The most solid theory on Roanoke I've ever heard was that the settlers abandoned the colony to live with a native tribe called "Croatoan" (sp?). After the colonists disappeared, the tribe became noted for some members having an eye color that wasn't typical for natives, suggesting they had some European ancestry--the missing Roanoke settlers.
My history teacher actually taught us this.
Yes, I just wish we could have a 1000% yes this is what happened to the lost Roanoke colony. It's been a mystery that has are me up inside since 3rd grade when I learned about it (and I graduated HS in 2005 so 3rd grade was NOT recent).

The Lost Colony is a strange one. They'd made an agreement to carve their whereabouts on a tree if they were to move, and Croatan was a nearby island, but a storm stopped them searching.
TWENTY YEARS then went by before they decided to investigate properly and by then the Croatan tribes were pretty much extinct.
So they didn't so much mysteriously vanish as up and left and no one could get organised enough to track them down again...

And while we're on the subject: "teeth" is a plural noun, so the verb will be plural: "are", not "is", because "is" is the singular verb. This is literally taught in elementary, my dear Stephen.

A logical explanation for Roanoke is hallucinagenic mushrooms. They commonly grow in the area, and if some found their way into their water supply, you'd have a entire town of people tripping balls.
Mayor comes out, also tripping balls, and says they need to go to the forest to fight a dragon, they all follow, no more colony.

They just found a piece of her plane on a island
The pieces of her plane, a woman's compact, a woman's shoe, etc that were found on an island near Earhart Field (where she was supposed to land and refuel. It was specifically built for her circumnavigation trip.) are circumstantial at best.
That said, the group that found them is (last I heard) saving up funds so that they can launch an expedition to possibly find Earhart's Electra plane in the waters around the island and search the island more comprehensively for evidence that Earhart and Noonan were there.
If their evidence does end up fitting, then the story of what happened to Amelia and Frank Noonan is interesting, but terribly sad. According to this theory, there was some kind of mechanical failure and Earhart had to make a rough emergency landing along the beach of this island. Noonan hit his head hard enough to cause significant bleeding and altered his state of mind making him babble in coherently, try taking the radio from Amelia while she tried calling for help, screaming and yelling. Apparently Amelia had a hard time keeping him from hurting himself or Amelia.
Anyway, they made a rough camp on the beach (the plane got too hot during the day to stay in it long. It was like an oven.) and came back to the plane as often as they could to try radioing for help.
Eventually the tide got so high that it pulled the Electra out to sea where it sank.
The island they were on was uninhabited, but did have a decent jungle on it's interior and a shallow lagoon. If this theory is true, Earhart and Noonan survived as best they could on the island, hoping for rescue and likely died of starvation, dehydration or exposure.
Like I said, interesting, but sad. I hate to think that that was the fate of the amazing Amelia Earhart.

Their fate was discovered not long after the end of WW1. They died bravely - advancing into machine gun fire and fighting up to 800 yards behind the Turkish front line, holding a last stand at a farmhouse where some of their remains were later found. One officer survived as a POW and returned to Norfolk after the end of WW1. The rest died fighting.
