@Diezel Parisius Some people Telling me I can't prove it means you suspect I'm lying. Well, I'm not. That said, in the end I suppose it makes no difference what you believe because I know the truth. I was on that ship for 5 weeks. We had to go via the Panama Canal because the Suez Canal was closed due to the 7-day war (when we went to Australia on the Canberra we went via the Suez Canal) .

You can literally see the steel/rust eroding off of her remains. The ocean is immensely powerful.
I wondered if it were rust, or churning up sand from the seafloor.
When I was in high school back in the early 1980's I had a neighbor who server in Word War Two. He was sent to Europe on this ship (SS American Star, ex SS America) when it was used as the troopship USS West Point.

@@tmanoutdoors8277 Yes, SS America/SS Australis/SS American Star, same ship. The wreck collapsed in 2013 and only a small part can been seen at low tide.

I always wonder how much wreckage/debris of her may still remain below the waterline. I mean, all the heavy stuff like the keel, engines, crankshafts, generators, boilers etc. must have went somewhere. I can't imagine that those massive parts simply dissolved, while much lighter wreckage like this part of the forecastle is still somewhat intact. In older photos you could still see the stern sections hull shape deep below the water, even years after it completely disappeared from the surface.
Just letting you know there’s a great vid by Matthew cox it a drone Birds Eye view of the wreck with really clear water so you can see the out line of the wreck th engine and the boilers don’t need to check it out just recommending it

Some considerable sand surging around the hull with each wave. We are literally watching the ocean swallow the "America". Remember, while she was considerably older and less powerful, this was the running mate of the S.S."United States". She was a legendary part of the international North Atlantic ocean liner travel system. In a manner of speaking, this end is fitting for a true companion of the sea.

I had a neighbor who has long since passed away who sailed to Europe on the SS America when she was used as a troopship and called the USS Westpoint during WWII.
Very sad, sailed on her as SS Australis from UK to Australia in 1968 when a teenager. Gibraltar/Capetown/Fremantle/Melbourne, Suez Canal was closed.

1. This ocean water is extremely corrosive 2. These waves are insane and tough to break down an entire ship within a span of almost 30 years.
Great video - my personal channel (Doug Griffiths) has video I shot of the wreck in 1999 & 2000. If only drones and hidef digital photography had been available then! I travelled from Southampton to Auckland on her in 1976 BTW.

How did ship was gone so fast??? Metal gone because of salt water?
NoOne! She collapsed, most likely due to her old age, her split, and her lack of maintenance.
Gone so fast.?.it was very visible for 10+ years.
Salty ocean water is very bad for steel but the very common rough seas there made the ship collapse, It's also the reason why she broke in two at first. And this happened in 1994, not so fast after all. Ships wrecked in calmer waters usually start to rust away at the waterline and they can "survive" for a very long time.

poor old ship, the only thing still intact and recognizable is the boiler in 10 to 15 ft of water...
This must have been during a lower tide, but not lowest tide.
Even in October of year 2021, we have seen a little more wreck pieces above the water at really lowest tide including very small pieces of the middle ship section.
Visiters should pay attention to the tide time table, every minute counts. But that's only for real fans of the ship, which have seen the wreck in it's impressive conditions many years ago. Newbies will always say: "That's all, this ridiculous small rusty part of metal ?". Poor people, because they missed the wreck when it was the most spectacular one ever seen on earth. 😊

Its sad but I don't get why no one went underwater to find it.
The ship was torn apart because of the rough waters. Nothing left to dive\explore other than twisted and torn bits of the ship

probably nothing, when we went there, the only way to get some footage was with a drone. The ship was almost completely gone…

Dive her? There's almost nothing left. As sad as it is, even if they wanted to, the water is too shallow and rough to get to the remains of the ship.
