so much is against you. You can't say you haven't tried for change. The work you have done to highlight the issues to motability and charging companies, and filmed for this channel has to be applauded. I hope that due to all you have done, that EV driving will become much easier for all. It's absolutely ridiculous to need so many charging apps. my Mini Cooper SE is due in the first week of September and I have already downloaded 7 apps plus ZapMap. All the best- Gena
Interesting video, glad you can demonstrate how it is for limited mobility and no private parking, you're a pioneer. Solving this is an interesting problem as the rapid charge cables have to be heavy and thick to safely carry the current. Are normal fuel pumps easy enough for those with limited mobility to access and use? I wonder if we might end up with attended charging areas in some places anyway to manage large numbers of users & chargers and to fault find / fix.
Hi, I'm really sorry you're finding it so very difficult. I think you know that it would make a world of difference to have a 7kW charger at home, but as you say, that's not something you're able to do. I've found your EV videos really interesting and helpful, even as an able-bodied person. Best regards.
Thanks for you kind and sensible comment. I’m gutted I can’t charge an EV on my own. The problem isn’t the cars. I note 3 people unsubscribed in the first 15 views, one thing I found is the lack of open mindedness among EV drivers,
I’m sure this was not an easy choice for you - hope your situation can change soon and you can return to electric motoring with confidence. The infrastructure for everyone needs to improve, but especially for disabled drivers.
Roger you are one of the only people who I agree with when you say an ev is not for you in your particular circumstances. You've given a very balanced view in this video and not succumbed to the FUD that others spread when they have failed to make ev ownership work for them purely because they haven't understood how to use them or have bought the wrong ev for their situation. The dealers are at fault for not informing people of how best to use them but there's no excuse for people not to do their research with so many excellent UA-cam channels out there just eager to put you on the right path. I thank you for all the work you've done to try to highlight the appalling situation we're in at the moment with wheelchair users and people with reduced strength being carelessly discriminated against by the charger providers. The calmness and patience you've shown has been amazing, which has meant that your now obvious distress about things has come as a bit of a shock but just goes to prove you are human after all! I'm very lucky in that I live five minutes from a rapid charger and as yet do not have to use a wheelchair. However I do have reduced strength in my limbs and on some days find it very difficult and painful to manoeuvre the cable out of its nearly head height holster, into the port on the car and out again. If I were in a wheelchair there would be no way to reach it at all. I would never unsubscribe but much as I once was a petrol head I'm not really now so I can't promise to watch all your non EV content but I will drop in as often as I can to see what you're up to and to try to continue to support you in that small way with a thumbs up and a comment. Just a thought and I don't mean to pry but: surely you must get Motability, could you not try a car with greater range for practicalities sake or are you absolutely stuck on the Mini brand for it's aesthetics and general loveliness? Good luck with however you proceed and I'm sure I'll see you in your next video.👍☺️
I thought this was going to be about the Mini being rubbish, but was saddened to see that the car wasn't the problem really, but the infrastructure to be able to use the car easily. I am one of those who is likely to go electric with my next car, I have off-road parking, and only do limited miles every year, not many long runs at all, so am the ideal candidate, but I can't help but be worried that I am going to end up getting stuck, either waiting in a long queue for a slow charger, of failing to find a working charger. I can't imagine just how much worse that would be for someone who has disabilities to contend with on top of everything else. I have done some research, and had noticed that chargers seem to be placed in hard to access areas of car parks, and even wondered about kerbs and access for those, even able-bodied, but maybe not in their prime, I need to open my door fully to get in and out of my car, as an example. It is about time there were standards set, but we know that government are going to leave it to "market forces" to sort out the charging network, so things are never really going to be fit for use. Well done you for at least giving it your best shot. I hope that one day, things will be built to accommodate all road users, but sadly, I don't think we will see that in our lifetimes.
Thanks for your support, the car is great fun and easy to drive great quality and surprisingly roomy. But charging it is a pain, if it’s a second car and you charge at home fine, but taking it on a long trip requires and lot of planning a lot more time and patience. I found using my wife’s petrol Mini so much less stressful….
Totally agree Once again the uk government not implying to laws for the EV charging people Why on earth no suitable charging for the disabled driver? Totally unacceptable and ridiculous EV bars are not the way forward As a disabled driver I can understand what you are saying It’s a fair point but the uk government needs to get a grip Phil 👍 I drive a diesel and will never change to EV cars They our not the way forward No matter what others say or try to tell us
I used the Granny charger for a month as I have time and don"t do many miles. I now have a 7kw charger and realise , this is the only way. Currently on Octopus Go chargjng 4hrs a night @9.5p per kwh.
Unfortunately, I had to live the experience to fully understand. Home charging is essential with this car and we can’t do that and the public network just isn’t accessible.
Sadly many disabled people live in properties without access to off street parking, so they will be totally dependent on the largely inaccessible public infrastructure. This is why many disabled people have yet to transition to EVs. Also this is why it’s vital that all infrastructure is fully accessible to every and exceeds BSI PAS 1899:2022; sadly most CPO’s are just blatantly ignoring equality :(
I recommend that disabled drivers do not transition to an EV until the services are fully accessible, keep your ICE, even if you have home charging you my need to use the public charge network at some point. I’ve told Motability they need to flag any transition and have a trigger warning, supported by video information and the support of a trained expert to consider the lease holder’s circumstances and evaluate the situation.
That’s tough. I have a mini Cooper Se and a Tesla model Y. Most if not all of those issues are solved with the Tesla. However I would never recommend anyone to buy an ev that cannot charge at home.
I don’t have private driveway and the area where you could technically put the charger is too small the cable will have to go 10 m across public footballs. The post i.e. a Trojan would be in front of a parking space which is a public parking space not dedicated, on top of that it’s £120 a month and a three-year contract.
JEEZ, Roger - that sucks, dude... Yes, I guess if you swapped the Mini for an EV with a longer range, like you said, you'd have less need to access public charge points - but, still, that shouldn't have to be the compromise... ALL charge points should be designed as accessible to all, be that able bodied or otherwise and the fact that they're not and, worse still, continue to be designed that way is just plain wrong in this day-and-age... It's a sad state of affairs, fella - for sure... 😔
Yes it’s a big disappointment I continue to see new hubs being launched weekly that are not to BSI spec. I’ll continue to fight the cause, but I can’t afford to have a car that’s not suitable for my circumstances. I’ll continue with another car soon, and maybe in the future long range EVs are more affordable and public chargers are better, for access. Onwards!
So true that accessibility is shocking for disabled drivers, slightly disingenuous comment about AC reducing the range, ice cars also suffer reduced range too. Good luck on your journey.
Why disabled people "moan" so much about ... I can't do it.... It's obvious fact and no one's fault. I don't get free money, can't afford a car...and can't get it for free either...
@@iantrott9152 bet you feel the same about immigrants.. coming here and getting everything for free...how poor they are.. in need of homes, cars, luxury holidays
Such a shame it’s not worked out for you Roger, I know you’ve tried so hard :(
We’ll have to keep battling the CPO’s :(

My case is amplified due to disability the access is the real villain here. Give me your Tesla for Christmas I’ll be a friend for life
I’m just very curious as to why you can’t have a home charger, either on the wall of the house or on a post on your parking spot?

Thanks for your comments. I’m not anti EV but I can’t deny I’m less stressed when I’m using our ICE, due to my personal circumstances
Didn’t Europe ban ICE cars by 2035?
No they haven’t only manufacture of ice cars is banned but let’s wait and see
