      +Nathaniel Offer "I'm sorry" in this context is more of a figure of speech. He means it like "wait, hold on" like wait, hold on, you're 14? I think people say "I'm sorry" as a way to apologize for asking them to repeat themselves. Like "I'm sorry, what?" But the blame is also on the original post because he didn't use a comma. Yes the comma is a powerful tool and it should be used appropriately. I hope this cleared things up

Seeing you deal with this in the epic way you do, and not being depressed and sad all the time, is one of the greatest things I've ever seen. Kids like us are insecure at the best of times, but you are epic. You should buy a metal straw and you could stick in it a dishwasher, clean it and whenever you need it you can use it just make sure if your in public in a restaurant to take it out before you leave the restaurant just thought it might help because it’s reusable

    • @UnusualMinecrafting
      @UnusualMinecrafting 6 років тому +7

      The production and refining process of the amount of steel required for a single stainless steel straw causes much more damage to the environment than using plastic straws in mass.
      Steel production is much more damaging to the environment, however plastic is the big one people think about because plastic is produced in a much larger quantity. Some plastic straws don't matter too much, but plastic production matters when many pounds of plastic are being distributed to billions of people each year.
      So, unless you're using the same steel straw for 10+ years, each, you're actually harming the environment more than if you were using the plastic straws, which I think is an unrealistic expectation for something like that. A much better thing to do, if you're worried about environmental impact, is using bamboo straws, as long as the producer is replanting.

    How is this possible? I'm not the type of person to watch these types of channels, as most of them are directed at teenage girls and have to do with things that either don't interest me, or are unrelatable to me. But this is just incredible. I know this seems like a strange thing to say, but if I were asked what my greatest fear was, it would probably be losing a limb. Since I was young, I have always been afraid something like that might happen, even if it were just a finger. But I know for a fact that if something like that did happen to me, I would be devastated and lose all will to live. I could never again play the piano for example, and I take that very seriously. That's why just a finger would be bad enough.
    But you... man, this is just unbelievable. I cannot imagine how strong you are for you to accept your situation and make the best of it. I am rarely, if ever, impressed by people's strengths. I think that nowadays, everyone (and no offense, but mostly women) is called "strong", even though it is not earned. But you are unbelievably strong. And don't let anyone ever tell you different. I wish you the very best in life, girl.

      Did I ever say she wasn't great looking? Did I ever say she didn't have a good or great personality? No. Everyone here is effectively saying in summary: " She is beautiful and wonderful in every single possible way" or "I feel sorry for her." Both of which are rather insulting considering that ultimately you are treating her as less then a normal human by giving unfaltering praise or treating her with pity. I did the noble thing and simply gave an honest opinion. An opinion which simply states she would look a lot better if she had arms or legs.

    Re: holding your phone, I used to be really good friends with a girl who had been born with no limbs at all, not even stumps. We went to see the Alamo, and she cruised around the bumpy cobblestone streets of San Antonio for like 5 hours with her phone balanced on her... not even her shoulder, she didn't have shoulders, just her collarbone, and never even came close to dropping it once. I still don't know how she did that, I maintain to this day that she must have been using the Force.
    What about a video of things you can do, that people with all of their limbs can't do? I'm only missing a leg but I have a neat one I can do.

    • @skinnybuddhaboy
      @skinnybuddhaboy 6 років тому +26

      I absolutely agree with your idea of your patient meeting other amputees. Suffering is worse when we feel that we are suffering alone as in, that we are the only one or one of the only one's that this has happened to. I say the same thing for people that have lost loved one's, especially parents that have lost children. When people who have suffered the same thing meet one another, it seems to alleviate a lot of their suffering as they see so many others who are going through the same, and they share their pain together.

    • @NotAnotherKuromi
      @NotAnotherKuromi 6 років тому +12

      I agree with talking to other amputees (they have forums on facebook etc) but if it is only recent I think it is common to be incredibly sad, angry, scared, hopeless etc. My best advice is to start really small, when you loose so much, realizing the tiny things you CAN do can really help.
      think acceptance is key & letting the persons family & friends know that it is common to have a change in personality initially when going through such a traumatic event. Long term support is important too, I don't know what your job is but ensuring they have the relevant physio, OT, any adaptations to their house they need etc, a social worker might be able to help them get in touch with other disabled people however they might need to come to terms with their own disability before talking to other disabled people.
      Communication is key, people are effected differently, some like to talk about the future when they will be more independent & able to do more, some prefer to focus on the now. The important thing is you want to her this person, so just ask them how best to do that, either or options work well.

      kkatlynismyname you dont hurt your teeth and gums just by chewing on them, unfortunately. That would be super easy to avoid. But they can knock against teeth and gums during normal use (especially if you use them whilst focusing on something else, or every use your mouth and tongue to "find" the straw - in other words, most people) and damage enamel and chip teeth. If they slip, they can cause quite bad lacerations to your gum and cheeks.

    It says a lot from you that even if it makes it easier to you to drink with a straw you are thinking about not using them if it’s not extremely necessary because you care of the environment. When I see many people asking for a straw when they buy drinks just bc if they want them. They actually don’t really need them. And I hope it does not sound rude or mean but it’s so lovely really to see how, you that you may need that straw more than them, think more about our planet than other people. Sorry English it’s not my mother tongue in case I had write things wrong. But I try my best. Girl I do really wish you the best in life cause your kind soul deserves it!!!

So we are all just giving her ideas to keep the functionality but ease her from feeling guilty about the straw use. It’s an important thing to talk about and people only mention it out of love and to help. If you’re referring to straws in general. Because they are a huge contributor to waste in the ocean. And people use an extreme amount of plastic straws in their lifetime. Hope that helped.

      Jadey feeling bad about using straws and not using them as much as she wants isn't necessary either. Whoever does dishes could wash the straw and if she happens to wash dishes then great! Maybe she COULD use the brush, it's not wild to think that she could. She's capable of much more than you or I think as it is, it's only a suggestion. No one is forcing her to get a metal straw, chill.

      erika I didn't say that she can't, I just said it's something not really worth her time and I think ur the one who needs to chill all I tried to say is that it's dangerous for bacteria growth?

    did you ever looked into 3d printing for printing like a customisable prosthetics for like brushing hair and stuff?
    Nowadays 3d printers are cheap and you can always get to local makerspace for that

      Matt Mihelich Yes she definitely has the right to use straws whenever she pleases because as she mentions, they help her a lot. It’s really inspiring though to hear her say that she cares about the planet although it means her missing out on a very helpful item. She’s so inspiring!

    You should get a steel straw if you font want to waste plastic! It lasted wayyyyy longer and you could just rinse it out and reuse it!

      Nadia luciia You need to check that attitude being a typical Christian, they were not being ugly with the lass.
      Your puppet master ruler is watching you, not them. Smh.
      I would love to see the day cybernetics are real so others like this gal can be as 'back-to-normal' as they could be. Just need to watch out for Skynet or Ghost In The Shell hackers like Puppet Master.

    I've been watching your videos for a few months, but today was the first day my 4 yr old son saw one of your videos, and he was immediately full of questions, so thank you so much for your educational videos like these. I really appreciate being able to show them to my son, so hopefully he can grow up with a balanced view of disability
