As a server who works at a restaurant that’s crazy busy and I’m always in the weeds, I will confirm we actually love these people. They give us chances to semi catch up with the hundreds of things we’re multi tasking.
I can appreciate that, but at the same time, I the type that takes about 5 seconds to decide what I want (have probably made up my mind while being directed to a table), and I love when I get the chance to order immediately. I've had plenty of encounters like this one, where the people I'm with ask the server for more time, and it drives me insane. It's a meal, it isn't rocket science, people!

The parents could just talk to them, let them watch their surroundings and maybe answer questions about it or explain something new to them... or they could bring silent mini-entertainment with them for the children like a pocket friendly comic book or a little game or a toy etc like my parents did for appoinments where they knew we could get bored after a while.

this is why I like to go to restaurant by myself. it surprisingly relaxing. no one there rushing you, no one there distracting you, you can enjoy your food at your own pace, no unnecessarily small talk, and I can order whatever I really like without being judge.

I went out to a grill at Emerald Isle years ago with my friend and her 10 year old daughter. She let her daughter change her order 5 times!!! Each time the cook had to throw food in the garbage and start over. I could see how angry he was getting. FINALLY the manager told her that she was going to have to pay for each meal if she let her kid change her order one more time. My friend was furious at me for siding with the manager. We also went to a restaurant in Greensboro about once a week. Each time she would complain about the tea and ask for a new glass. After several months of that the waiter told her no. She was livid. I stopped going out to dinner with her because she's a damn mental case. Surprisingly her kid turned out to be super cool. We were concerned she'd be like her mom. We would say the mom had "Rich Man's Daughter Syndrome".
I'm surprised you hung in there that long going to restaurants w/ that friend. Sounds pretty entitled, w/ no concept of what she is costing other people, or how much trouble she's imposing. I used to have bad restaurant etiquette too. I had a friend point it out to me in frustration and after some defensiveness, I eventually realized she was totally right and got more considerate.

Nah, in my experience, the worst people to eat with are the ones who are rude to the waiter and act completely entitled- you feel bad for the staff and embarrassed at the same time. Cause eating with them makes it feel as if people will think you act that way as well
Because eating with them is a total embarrassment. You're ashamed to be associated with them. Whether the wait staff thinks you're like that or not. I'd be apologizing either in front of the rude person, or behind their backs, or both, depending on my relationship to them, & make it clear I'm not like them. But I'd still be embarrassed by my association with them. 🤷🏻♀️ And if at all possible, I would not be going anywhere with them, especially to eat, in future...
Trust me, as a waitress, we know which ones are the rude entitled and which are embarrassed. I’ve had many tables where halfor even just one are rude and the rest are lovely. Those lovely ones make the experience so much nicer.

As the manager of a restaurant I can say that there are two worst types of people.
1. Parents that let their goblins (children) make a mess without teaching them that it's wrong.
2. People that come in five minutes before close and say "We made it in time!"
I intentionally won't go to an eatery if it's closing soon, because I refuse to put fine people like yourself through that. I can't stand those who do.
You missed the group of drank idiots at the bar that literally won’t leave until 20 minutes after we’ve turned off the music, tvs, and all the waiters have for the most part gone home.
You forgot about the old people who complain about both the 10 minute wait, as well as the table they got even tho we have a 30+ minute wait.
As someone who has worked in a restaurant, I concur.

Nah, in my experience, the worst people to eat with are the ones who are rude to the waiter and act completely entitled- you feel bad for the staff and embarrassed at the same time. Cause eating with them makes it feel as if people will think you act that way as well
Because eating with them is a total embarrassment. You're ashamed to be associated with them. Whether the wait staff thinks you're like that or not. I'd be apologizing either in front of the rude person, or behind their backs, or both, depending on my relationship to them, & make it clear I'm not like them. But I'd still be embarrassed by my association with them. 🤷🏻♀️
And if at all possible, I would not be going anywhere with them, especially to eat, in future...
Trust me, as a waitress, we know which ones are the rude entitled and which are embarrassed. I’ve had many tables where halfor even just one are rude and the rest are lovely. Those lovely ones make the experience so much nicer.
