Finally!!! I have searching UA-cam pretty much daily waiting for someone to post a video review of this tent, thanks for doing this. I've been on the fence for a bit now trying to decide if I should order this tent or not. Looks like it would work for me.
I ended up getting one of these after watching you're great showcase videos. Excellent tent upon first setup. Looking forward to taking it into the mountains in the winter. Now if only that vestibule wasn't sold out across the entire globe, lol.
The possible holy grail, I was really surprised at that. All I see is a good weather tent, and a heavy one at that. Because of the pole design I would hate to set this up when it's pouring. Because of the length I would hate to use it in weather where condensation is a given. I see a tent that gets your stuff wet so, I'm a bit stumped. What am I missing, what do you like so much? To compare; my own HG contender is still the naturehike cloud peak 2, which I bought because of your review (thank you so much :) Which is slightly heavier but has two vestibules build in. It does have a fairly large foot print which can be an issue. For a 120 quid I see no downside to that tent at all. I camp a lot in norwegian forests, maybe that's why I don't see the virtue of this black diamond tent? What is it's intended use?
Yep, i get what you mean. I do like the space and stability for fast light overnights but long term base tents deffo the Naturehike would be a more comfortable option. ATB A
here is my second impressions. I own one and I've used it in weather. this is not a tent for the rain or a tent if you're in the clouds in the wind. the roof vent seems like a good idea... but in these conditions you get wet. there is no option to zip it shut... you just get wet. I save it for clear nights on the snow in the cascades or olympics... otherwise, I use a lighter unit or one that can be in the alpine rains. honestly this bivy tent only has a specific weather window/terrain that it make sense only for specific use. sorry, not a great tent for most people.
Quite right Bob , the S15 is a good un, looks like we're not getting much use from any of them for a few months, I'll just need to watch more camping videos :-)
Hi, The overlap of the vent hoods is enough to stop any direct rain getting in. At the no see um mesh vents in the roof there's also a sewn lip round them so if water was blown underneath it gets stopped by the lip so so far no problems in driving rain and wind. A
No use to me at 6' 1" but, good vid as always Andrew. Admire and relate to your tireless pursuit for the 'holy grail' of tents. Is the Hilleberg Soulo (if one can afford it) not, the current HG?
@@lewisjones7153 Good point, forgot about the weight. The wife friendly Allak is nearly £900 and presumably even heavier. Hmmm.. The search goes on. I'd be veering toward MSR then🤔
@@lewisjones7153 Agreed. Currently appreciate having 3 solo tents for different scenarios as like you say, there is no perfect tent (Wife says NO more!😂). That's what keeps it interesting, I s'ppose. Would be a dull world, if there was the perfect of anything in wildcamping. Thank goodness😁
Interesting tent Andy. I’ve been looking at the Goretex.....well, BD take on it, version of this. Thought ide let you know by the way.....I finally did it.....I managed to track down an immaculate RAB Latok Base. Did a straight swap for my RAB Summit Mountain. What vestibule did you get fours in the end please? Do you still have the crux tent? Kindest regards Dean South Wales.
Hi Dean, I've sold the wee Crux , it's great but small, really half bivy, half tent but super stable. Nice move on the Base tent, if I remember right it's the latok mountain 2 vestibule I zipped on to it. There's a wee bit of extra zip left over at one end of the door when you fit it but it works fine. Hope you're safe down there. A

Hi Jesse, got one night in it just before the country locked down and it worked a treat for me, will upload soon. A

Good point about the rain channel, that would certainly make it a lot better. Atb Glenn
The devil is in the detail, the camping is in lockdown :-(
Looking forward to your updates.
Should have a wee vid up soon ( pre lockdown ) A

Good points, I just stuck a car sponge in the windward vent and it solved most issues :-)
Thanks again Andrew for the review, good tent but its not gonna tempt me away from my S15.

Afraid that those awnings in strong winds will act like sails... what do you think?
Possibly , they use a bigger diameter pole for that part and I reckon it's because of the flex force it must withstand, time will tell ! A
Any chance of a video of you setting this tent up? Thanks for Posting!
I'll have a think about it Anthony ( I always find the set up videos boring so to tend to skip those parts personally ) :-)
@@AndrewParkOutdoors Thanks for getting back, I bought 1 myself and bever heard good things about putting a Bibler type tent up.
Great review thank you
Hi Andrew, do you think this tent could be used in winter ? I mean it is a 3 or 4 seasons tent ?
Thanks !
4 season definitely
Hi,
Do you still have this tent and if so how are you getting on with it?
I sold it a few years back but did like it, super strong 😄
It's an interesting option!
You cant close the top vents? Whats happens if the rain comes from wrong side ?

Funny I was gonna ask a similar question 👍😊
Bit heavy for some and no good if you want to take ur wife along😉

did they change the dimensions the length is 82 inches
Not sure Grant, I haven't tried the original green one for size but this is fairly short.

Still I don't think I could handle a tent without an inner tent no matter the weight, nil single skinners for me.
ay, I had Kimmlite sub Kilo many years ago and can still recall waking up due to suffocation. I think in this jobbie it would be hypothermia...
I know what you mean Cammy but they do suit my fast and light overnights. ATB A
