nathan van schyndel he does do a really good job with them. It's a lot harder to catch all of your own mistakes than to catch one mistake that someone else made. Considering he's doing these videos by himself and not with an editing team I'd agree it's quality content. He also avoids a lot of the annoying stuff many people put in their videos (long intros/animations, excessive dialogue, and a bunch of other stuff I can't think of at the moment )

You can use Hubble's Law (V=H*d) to determine the distance and then the age, Doppler gave a relation for velocity, H is Hubbler Constant 79km/s/Mpc. Others methods include Cepheids, Parallax (for local A.O.), Radar (for Moon). It's a complex process but not impossible, many variables come into play and observable clues which combined give you the age of your A.O. I must say it's not 100% accurate but it is a start.
