I think the key to Sanderson seems obvious is he is so wel rounded. Good with pins, good with takedowns standing. His speed seems to be his greatest strength, but he really has no weakness either. He combines speed with strength, with intelligence, and finally stamina. He seems to never tire either

Made it look easy. Relaxed, having a good time and playing around. I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone make something that is so hard to do, look so easy. That is a master at his craft.

Wrestled him (Cael) in HS at Reno. He was definitely good back then but he really took it to a whole different level in college. I am fairly sure it was at Reno but it may also have been the California Classic that was held at Davis (tourny no longer exists and was ran by Tirapelle Sr when they were in NorCal).

Cael beat some serious STUDS in the finals over his career: Eggum (3x All-American, World Silver, University of Minnesota Head Coach), Vertus Jones (3x All-American, absolute stud), Daniel Cormier (Olympian, World Bronze, UFC LHW/HW Champ), Jon Trenge (3x All-American, maybe the best wrestler to never win a national championship in my opinion.)

He was outstanding in high school, but he really turned the corner going into college. A lot of wrestlers face burnout or complacency. Sanderson only seemed to get hungrier every single year. He only wrestled to win, never “not to lose”. Zero surprises that he is already one of the greatest coaches of all time.

True wrestling is so disrespected. Someone like Kyle Dake is our number one prospect for a gold medal and he barely gets acknowledgment. Same with Sanderson. His accomplishments should go down in all of sports as a top 5. Imagine one injury or sick day and you lose a match out of 159 of them. So easy to do and yet he always won. I wonder if the ideal physique like in boxing for wrestling is not necessarily to be as massively muscled as Eggum is because of speed and stamina issues. Sanderson seems to win this basically on the speed factor. He is just shoots much faster than Eggum does and that is the difference.

Cael Sanderson. And U.S.A Wrestling 😎 relentless wrestler !!! He would run on his knees and get an ankle. Wrestled like a praying mantis. 2 on 1 goes a long, long way. Too bad Utah drop the ball on wrestling in 1979. But the women's gymnastics team (Redrocks) got extra money because they canceled wrestling program. So I went to Oregon. what I would have given to wrestle for Master Bobby Douglas !!! Trivia question, up until 1978 which high school wrestling program had the highest win loss record ?
