Great comparison and information video, Jim, of two quality tarps. As you said, personal preference will play a big part here, but I have to say that I like the unusual loop placement of the Solognac, the colour scheme too.
Nice comparison vid, JB. Same as you so far, no issues with my 2yo DD tarp. Mmm, the Solognac. I’d like to see a side by side later on in the year. Maybe October/November 👍🏼
Great video. I have the standard green DD3X3 and the Lomo 4x3 tarps and they both are great. I did get a couple of the cheap amazon tarps as spares one a small 2x1.5 and the other 3x3 both in camo. I have used the cheap 3x3 alot this year and the build quality is pretty good for a £20 tarp. The one thing a have noticed is that the sun has bleached the colour and it is alot lighter than it was originally and you can see next to the matching stuff sack it has become very washed-out and some of the greens are almost yellow. It will be interesting to see if the cheaper tarp you have does the same. Never had that problem with the DD but I suppose you get what you pay for. Cheers Alan
Good, thorough and balanced comparison. I’m getting very keen on the Solognac camo pattern the more I see it! Look forward to seeing it in the woods again soon. 😘
I've always thought the DD should have extra loops on the diagonals just for a bit of extra versatility .. and it would also be nice to see a few more videos about the m tarp
Great comparison mate, defo now made my mind up and will buy the solognac 👌🏻 thanks for sharing... I think after seeing them on the ground that the solognac blends in better with the floor...
I’ve bought the Decathlon coz of the price......in case it’s not good, ok, lessons learned buying cheap means buying expensive at the end, BUT after all use I can say it’s a great tarp, good quality and had no problems till now! And thx for sharing!
Brilliant comparison review, I have dd coyote brown 3x3 and 4x4 which colour wise, I find is a better all year round colour for the woods I'm in, both pine and deciduous woodland, really impressed by the new condender on the bloke, definitely going to get one for a look ,never have too many tarps 🤔, cool video Allan, good health and safe travels, cheers craig
Hi Alan, I never used a DD tarp (what I have found was, in comparisson, too expensive for me) and I havent seen the video yet but I wanted to say, before I even watch it, that I am very satisfied with my Decathlon tarp (no idea if its Solognac or Quecha), it was inside my budget and keeps the weather off me while camping. kind regards Alain
I am very happy with my Solognac one, build quality is the same as my DD one. Also I have heard the the quality of DD products have gone down in the last couple of years.
Just found your channel a few days ago and been binge watching lol... Also think we live in the same area.. Im really liking the idea of getting out in the woods so going to buy a few basic bits and give it a try soon before the weather turns.. All the best...
If you are local to me, just give me a shout if you need a few pointers for locations etc. You can find me on Facebook as Allan Ball or my group, Jim-bob's Adventures & Kit. 👍
Super! I'm getting ready to get a tarp and your info. is great. Those are both comparable. Build quality is so important. I was hoping they had aluminum oxide on the inside as that can reflect heat and there are a few Asian made ones that have this but not too sure about how well they are made. Also weight is big for me since I do a lot of back-packing here in the PNW and at 60 every lb counts after about 7 miles. These both "fit the bill" and again, your vid is very interesting for me to watch now that I'm looking to buy and learning more about what great solutions tarps are for shelter. Glad I subbed and enjoying your content!!! Take care. 👍
Great video review of the two sided by side I do like both and I will get both at some point but must admit I do prefer the dad stuff sack like u say and I dnt like the white underneath of the dd but I really like the solognac black underside though I think that should be a given really or they should be the same both sides but hey it is wot it is isn’t it thankyou for sharing this one mate all the best paul
Awesome comparison, the more I see the Solognac the more I like it, I am sold on the loop placement on it too. I have the brown DD 3x3 as the multi cam looked like digital pattern on the website and I don't like that. Do you know what the postage is from decathlon? I can't get it on the site unless I give them an email addy and if it isn't too steep I might put this on my xmas wish wist ;)

Funny you should say that, I noticed today that my DD was a bit lighter than the stuff sack. It has spent about 3 years out in the elements though. 😁
🤠👏👏👏, it's not just me then....looks like everyone was waiting for a comparison video😎‼️. Thanks for delivering!!!
I like to keep my subscribers happy. 😁👍
Cheers 🍻 Jim Bob for another honest comparison/review interesting no bells & whistles you say it as you see it.
Thanks Stephen. I just say it like it is, with real world use. Thanks for watching. JB.

Its very different but I really like it. I am going to do a proper camo test of it at some point.
Thanks Jim. A worthwhile comparison.
Thanks for watching Keith. 👍
Video was first class with all the information I needed.
Thank you. I have also done a camo test video with them both.
I've always thought the DD should have extra loops on the diagonals just for a bit of extra versatility .. and it would also be nice to see a few more videos about the m tarp
I have no complaints about my old DD MC, I just think things have moved on a bit and its showing its age design wise.
Great comparison mate, defo now made my mind up and will buy the solognac 👌🏻 thanks for sharing...

Did a proper camo test today, video out tomorrow night. 👍
I’ve got a dd & luvit .. but look forward to seeing both up to compare .. cheers buddy cheers Chris & Sam

You had problems with your one?
Never, all stitched are properly, still waterproof, no tear outs, simply nothing! Simply reliable! 👍 I can recommend this tarp easily!

Thanks Craig. Coyote brown does work well. 👍 I am loving the new Solognac tarp though. 😁

@@jim-bob-outdoors I know, I watched the video after my comment :-)
I love the furtive Camo.
Very unusual.Makes a refreshing change.
Great review.
Stay well.👍🏾
That's what interested me when I 1st saw it. 👍
Excellent comparison without the 'it's showtime folks' . Appreciate the no fluff treatment and well-measured comparison. Thank you for posting. 🙏🏻
Thanks for that. Looking at it now, I thought it was a bit too long winded. 😁

@@stripfix1979 plenty of options around the Hastings area. 👍
Been looking at a few walks to do online so wish me luck lol 👍👍👍
Hello again matey.. Went for a wonder over coomb valley.. Found about 3 old fires been left.. Looks like its used quite a bit but had a lovely day 👍
Nice comparison there JB I have the dd one and it does the job . Solognac looks like it does to . Take care 👍
Both are very good, I just like some of the features that have been added to the Solognac. 👍
Yep looks a decent alternative to dd . 👍
Nice review, I’ve not owned the DD but I love using SOLOGNAC 👍
The DD is a good tarp, but the Solognac is like a modern version of it. 👍
Any chance u could do comparison when both are up and which blends in best etc?
Yes I can do that if you like. 👍 Will film that next week if I get the chance. Regards JB.
@@jim-bob-outdoors cheers
Nice review cheers
The Solognac tarp reminds of kryptek camouflage...
The is a few things on the market that look similar. I think a few people will be moving away from more traditional camo in the future. JB.

Some of my friends have the silver lined tarps and they do reflect some heat, especially if its set up near a fire. Regards JB.
Comprehensive is the word. Good review Allen. ATB Grays
Thanks mate. 👍
Hi Jim Bob, really good review 😊💝🏴 xxxx
Thanks for watching as always Paula. 😘👍
Cheers matey, a useful review. 👍🏻
Thanks mate. 👍
Thank you!!...... as always Alan 😁
Carnt wait to see the Solognac over the next 5 months.
"Legend"
I will be using it quite a bit, I am really liking it. 👍
this was a helpful video, im looking to buy a tarp to put on top of my 12 year old tent its 2m by 2m base
Thanks for watching.
Nice 1 Allan like the look and cheapness of the decathlon 1 ATB craig 👍👍
Its a winner at that price. 👍
I was hoping you would of set them up mate,,, but great video mate
This was just the spec and my thoughts. Will be doing a follow up video testing the camo in the woods. 👍
@@jim-bob-outdoors looking forward mate i am now trying to find that other tarp on amazon
I think I'm headed to decathlon for my next tarp 👍🏼👍🏼
Its good if you can get one, they sell out fast. 👍
Great video, full of useful information. Thanks

It would make sense if all tarps were black on the underside, Its not like it would cost any more to produce. 👍

The Solognac is my favourite at the moment. As far as I remember, it was £3.99 or £4.99 for next day delivery.
Hey Jim Bob hope you are well
Doing ok thanks, how is things with you my friend?
Thanks, this was really helpful.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. If you look on my channel, I did a camo test between the 2 a week or so later. Regards JB.
Would you be able to recommend how many pegs and cord is needed to setup solognac?
Depends on what shape you want to do. Most of the time I take a ridgeline, 2 guy lines and about 6 pegs. That will do most things.
Still love that tarp just a shame it's out of stock again buddy
Selling like hot cakes mate. I think people are starting to see what good value it is. 👍
Not once did he actually set these things us or show us the content of the bags, failed video. Pictures aren't enough.
Well if you followed the channel you would of seen that I did a whole video after this one, testing them in many different locations. 🤷♂️
Also I just checked your channel. Seeing as most of your videos don't crack 100 views, and this one is on 3k+, I think I am doing ok. 😂😂
