Also, here's a mod(not mine) that is more in line with a properly remastered/uprezzed weapon models: www.moddb.com/mods/quake-arena-arcade-assets/downloads/quake-arena-arcade-assets
You actually did it! Great job, thanks for sharing! I would like to see a remake of the original q3 BFG some day.
We'll see, but no promises. Currently working on some other mods in the meantime.
But hey, after what recently happened in Quake II, there's some chance that maybe, we get a more proper(professional) Q3 touch-up from Nightdive. :)
If id software and nightdive studios ever make a remaster port of quake 3 for its 25th anniversary, they should pitch you as weapon and model update, either way Great Job
Oh hell no! I'd probably screw it up. If ever, I'd rather recommend they get a hold of "Tabun". That dude's one of my big inspiration for delving into this in the first place.
Here's his work samples:

And yeah, most of his models are used in that (still) in development Quake 3 mod; Generations Arena.

Fans remastered the game a little themselves. The ioquake3 version of the game got OpenGL2 support and it drastically improved the lighting, sadly it was largely ignored by the community.
I NEEEEEEED THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
just downloaded these, they are amazing
Damn great job, looks insane!
thank you
They look like they're from Postal: Brain Damaged. Interesting design!
Looks really good!
Where were these models when I was still playing Q3A? They are huge upgrades over stock!
Looking Good!
This is..
IMPRESSIVE!
Wow! Impressive!
Good, now I have to play Q3A again.
Thanks for the excuse I'll use for my wife "No, honey, I'm just checking custom models..."
Really nice!
thanks
I like ❤
Beat ND to the punch!
Really nice. Love it.
If you'll allow some constructive criticism, the plasma gun seems a little "flat" in the plasma department. If that makes sense.
Noted. Though, as I replied on some other comments here; I'm not going to get around this one for awhile, as I'd rather focus on working on my other mods and model stuff in the meantime.
To be honest, with what happened with Quake II recently, I'm actually just banking on a hunch that maybe, next year or something, we get the same 'enhancement' treatment to Q3 by Nightdive.
@@CatsOverdrive so far that I've tested - all the mods for Quake 1 work on the remaster, and minor tweaking is getting mods to work with Quake 2 Remaster. Your stuff is GOOD so I don't know if I'd shelf it expecting something better when, based on what I'm seeing, I can't imagine a Q3 remaster being better. How pleased would you be to find out people use your mod ON TOP a Remaster?
Hey! I recently have begun to go on moddb and try to look into learning how to mode idtech3 and idtech4... any advice?
Just wing it, and have patience. Unless you have prior game dev experience, you're not going to get the hang of it in a short time, despite the game engine being relatively simple and archaic compared to game engines today.
For some insight about my experience, I started modding Quake 3 all the way back in 2009. Started with making custom player textures, then started making maps, then onto coding by 2013 whilst having ZERO knowledge on programming in general. Started with messing around weapon properties, then player functions, so on and so forth...
For now, the things I could do with Quake 3 are; repurposing existing codes and functions for different purpose, I still have no idea how to create my own chunk of new/original codebase from scratch. Create custom player textures, Create maps, though not in the level/quality of LvLQ3 mappers. I can create weapon models from scratch(currently what I doing for my upcoming mod update), and also edit some sounds.
Now, for some starting resources to get you in the right direction;
Fabien Sanglard's idTech3 rundown: While it won't teach you anything about actually messing with the code, it is a pretty insightfull and comprehensive read on how the game engine operates.

Q3 Focus Programming PDF: This basically was my starting point on messing with Q3's code.

The MD3 Blender plugin: Allows you to import/export Q3 models to Blender. Requires Blender 2.7, as any other versions, especially the newer ones, is not compatible. I'm curently using it on Blender 2.79b

Anyway, welcome to Quake 3 Modding. Good luck on your endeavor.
Ah, fudge, forgot the most important one: Quake 3's source code.

@@CatsOverdrive thank you much.
It seems a little unnecessary to replace the whole BFG for the design in the Doom movie, the original is already iconic with the blue charger. That's ny only complain though, the rest of the weapons are amazing.
Hey thanks.
As for my thing about Quake 3's BFG; I genuinely dislike Q3 BFGs visual on a...spiritual level.
But...
I will reconsider on properly remaking the Q3 BFG if the year passes without any news regarding Nightdive Studios attempting or planning to make an enhancement update to Quake 3.
Does it work in quake live?
I only made it for vanilla Q3A, updated to point release 1.32. Apparently it could be ported to quake live(with some minor tweaks), but I don't have QL so I don't really know what I should do to make it compatible.
