    Phenomenal video! It wasn't just water polo that influenced Jokic's skill with the ball. Handball and volleyball are played in physical education classes in our schools, and I know that Nikola also played those two sports as a child at school. He started playing water polo later because in our schools there is no possibility to introduce water polo into regular classes. In the world, Serbs are the most dominant in water polo, and in basketball and volleyball, and we also had handball players who were at the very top for a time. We are worse in football because of the crime that has taken root in that sport, but we have always had top footballers. Jokic is not the only outstanding passer with Serbian genes. Pistol Pete Maravich, Milos Teodosic and Luka Doncic. Drazen Petrovic was known as a killer scorer, but he also had exceptional passing skills, and Vlade Divac is one of the best centers of all time in that segment of the game. Jokic is not that good by chance because he comes from a country with an extremely rich basketball history.

    • @borisfrlic
      @borisfrlic 6 місяців тому +31

      Before anyone chimes in with "dRaZen wAs a CroAt", Drazen's grandparents and ancestors were Serbs. Virtually the entire Croat NATION is built from "croaticising" the Serb people / ethnos, in Dalmatia, Istra and Slavonia.
      90% "Croats" until WW2 (and the subsequent vatican & communist ethnoengineering began in ernest) were/identified as Catholic Serbs. There is nothing historically or culturally Croat about Dalmatia, Istra, or Slavonia, other than them being part of today's revived, clerofascist, Independant State of Croatia.
      Those are Serb genes.

    This is pretty good, I've been wondering about his early stats. I think I only ever heard one thing in the news about him then suddenly he's everywhere halfway into 2021 season. Nobody really explained the in-between stuff from being a draft steal to his first Stat jump in 2018. I think it's awesome mostly for the international players to realize it's possible.. they can make it and not just be a bench warmer for a 2 quarter return guy passer... you can be the star as long as you played water polo and love horse racing too 😅

    • @TheMilapMehta
      @TheMilapMehta 6 місяців тому +10

      Jokic's first stat bump actually came in 2017. The problem was that the Nuggets had another center, Nurkic, who was a 1st round pick. It was difficult for Jokic to play alongside Nurkic and get minutes. That's why his season averages are a little depressed. After they shipped out Nurkic, the Nuggets went 24-16 during the last 40 games Jokic started and he averaged 19.8pts - 11.5reb - 5.9 ast while shooting 57.3% from the field.
      Jokic was honestly capable of 25+ per game by year 3/4 but he was a little passive with scoring. Most people blamed his conditioning, but I think he was trying to build that team dynamic. Murray/Harris/Barton all got a lot more shots and opportunities to showcase their skill and allowing others to grow is how Murray became the second star. He put up 25/14/8 in his postseason debut in 2019 so Jokic's dominance over the last couple years shouldn't have surprised anyone.

      in what world is a guy who can wear you down running not athletic?
      he is faster than ad. yet people like you are never saying ad is unathletic.
      what is this ? is this a race thing? do americans even understand what athletic means?

    Thanks for this - it's very fair. However... The Joker is a deceptive, nasty manipulator. Even we in Serbia slept on him for a long time.
    He persuaded everyone that he's slow. No, he isn't, and he isn't just quick to turn around and leave his defender clutching for air. See him push the fast break with the ball. When you see the slow strides into the paint, notice that he's either bulldozing the defender out of the way or feeling for an opening, creating it with a stop, turn or that extended/delayed second step.
    I think I heard this morning that he dunked for the second time this season. Things like that add to the deception - but think of a Hakeem highlight: Is it some spectacular slam, or is it having Robinson jumping around him like a puppy before he just laid the ball up? He humiliates his rivals more by putting the ball in after sending them to fetch.
    The biggest trick he pulled, however, is having fooled not just the casuals, but the so-called analysts into believing he really doesn't care about the game by talking about it as "the job." The guy is insanely competitive, and I would bet anything that by now, not one of the players in the league is lulled into that fairytale he spun.
    Yes, he's only 28. The way he seems to have weeded out bad habits and developed good practices, and how he conserves his athleticism - he should be in a good place to avoid injuries typical for dunkers and extend his prime. And with his ability to elevate teammates, he should be the pillar for perenially contending teams for many years.
    Pardon the rant! 😜

      No, jokic is amazing but who he has played at his position is not equal in any way shape or form to other great centers. Jokic is punishing smaller, lighter glorified PFs. With nothing but room the triple double is not the same and doesn’t hold the same weight defense is a joke, the passing lanes are insane. Now don’t get it twisted I think jokic is amazing but no it helps to play in this era. The same way people want to tax players from the 60s he has to get taxed for this weak ass sh8t era. And btw wilt played and matched up against Russell who still holds the high Juno record at San Francisco university in the high jump and was ranked 7th in the world at one time, Walt Bellamy? Nate Thurmond, Willis reed, bob Lanier, artis Gilmore, young Kareem. Shaq played the admiral, Ewing, Yao, Hakeem, rik smitts who was really good, dikembe and Zo. Hell just this video alone look at who he is scoring on lol it’s a joke of course a skilled big is going to dismantle these dudes.

His skill came from being able to blow past defenders manipulated by his control of pace, and he was seen as one of those supposedly unathletic types that you had to have on your pickup team if you wanted to dominate. Jokic is far more than Miller could have been because his skills are hardly ever seen in large people.

    Unfortunately, Jokić experiences the same challenge in the NBA as Djokovic in tennis. Despite the inexorable statistics, this reality does not exist for meny people and "press and experts". Although they are dominant in every aspect in the history of the sport. Guess what these two sports giants have in common. The country they come from. However, all those who challenge them do not know the characteristics of the people they come from. "You can't break me" and "I'll do it all against all your efforts to challenge me even if it's not in my favor". It's called "Inat" and it's characteristic of the end of the world they come from. So expect a lot more from both of them.

    • @TheMilapMehta

      It seems more like a difference in the sports audience. Novak's personality would work really well in the NBA. He'd be regarded just like Luka and would have been embraced immediately once he hit the dominance stride. In tennis, Novak is super mature now, but he used to be a bit of a head case and didn't mature quite as quickly as Roger (another headcase when younger who immediately turned it around) which is why he hasn't been as celebrated.
      Jokic is just like Rafa. Both guys were super humble from the beginning, fierce competitors who leave it all out on the court, and neither likes talking about awards and accolades. Jokic would have been embraced super well in tennis, but in the NBA you have to be a bit more brash.
