'Quest', 'Night Flight'. 'Recharge the list goes on and on..
The duo was unstoppable, going from strength to strength, culminating in 2001's legendary "Body Rock." The track was the first ever triplet tune with a swing beat, and its innovative production transcended the underground and entered the mainstream, reaching Number 28 in the UK pop charts - an exceptional and rare distinction, particularly for an acoustic drum and bass track with no sign of a catchy vocal.

so, here's my take on this. It's hard to describe how different this tune sounded at the time.
Andy used to end his sets with this and rewind it two or three times, the first time it dropped, you could see people didn't dance... they didn't know what to do. I know there's loads of that clown step or whatever type swing vibe these days, but this was the first one to do it like this.
the second time he played it, you could see people start getting it. then the last rewind and he would start it again.
the crowd would be at frenzy point by the end of it. it sounded totally fresh and so different at the time.
Andy had to educate the crowd to play it, unfortunatley, it paved the way for modern jump up, but this was a turning point in drum and bass.
I was stood next to Andy as he played this in Leeds for the first time, months and months, maybe even a year or so before it came out and i said 'what the fuck is that last tune' and he just showed me a piece of vinyl that said 'Triplets' on it in marker.
Yes mate I saw the "Triplets" and I reckon I heard this the first time he ever played it out in Bar Rumba; I saw him the week before on Saturday and he didn't play it then. I've never seen a tune get the reaction it did in that club is was fucking insane. Everyone was blown away.
Absolutely, it caused a level of excitement and debate in the scene that was hard to describe. Everyone was talking about it, dissecting it, either loving or hating it. Whatever your thoughts on Body Rock, it's a massively important tune in the history of the genre.
Love
First time I heard it I ran through the festival following this sound... I found it. Took me year to figure out the name...
I also own it on wax
My fiance mixes this track all the time - honestly one of my favorite dnb tracks ever.
I recall Andy C dropping this in tiny little club in High Wycombe around 2000 / 2001 and it literally changed the way everyone danced. There was sudden 'bounce' and gyration to everyone that was completely in sync...the girls looked great dancing to this one! It was one of those tracks which had the power to transform the whole vibe of the club.
Tunnel crew
Heard this dropped at Bagley's never fully got my hearing back
Happened out here in the states as well. In Sacramento, we had a club called The Rage that hosted a house night every wed. My buddies got the owners to let us have a jungle room. One of the local djs busted this ojt and the whole room was like a giant tidal wave going up and down at the same time. It was packed, hit , humid, lights were flashing, and the vibe was ultra massive!
The bomb, Notts ❤
Was it the roundabout? Cos I was there and had the same exact experience lol
Brings back so many memories! I had this on white label and I used to mix it with the Missy Elliot - Get Your Freak On acapella. I did this mix a thousand times! 😂😍
Yeah that combo was hitting for sure. Not many tracks mixed well with this 😂 I remember every time somebody tried to mix this with Jungle they forfeited the rest of their set
I'm an trance head, always have been and probably always will be, but I respect other genres massively and this is a blinding bit of deeb. Always loved this tune :-)
This was really different at the time. We loved it in DC. Such a fun track.
still rinsin this tune, more than 10 years later. thats the sign of a true classic
Classic. Ed rush and optical dropped this in Texas during the virus trip. That cover art for the single album is dope
This was the move from grimy jungle to bouncy drum and bass. It was refreshing. And that loop misstep rewind in the middle..... unforgettable.
This tune still gets blasted out in 2019
When this track came out we used to laugh at it a bit, but when it was played at clubs the reaction was amazing. Andy C knows what he's doing.
My bff bought it on vinyl. We decided we hated it, she took it back & then it started playin in all the club's and b4 u know it...... we ran back out n she bought it again!!
Agreed. Regardless of where it sat in the aficionados pile of records, when played mid set there was absolutely nothing that could compare. Absolutely nothing came close at the time. Every set benefitted from this inclusion.
I remember when this track came out it was like marmite, people either loved it or hated it. Personally I like it and still do. It's trippy and that drum pattern is so unique.
was when people started experimenting with triplets in dnb, hence it sounding completely diff to anything out that year
2001 !!!!!
I remember it coming out…. I couldn’t get enough of it on the dance floor but wasn’t so impressive other than in the club
@@TeknoJoe23It also clashed horribly with 3/4 snare jungle tracks of the 90s
stood the test of time and still the number one best banger from our generation, we need big new remixes of this bassline
I remember radio 1 in 2001 airing this (When they played decent music) with Pete Tong and Dave Pierce! What a great tune!
springy basslines and triplet pattern beats, that won anthem status in the clubs.
one of the best ive ever had the pleasures of raving it up to over the years. when it first came out it got caned by every single dj. andy is the boss!
Oh my! Still a banger all these years later!
Andy C!!! The executioner!!! Kills every track!!! Damn I miss my clubbing days. Memories
The birth of clownstep
Supper thankful to come up in the 90s early 2000s in D.C/Baltimore area to be apart of it all. Seeing people basically put drum n bass n the back small room with maybe 1 dj to see the main room being filled with drum n bass DJs
Will never forget hearing it @RAM @THE END .. Andy opening with it , and getting pissed off that no-one got it !! @@
People got it. They just didn't like it. Happy hardcore 2.0 😝
Used to listen to this on my apple iPod
CLaSSiC !!!!! MASSIIIIVE !!!
Was massive back then, triple rewinds!
I remember getting the tube home after a Telepathy rave in Stratford and when the train started moving after each station I thought Bodyrock was playing again.
this is one of the funniest things ive ever read lmao ive been thinking about this comment for like 4 hours now
@@zacharrowood6178 haha brilliant!
This was a good 15 years ago but I can remember it like it was yesterday. Good times 😁
What a tune!
One of the best classics By Andy C.
👌🖤
And Shimon
incriivel !!! tocarei esse 12´´ pelo resto de minha vida !!!!!!
2021 still iconic
It's a crime this doesn't gave more views.
Just listened to the RAM documentary from BBC Radio 1. I had no idea. This was such a banger and game changer back in the day. I'm only 18. I've seen the executioner twice this year. Smashes it as always. Ram is something special. Thank you. Ram Records.
Mate I saw this the night it was first cut to dubplate. Immediately when it came in and the filtered build-up started everyone knew they were witnessing history. It destroyed Bar Rumba in Tottenham Court Road on Thursday. Next night on Friday at (the now defunct) The End, Andy C dropped it at his Ram Records night. Never seen shit like that since.
^^True story
Mate I'm 13 and I'm listening to this 😂
bruh i'm 4 and this shit my jam
@@xskiierx4xlife1 yea, you shit in your jam :p
Set your volume up to the max and enjoy the beautifull sound this record gives you my friends. You will not regret it.
Blessed is the laminator. I've been looking for this for about 5 years. YES YES:)
Shrooming, halloween 2002, Rio Piedras Puerto Rico, most intense trip ever.
First DnB song i ever heard, about 2005 when i was 10 years old. My sister had downloaded it off limewire for some reason, and like fate i heard it and it spawned my love of Jungle mainly for the last 17 years.
I seriously love that transition sound, omg
I grew up on this song. As a dj, I dropped this every chance I could get
Listened to this track first time I dropped a pill, listened to about 100 times that night.Brings back some weird memories, but I fucking love it.
Absolute Classic!
Im so glad they uploaded this one, a classic
I have never seen a drum & bass track get a reaction like this track did, and I have seen a LOT of DnB tracks GO OFF in a LOT of RAVES. You name it - from the dirtiest Dillinja to the nastiest Noisia - none can compare to when this first came out, people were losing their fucking minds. It ruined raves and buried the floor.
imagine andy never released it, he wasnt so sure about body rock
Tuuuuune
I don't give a fuck what naybody says or what the athermath was. This tune is a fucking classic.
BEST EVER. I still play it everyday without fail.
I remember hearing this in a huge mud fest in Texas. Very interesting night.
I remember hearing this at some crazy lil pop up rave in Riverside I think it was 2002/2003ish. Rolling outta my mind and the build drop hits... a couple had these crazy ass light gloves going, the place lost it!!! I couldnt get this chune out my head. Found it like a week later. Still have vinyl copy somewhere in the crates!
Burning CDs for my channel and came across an old Shimon mix from ATM Magazine. Instantly taken back to raving to Body Rock, still a banger.
seen Andy C many times, i remember sikabdi rapping over this, it was imnase
Cool
Can remember andy c dropping this on the thekla Bristol back in the day, everyone was looking at each other like oh this is different but it went off when it dropped lol good old days
Great memories of summer 2001 out raving.
Yesssss such a sick tune
People in clubs were like wtf em when this came out on dub
Hey, it may have inspired a lot of shit to follow, but as far as i'm concerned anyone hating on this track needs to get their head out of their ass. Classic tune!
man that's true
This is the best track they made together i think👌
I totally agree. Important (and refreshingly different at the time (rhythmically speaking,)) tune......, and the inspiring a lot of poo bit.
The boss of all songs.
Classic and The Best!
Oh watch that last step
Brings back memories to my early teens
Sh*t-hot track - nothing else like it!
Awesome tune. Got the OG vinyl still
I just thought back to Andy C dropping this with Signal at Fabric years ago! Total mind fuck! :)
There's so many parts to this track when you break it down, it's a masterpiece of electronic music. The opening sequence of delicate female vocals that haunt the gentle opening of beats, the soft trickle of water in to whispering winds followed by the now famous automated vocals leading in to that compressed staggered beat. The haunting vocals accompany the beat perfectly as the whining amens drop in is sublime. When the track drops at 1:41 your spine was removed by the wobbling bass and chaotic step beats that to this day haven't been replicated to this standard imo. This track paved the way for a fresh taste of DnB to come back in the day. Great track, even greater times. Love and respect. ,
Which amens?
Eu aqui ouvindo essa musica 21 anos depois . Ultima vez que tinha ouvido foi em 2002, quando eu tinha 16 anos. Hoje com 37
oldies but goldies
History.
This really is one of the best produced masterpieces of our century.
SOOO many stories behind it ;)
Yeah!! The first clownstep Track :)
it's awesome
awesome vibe!
lol i used to love this tune, was the "mission" tune lol , still good now!
This tune used to smash the dance up and was something totally different back in summer of 2001 along with Marky LK (instrumental) pushing boundaries unlike todays producers
Got this the day it came out. My version is VINYL. SOUNDS a bit different. I remember the first time and heard this. EPIC!
They dropped this in Stratford Rex one nation and Mickey Mouse was on the laser I’ve never felt such connection before to the whole experience
amo
❤
Still makes me skank out just as hard as it did when I first heard it years ago, fucking tuuuune🔥🔥🔥
one of the top 5 best dnb tunes ever
Absolute monster
Yes yes yes. Big up big C!!
Still banging!
A friend said once a very powerful sentence when I was 13 years:The worse the music sounded to you , the better drugs you are going to get. That was 15 years ago.
I still agree to this , sick and twisted , but I love it
A tune that never sat right with me, my loss I guess
eish, this brings me back!!!

Atomics Maidstone damn I miss that place.. This tune would RAM the Dancefloor in seconds
I'm late to the party and this is magnificent. X
Dj Marky @ Parade of Peace 2002 na rua! Free!
People STILL get upset at even a mention of this tune...thing is they were probably losing it and calling for the rwd just like we all did back then. I personally love it and recall exactly when i heard it the first time. Miami, WMC 2001......crowd went totally bonkers!!!
Love or hate it, the track cannot be denied it's place in the history of this music.
To me it was almost like drum and bass flirting with happy hardcore 😅
@@deanosaur808 LOL I dunno what HH you were listening to that brought you to that conclusion mate. I think i get what you mean...i think😝
nossa, vim parar aqui pelo FERVILLE....ae sim !!!! junglist
my faworits!!!!
Phone speaker does not do this track justice. Nor does not being a pilled up 16 year old.
Sounds like something that 'designandbass' would've made.
Oh my god I completely forgot about that channel! Thank you so much for the nostalgia holy hell
@@edinchez lmao
lots of music like this being produced under swing and bass vibe
This is such a tune when me and my friends get drunk
goodgday
😀
blasted this out my window neighbours wernt too pleased but i was loving it sounds good loud
legendary.. you had to be there when it was first dropped as a white label dub by Andy in DC. People lost it.. so unique.. inventive.. groovy..
this was a pioneering track just cos of the divresity it brought to the tempo and swing. it was a bit of a novelty really, and back then we loved it. its kinda shite though lol
fuckin piece of work! still have it on vinyl.. :)
this is so fuckin dope... andy c is the fuckin man
