7:30 this ship is l'Hermione The Hermione is a French warship in service from 1779 at the Rochefort arsenal. It is a 12-gun frigate of the Concorde class carrying 26 12-pounder cannons and 8 additional 6-pounder cannons. In March 1780, the Marquis de La Fayette embarked aboard the Hermione for a secret mission. He was sent by King Louis XVI to the United States to inform General George Washington of the support of the Kingdom of France for the American “Insurgents” in their fight for independence. The frigate L’Hermione with the young marquis on board crossed the Atlantic Ocean in 38 days to deliver this long-awaited message to America. At that time, La Fayette did not suspect that he would become a true symbol of Franco-American friendship. It was in Boston that La Fayette landed in 1780 to announce the arrival of a new French fleet to General Washington. This commitment sealed a real relationship of trust between France and America. The Hermione then entered the heart of the American War of Independence. Indeed, a few months later the French fleet and troops commanded by the Count of Rochambeau played a decisive role in the Franco-American victory at Yorktown, ensuring the independence of the young American nation. With around ten captures of English ships, the Hermione demonstrated her efficiency and the capabilities of her crew during these two years of campaigning along the American coast. In this respect, she corresponded in every way to the warships of this great era in the history of the French Navy, which showed its superiority during the American War of Independence. In France in 1793, the Hermione was engaged in the mouth of the Loire to support the Republican troops against the Vendéens. As it left the estuary on September 20, it hit a rock and sank off Le Croisic. An association decided, with the help of local authorities, to embark on the attractive but difficult adventure of rebuilding it identically in Rochefort, in the very arsenal where it was born. A huge and crazy bet for a small team. The construction budget for the ship was around 25 million euros. The construction site was launched on July 4, 1997, the American national holiday, and lasted 17 years for its complete reconstruction (the original ship had to undergo some modifications such as the addition of 2 electric motors, it is forbidden to sail on board without an engine these days, particularly because of insurance)
I'm french and I visit many place in this video and I never visit Paris. I can told you this video is pretty nice and no fake. U can't imagine the number of place u can visit. Everywhere u are in France, there is an historical heritage. There is a lot of treasure to discover.
at 24'30 the boat on the bridge. on this bridge passes "the canal du midi", an artificial canal built in the seventeenth century it allows navigation between the Mediterranean and the Atlantic.
Hello "D", I'm French and I live in Normandy, France. I've been watching your channel for some time now. I just wanted to say that I really appreciate your spirit, and it's clear that your love for France shines through in your videos, which makes me genuinely happy. If you'd like and if you're available, I would be delighted to invite you to my home and family in France. I live about an hour away from Mont Saint Michel and the city of Le Mans. Like you, it seems, I also enjoy good food, and I'd love to introduce you to some culinary specialties and incredible places in France. It might even help you reconnect with your French roots, if I understood correctly. Feel free to reach out to me; I'm very serious. FX Fèvre
you are too kind, it would be amazing!! I appreciate it! One day, I will get serious when I have money and Time and I will visit a bunch of countries! I have to do it!!

As born-raised alsatian I enjoyed every bit of reaction you had about my region. Made me feel very proud (once again!). We tend to forget how privileged we are to live in such amazing place. We get blind from the extraordinary when it is our norm ;-) Long live to your channel!
I think if you were to launch a crowdfunding for a road trip in france lodging at locals' houses asking to french people (like myself) to let you crash at their place and let them cook local food and/or get you to their local favorite restaurant and places to visit you'd get a LOT of french people funding it (like myself) the way you're transmitting enormous amounts of love for our country's every aspect from culture to food to media etc, it's what make french people subscribe to your channel and comment to add context We can all see the sincerity in your content about us and it is an absolute joy to witness all the love from france merci infiniment monsieur pour vos vidéos, c'est un vrai régal
You don't get fat from healthy food, especially when you walk a lot. When they make movies set in old Paris, they often use Bordeaux because it hasn't changed as much as Paris.
Merci pour votre réaction. Je suis fier de mon pays (à part niveau politique), mais c'est un des seul qui présente tous les paysages... 11:13 in fact the good quality ingredients + the fact that you will be walking a lot as a tourist in france will makes it possible to eat and eat again and still be able to go back to the US while having lost a few pounds.
you're nuts. of course france lets you be free. -Do eat whatever. perhaps hire a "maid" if you're Parisian rich (= filthy). We cook amazing stuffs; I love "service" not so much serving the "entitled"
Hello from France 👋 I live at the lope of the Pyrenees, one hour from Toulouse, the "pink city". Just to say that I absolutely love your videos about France. Love your reactions. We have an marvellous country. They talked a little about those cities in Occitanie you definitely should check : Toulouse, St Bertrand de Comminges (both are in Haute-Garonne départment), Nîmes (Gard department), Figeac and Rocamadour (in the Lot department). Rocamadour is a city built on a cliff ; it's just fantastic. You have to know that in the south of France, there are three recipes of the Cassoulet, and the best one is from Toulouse of course. And about the viennoiserie you call "Pain au chocolat", we in Toulouse and a part of south call it "Chocolatine". But France is wonderful. Glad you like it. Have a good one !
27:56 It's called the Serpent de l'océan, one of the many artistic installations of the region. It's just chilling by the beach and accessible. Sadly, not a real skeleton... Its an hour away from the Éléphant at Nantes. The company who made it, les Machines de l’Île, have made others, it's worth visiting (in winter they do ice sculptures as well). At Toulouse they have a minotaure.
I love your reaction…You are so funny ! You are right, images go so fast then impossible to see all the wonderful landscapes. You’re right once more when you say that when you visited Paris, you can’t say that you visited France. So many awesome places to discover !!! Please people…come and have another incredible memories and emotions outside Paris 🤗. From France with love 🥰
Just discovered your channel. Frenchman exiled in London, here. Love your enthusiasm (and very impressive French). They should do a similar video about the UK. It's far from being all about London and Buckingham Palace.
The picture with all the boats and the 'pirate ship' comes from 'Les fêtes maritimes de Brest' that happens every 4 years. Next one is in 2028. See you there in 4 years :)
Very enjoyable video, thanks for your enthousiasm ! It makes me want to spend each of my 12 next vacation in a different region of France ( I'm from Occitanie and I've been around many places all over France, but there is always so many beautiful landscapes, villages, towns and countryside to discover… You don't have enough of a lifetime to see it all). There's definetely a way to go around without being rich (I use car pooling, ride a bike, hike, I go to youth hostels and rbnbs, I choose small local restaurant that are not fancy but yet delicious)
At 29:33 you asked if we can afford to visit "les gorges du Tarn". It's free, you just have to bring your own canoe or rent one. You can spend a really nice day there.
I'm from Savoie, in Auvergne Rhone Alpes. I have to admit we are in a sublime country, snow in winter, hot sun and lakes everywhere in summer, REALLY good food.... But i miss Brittany, i miss the ocean and the friendly mood there... In Savoie everything is expansive, so even if there're a lot of work (tourism of course but also heavy industry, high tech industry etc..) it's hard to live well... It's not the case in brittany, more peaceful, less expansive, and so beautiful to... Come in France dude, you have so much things to see, to do, to eat, and so much fun to have !!
Hi D, the water bridge which caught your attention is the "Pont-canal du Cacor" (litterally : channel-bridge) which allows the "Canal des 2 mers" to cross over the Tarn river on its way to the Atlantic Ocean. It's located in Moissac, 50km from Toulouse. I have spent a lot of time over and under this bridge in my youth. I'm glad it caught your attention 🥰 BTW the "Canal des 2 mers" was an insane human masterpiece, which connected the Atlantic Ocean to the Mediterranean sea. Its highest point, the Seuil de Naurouze is where the water from the "Reservoir de Saint Ferreol" (a lake located in altitude) is split in 2, allowing the channel to flow in 2 directions from its highest point, from east to west to the Atlantic Ocean, and from west to east to the Mediterranean Sea.
12:10 If it feels like Italy, it's because it is! That is Polignano A Mare in Puglia, Italy. It's not in Corsica. The stunning city in Corsica is Bonifacio, built over a cliff, but it is much smaller. Corsica is awesome, the best kept French secret. It remains very wild, one of the best place in Europe to enjoy nature at a large scale.
Man, I love your channel, i'm french and I think i've seen all your videos. You seems like a great guy. I'd like to drink a beer with you if you come to France. Keep up being yourself. Love from France !
I grew up in the city where you said "put me right here!" and had so many great meals with my friend right on this place! Your enthusiasm made me want to go back a little, Provence is really something else
Hi friend. As you know, I've been to quite a few places in France, and those 12 regions the French/American guy showed you are indeed all individual separate entities that need to be explored. You need at least a few days in each region, better still one week, so multiply that by 12 and - yes - you're looking at two to three months if you have any hope of ticking off those places you saw in the film. Best advice is Eurail ticket for North Americans which you'll need to buy in dollars BEFORE you come over (I would imagine from an Amtrak agent). Then you don't need to worry about booking anything at all when you come over - you just turn up - et voilá.
Hi ! What you see at 27' 50'' is a work of art : "The Ocean Serpent", in Saint-Nazaire (if you like Jacques Tati's "Les Vacances de Monsieur Hulot" that's where the film took place).
You can find sea foods for 32€ per person for : 6 oylsters, ½ lobster, 3 langoustines, 4 shrimps, 1 handful of periwinkles, 100g of whelks, 2 dog cockles, 2 big mussels and 1 clam for instance (I just check one link). So I guess what they had may be around 75/90€ at most. It depends on where you are, with a beautiful view in a touristic place you can be up to 100/110€.
Small mistake about the cathedral of Reims, the cathedral of kings. It was Clovis who was baptized and crowned king of the Franks there in 486 and all the kings of France were consecrated there afterwards until the revolution.
Almost all french kings were crowned in Reims, from Clovis 1st in 496 to Charles X in 1825. But the cathedral was built from 1211 to 1345. There is only two french kings who weren't crowned in Reims. Louis VI in 1108 (crowned in Orléans) and Henri IV in 1594 (crowned at Chartres).
"In tartiflette we trust"...it was an humoristic slogan written on stickers savoyards enjoyed to put on their cars . In Brittany when you commented the traffic of sailboats...the big one is a frigate...a reproduction of "l'Hermione" who brought La Fayette to the United states...If you're american, visit Charleville where the rifle of your independance war were made, the factory was just in the nord east corner of "Place Ducale", watch a photograph of it and enjoy to have lunch there hearing the "carillon" sounding "le chant du départ"...i have 62 years and i have finished to visit my own country .
The "pirate ship" is no less that the re-creation of the Hermione, the ship of La Fayette. It should ring a bell in a US mind 😁 Gorgeous ship indeed, look at the size of her flag. This clip is from the "fêtes maritimes" that take place in Brest and Douarnenez every 4 years. It's a must see, not to mention the region itself! fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/F%C3%AAtes_maritimes_de_Brest
It is a shame that they are ignoring the Ile-de-France region, which is not quite Paris. 30 km from the capital, you are already in another world. Of course, you will quickly come across Versailles, but there are other castles like Fontainebleau and its forest, Vaux-le-vicomte, the castles of the Chevreuse Valley, but also Gatinais to the south or Vexin to the north, the valley of the Seine or the battlefields of the Marne. Places that are easy to reach, also by train, but regional this time.
You got it right when you tell you will spend 2 months here. French here from Grenoble in the Alps, and I took 2 1/2 months to visit only half of the USA and bordering Canada, and I was as astonished as you ;-) ! But when it comes to my home country, I have can only say I will never have time in my entire life to visit every outstanding place my country has to offer, not mentioning food of course ! Love how you like France too, hope you can make this project happen :-)
Hi Uncle D, 🌴🌞 The problem with treating France by regions is that they are too vast to precisely understand the diversity of landscapes and architecture of France. And this is because of the very recent revision of the regions of France aimed at reducing their number. Which has created some rather surprising historical incongruities I take as an example Occitanie, the region where I currently live and which has seen the joining of on one side, the Catalans (historically speaking including the entire Barcelona region of Spain and more generally Roussillon which share more or less the same Mediterranean culture) and Gascons (homeland of D'Artagnan, the very famous musketeer), it is still a historical aberration. Same for Champagne and Alsace (united within the Grand-Est region), it's a really big gap because until recently, finally (the redrawing of the regions took place in the mid-2010s), they were two distinct regions in essence and therefore totally different, whether in terms of architecture, landscape, climate, but also the mentality of the inhabitants. Moving from one to the other is almost like changing countries! 😅 We could thus go around the new French regions to rouse as many hares and historical traps. Peace, folks. ☮👈😎
I was born and raised in Corsica, in the town of Bastia❤ I was a student in Aix en Provence, I lived near to Lyon for a few years, then near to Cannes and now I live in Montpellier.
What you see in the river at the end of the Pays de la Loire section is a sculpture created as part of the ‘Voyage à Nantes’. There are sculptures all along the river (the Loire), from Nantes to the town of Saint Nazaire :) And the giant mechanical elephant you saw is part of what we call ‘Les machines de l'Île’. The idea is to mix the worlds of Jules Verne (a writer from Nantes who wrote Le tour du monde en 80 jours (Around the World in 80 Days) and vingt mille lieues sous les mers (Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea)) and Leonardo da Vinci. The machines have created a number of other animals of this type, as well as a giant carousel with underwater creatures.
As many commentaries indicated, even the new regions are so big to know the particularities. I come from the northen region, Hauts de France, on the coast. And I can say how many new things I am learning each year about my region. Aquitaine, Normandy, Centre, Alsace... Every part of France is interesting. I hope you will discover France one day.
23:14 you can see the Orne canal from Caen, Pegasus Bridge and a British Horsa glider of the D-Day for Sword Beach Landing Operation. Well you also can see a boat on a bridge over the road in Normandy near Isigny sur mer.
As a bretonne myself i once visired the occitanian region. I was in restaurants often to dine and each time when i was taking an aperitif the waiter would put a whole bottle of banyuls on my table and would tell me 'you have till I come back with your entrée (starter) to consume as much as you like for the same price'.... Waouh.. it was such risk to assume i wouldn't consume the hole bottle... Lol😅😊 by myself i didn't but had I been with friends... If you can't guess bretons are seen and ARE alcoolics 😂😂 we are kind of proud of it 😅 (not all of us are but a good majority)
Butter crepe moules salt …! Bretagne !!! ❤❤❤ also incredibles places to see a green blue ocean !!! 26:30 i live near ahah that was the old stadium they changed it to an hotel… yup sadly . Nantes 😂
love your reaction sir, the seafood plateau was worth at least 100€, I get some with friends and it's around this amount of money we spend each time. Please, do visit France, it's an awesome country. As for Marseille, it's a cheap city to drink or even eat. It's not that rich actually. When you start to visit it's east part from Hyères to Menton, now it's Yachts and crazy millionaires things. When you pause at 30:45 it's the Place des Quarts d'Heures in Aix-en-Provence, very famous, completly crowded at night as every single student of the city goes there to drink and to party. As for the region of Marseille, I would extremely recommend visiting the little town of Gordes, one of the most beautiful in the country, and YOU MUST reserve a tour to visit "Les Calanques". If you miss the Calanques, you missed the whole point of going to Marseille. I wish you a nice day sir, thx for the video.
As french writer Sylvain Tesson put it, not only France has this incredible diversity of landscape, there's not a single one of those that hasn't been beautifully painted or described by a poet and a writer. France is, before anything else, a nation built by and for art and literature.
Tours and around is the French valley of the kings : the weather is always sweet ! i've been known to wear some t-shirt mid november in Tours;we all call it " indian summer". Except in Tours where it's a normal automn.;
Hi! France’s advantage is its location at the edge of the continent, at the crossroads of Nordic, Alpine, and Mediterranean countries. This gives it landscapes, architecture, cultures, and people that fairly well represent Western Europe. As for the seafood platter, that must be worth three days' work! I’m from Provence, which is very Italian in its culture and lifestyle. The wealthy mostly concentrate along the coast, but in the hinterlands, which are just as magical, you'll find regular people and prices much, much lower than in Paris. Thanks for your videos; your reactions are great, and they make me want to share an apéro with you and a few laughs!
At 5:11, this is Saint-Stephen cathedral in Auxerre (or cathédrale Saint-Étienne), northern Burgundy. No TGV to Auxerre unfortunately, but you can catch a train from Bercy station and be there in just two hours 😊
Fun fact: The Middle Ages never burned witches, nor established dictatorships, nor made people dirty or slaves... The Middle Ages created the most beautiful country in the world, the most beautiful towns in the world, cathedrals,..etc in the political regime that comes closest to a democracy ever. All we love in this video come from Middle Ages .
I have a love for the Cevennes, which are in the douthern area, but northern of Montpelier and Nimes. The Area is so beautyful, isould sit on a mointain there and cry alone form waht i see. I was there in the 90-ires with the YMCA had so much fun and it as such a experiance.
Hello, I'm reacting about the way you're afraid of the prices. Overall, I guess most of the places shown there are cheaper or same price than a trip to Paris. Even Côte d'Azur that is pretty expensive will remain cheaper than Paris to rent a room or to visit places. The only difference is the train price that would actually cost the same as the housing for a week, that you wouldn't have to pay if you stay in Paris. Another big thing is to remember most crowded places are almost empty before July and after August (you may avoid 20th December to 5th January in some places too). In France have a lot of day free, but most of us must take holiday at specified dates, most of the time during summer.
If you have 2 months, you’ll do half of it.. but I could help you do the best of it.. by the way, the seafood platter costs about 30€ max, depending on the season, perhaps. Cheers from Paris, which is worth to see as well! 😊
hello. I've seen some of your videos and I love your reactions. I am going to recommend my city Girona. It was the setting for thrones, and of course Catalonia, I think you would like them, greetings,
Don't be too envious dear D, America is full of magnificent landscapes as much as France, it's just that you have to have a little more time for travel 😁
Tu a raison, c'est beau... Mais c'est cher et loin d'être aussi propre 😂 Kiss from Burgundy (Dijon to be precise). Oh and every french regions are cheese producers, it's like wine 🙂

7:30 this ship is l'Hermione
The Hermione is a French warship in service from 1779 at the Rochefort arsenal.

I'm glad it caught your attention 🥰
BTW the "Canal des 2 mers" was an insane human masterpiece, which connected the Atlantic Ocean to the Mediterranean sea.
I confirm. It's not in Corsica. At 11:34 and 11:49 too (Polignano). You're right : you feel Italy..because it's Italy. 😄

You are very funny, thanks for making me discover my country😂

Hi, I'm french and it's very nice to follow "american reaction" but, just just reaction because you are smart and funny ^^ THANK YOU
It is a shame that they are ignoring the Ile-de-France region, which is not quite Paris. Places that are easy to reach, also by train, but regional this time.
île de france is still the worst region out of the 13 in mainland

Hi Uncle D, 🌴🌞
The problem with treating France by regions is that they are too vast to precisely understand the diversity of landscapes and architecture of France.
And this is because of the very recent revision of the regions of France aimed at reducing their number.
Which has created some rather surprising historical incongruities
I take as an example Occitanie, the region where I currently live and which has seen the joining of on one side, the Catalans (historically speaking including the entire Barcelona region of Spain and more generally Roussillon which share more or less the same Mediterranean culture) and Gascons (homeland of D'Artagnan, the very famous musketeer), it is still a historical aberration.
We could thus go around the new French regions to rouse as many hares and historical traps.
Peace, folks. ☮👈😎
😊
(please ;) )

Ahah

You are absolutely right: France is not just Paris :)
If you can't guess bretons are seen and ARE alcoolics 😂😂 we are kind of proud of it 😅 (not all of us are but a good majority)

love your reaction sir, the seafood plateau was worth at least 100€, I get some with friends and it's around this amount of money we spend each time.

Tours and around is the French valley of the kings : the weather is always sweet ! i've been known to wear some t-shirt mid november in Tours;we all call it " indian summer". Except in Tours where it's a normal automn.;

Fun fact:
The Middle Ages never burned witches, nor established dictatorships, nor made people dirty or slaves...
The Middle Ages created the most beautiful country in the world, the most beautiful towns in the world, cathedrals,..etc in the political regime that comes closest to a democracy ever.
All we love in this video come from Middle Ages .

In France have a lot of day free, but most of us must take holiday at specified dates, most of the time during summer.
i live near the place you talk about at 31:00 and yes, it's overcrowded by night
