As an Ethiopian, I feel it is a film that needs telling of our collective past providing a sense of identity as a country. At a time in which empathy and tolerance is scarce, it is important to have both a subjective and objective understanding of the history of an Emperor who shaped the world as we know it today. "The most effective way to destroy people is to deny and obliterate their own understanding of their history." -George Orwell

Emperor Haile Selassie gave my father an opportunity and blessing that lasted long through generations of our family. There was a program at the time in Ethiopia that he’d send high ranking students abroad to study economics. My father studied at Haile Selassie University, now known as Addis University and went on to received his PhD, eventually a work visa followed by permanent residency through an amnesty program. He became a well respected economist at his university, and globally following some of his publications. My grandma used to tell me great story about king Haileslase. I felt so sad hearing the sister wished not to be from royalty. My family still love King Haileslase and his family. A whole lot of respect to you and your family Princess Yeshi! 💚💛❤️
