    thanks sm for all ur videos! I was wondering if you could do a video on how to identify the arguments in argument analysis! thanks :)

    • @JLTutoring
      @JLTutoring  2 роки тому

      Thanks @emily! Definitely planning on making a video like this (although it may not be released soon), so as a brief summary:
      To identify the arguments I like to go roughly in chronological order - this is for the simple reason that the author has structured their article in a particular way and so there are conscious decisions made in the process that we can analyse i.e. did the author begin with a certain argument? end with a certain argument etc. Then I look for shifts in one or more of the following: tone, argument type or audience - and that is how I split up my paragraphs based on changes in those areas

    Hey Julian, just a quick question with the Anki software that you used for the plans, did you have the prompt as the question, and your entire plan as the answer to help memorise? Or is there a more suitable method than just typing up each plan I do into a flashcard?

    • @JLTutoring
      @JLTutoring  2 роки тому

      Hey Joshua, so yes I had the prompt as the question, and then the entire plan as the answer. However, I didn't really use these as 'traditional flashcards' where I look at the prompt and have to memorise the answer word for word - it was more so a way to just track all the different plans I did and roughly recall what the plan was (since there is no need to memorise word for word for a plan).
      This was just my personal preference, you can type plans onto a word document if you wish - but honestly, any method that involves you doing lots of plans is a good approach.

    Thank Julian for such an amazing Video! I just had a quick question: How would you structure an argument anlaysis containing in total 2 media (articles or cartoons)? Like I'm not sure how should I be structuring each body paragraph? Thanks once again!

    • @JLTutoring
      @JLTutoring  2 роки тому

      Thanks Agario! So there are many ways to structure the argument analysis, there is no 'right' way - the way that I found most useful however was to talk about both media in each paragraph. Each paragraph would look like so:
      Topic Sentence -> Media 1 -> Media 2 -> Linking Sentence
      As for how much you want to write for each media, if both are articles of equal length then its good to write the same amount for each, but if not, adjust the length so its relative to the length of the article. For example, for an article and one cartoon, you might like to talk about media 1 for 75% and the 25% of the cartoon.
      Here is a sample from an old video (look at the description for the sample essay): ua-cam.com/video/FMrcmMil-EA/v-deo.html

      @@JLTutoring Thanks so much man! If you were given 2 articles and 1 cartoom (as some school SACs do) would you still utilise this method?

    • @JLTutoring
      @JLTutoring  2 роки тому +1

      @@agariolegend4848 If that is the case, I would have at least 2 media per paragraph. For example the VCAA 2016 exam article featured what you were saying, there was one main article, one shorter article and one cartoon. And for that, I included both articles in every paragraph, and then threw in the cartoon once in the paragraph that suited.
      Hope that helps!

    Hi julian, how did u go about analysing your books for English whilst reading them, like did you highlight and analyse quotes? Or did u focus more on ideas?

    • @JLTutoring
      @JLTutoring  2 роки тому

      Great question. I covered how I analysed my comparative books in this video: ua-cam.com/video/myWDj7SC4W0/v-deo.html
      Although this is comparative, it is a similar process for text response. As a summary, I read a section of my book and then look at online study guides for guidance on what ideas or quotes are important and how to analyse them. I then compile this mixed with my own thoughts into a word document.
      I initially focused on picking out and highlighting certain quotes for each section/chapter of the book. Then after I finished reading I would then group my quotes under broader ideas (themes) - this helps tremendously with essay writing.
      Hope this helps!

    Hi do you think it is too excessive to write 3 essays per week? One of each section. How many quotes do you use per paragraph in an argument analysis essay? Also, I lack tone adjectives and adverbs in argument analysis, do you have a vocab list u used with definitions? If so, please share it.

    • @JLTutoring
      @JLTutoring  2 роки тому +5

      1. It's not necessarily excessive to write 3 essays week, the important question to ask here is are you improving after writing each essay? For argument analysis, I wrote around 2 essays per week (starting from term 4 holidays), but after each essay I would write down what I did well and what needed improvement, and made a very conscious efforts to improve next essay. Also for each essay I would hand write them initially under timed conditions, but then after I would type it up and polish the essay - then I would print each essay out and add it to a binder. This way I can see the progression in my writing as well as areas of improvement. So short answer: write the number of essays which allows enough room for reflection and improvement after each one (for me, this was 2 per week for argument analysis, and for the other sections I tried to do 1 a week, but I mainly focused on doing plans rather than full essays)
      2. I tend to focus on 3-4 main quotes per paragraph in argument analysis, but I sometimes have run-along quotes (which are basically just short quotes that I don't analyse but I throw in just to make the sentence smoother) - but in short, focus on 3-4 main quotes.
      3. And yep, I have a vocab list here: ua-cam.com/video/p4Rm7ms1s-E/v-deo.html

    hi do you think writing in cursive is a problem , will exam markers mark it down if all letters are not clear?

    • @JLTutoring
      @JLTutoring  2 роки тому +1

      I wrote in partially cursive because my handwriting was quite messy - but this is not to say that you can't write this way, just make sure that most words are legible so the assessors can understand the meaning of most sentences. I would practice writing neatly during revision and get someone else to read my writing and circle any words they could not understand - this helped a lot!
