    Very rare to interview rock stars as articulate and interesting as these two. I always enjoy Plant’s mischievous sarcastic humour and JPJ’s dry sardonic observations.

    Brilliant interview, Plant is so articulate and his knowledge of modern music second to none. I was at both the Knebworth shows. They were a success but the after taste was perhaps this was the end of an era. The division in the band is obvious from this interview. Robert and JPJ’s were clean of drugs and alcohol, while Page & Bonham were addicts. It would all be over a year later, we can all wonder what might have been had Bonham lived? But I believe they were at a natural crossroads anyhow, Page was pretty much burnt out. Plant went on to do his own thing and is still doing it today.
    Many thanks for finding this gem.

      @@chrishills2427 they might have used dark arts their history seems to bare outside song writing themes and classic improvisation playing with seeming close to music oneñess. But if a group of like minded young men can get together and make emotional art, I think an in depth way we do reach peaks of appreciative masses of like minded people. J J is one of the best interviewer in the history of Disk Jock's.He really knows what to ask & how to approach Jonesy & Robert.Of course there is a trust here because he really was tight w/ Zeppelin.But there is an urgency and awareness to him-He's a fan but yet understood the inner dynamics of Zeppelin n really understood the perception of the music industry & where Zeppelin Role was in the late 70's,which of course brings out deeper evaluation's of how they respond & allows for them to give much more personal takes on there work.It's a great to see how self aware & even brings out there own vulnerabilities.Thank You Mark...

    What is interesting about this period of Zeppelin is how tight Plant and Jones were, they wrote most of ITTOD together, took the bus together to Polar Studios during recording while Bonham and Page were still asleep or wasted. They were the half of the band the least unscathed by drugs/drink at this stage and when I've seen pics of them backstage at Knebworth they were always hanging together. Not surprised they did this interview, Bonham didn't like doing much press and was probably at the pub.

    I’m 62, and because I had an older brother, I loved Cream, Stones, Deep Purple, Bowie, Elton John and Springsteen, plus those I call the old WEA bunch, Warner, Electra andAslyum…Rondstat, CSN & Y, Jesse Winchester, John Prine, etc.m and yes, I knew of Led Zeppelin. Even worked in a record store from 77-82, can remember the hysteria of Elvis and Lennon dying, knew Bingham had died, but have virtually no recollection of that news, or Plants son, but remember playing ITTOD in the store. I’m not lusting over a 1973 Robert Plant and I have 7 grandchildren. WHY didnt I notice him back then??? Now I’m here playing catch-up, but even know, in 2023, asa native Nashvillian back in Nashville, I first thought Plant was pulling my leg when I’d hear him talk of getting to America, because I thought the music revolution started with British rockers coming here, while Plant continuously talks of all the old blues artists here. By now, I believe him, but that’s such as juxtaposition from Plant, the rock God with screaming charisma and sexual innuendo. It still complexes me greatly. But I’m enjoying myself finally putting song titles to songs I’ve been able to sing for 50 years but never knew most of their titles…having never once, unless in the record store, dropped the needle on a Led Zep album, and that wasn’t by choice, but just pushing new albums.

    This is a really good interview. Not the usual b.s. questions they usually get even to this day. I love how they talk about fame in a rational and intelligent way. They way J.J. approaches the question in a way that makes them feel comfortable to open up about it. I love how Robert makes the point once they are off the stage they are no more important than anyone else. Also Jones's point about it is your attitude when people approach you that has an impact on the conversation. Plant says the 3 steps back and 4 forward if you don't put yourself on a cloud and actually develop a rapport with the person or people. Very insightful for us that will never be famous and the things they have to deal with. I think they figured it out. Also you can just see historically that Plant was ready for something different and new. Had Bonham not died I think Zeppelin would have gone through many musical changes along the path that Robert's solo career went. You can just hear that longing in his voice for change. Looking back now out of the 3 surviving members ...it has been Jones's and Plant that have moved on and created something different. Page is very surprising. He did some sound track work which was different ...but mainly he has stayed in the "rock star" genre. I would have thought he would have stretched his wings a bit more. Doing folk ...orchestral ..or whatever. I think it takes time to come to peace with certain things and it probably took Page a lot longer. HE seems in a very good spot now when you hear him in interviews. Be amazing if the 3 of them recorded a couple of folk songs together at some point!!!!

The energy from all 4 of them has not been matched by anyone I have seen before or since. Whatever it was about those 4 individuals I think John Bonham had a lot to do with. His playing and feel drove the band but you needed the virtuosity and discipline of Page and John Paul to mold it. I've always wondered why Robert didn't do movies? I think it was interesting how he talked about his accent and how it wouldn't fit in film, etc.. It reminded me of something Michael Caine said about his accent being a hinderance to him in British films but not so much in America. Judging his answer, I think maybe he's the type of person who has to be emotionally involved in the work he's doing. I also think film, for him, might be restrictive for someone who already has huge personality. Or it could also be, even though he takes the lead in many interviews, he might be an inherently shy person. Anyway, if his heart isn't in it, then he shouldn't do it. Not all rock stars make good actors, Mick Jagger for example. But, there are others, like Bowie, who is pretty much performance artist anyway. It's a fascinating discussion concerning him anyway.

    For some reasons I Love Zeppelin. I drove from home (MD/DC) to NYC for ARMS as one learned how unstable the present is - never mind the past of late re the recent past's Passed Aways. Then, living in Boulder, CO returning to DC/MD to get the 4 TIX on hold to L.AID I had to call the place w/the Tix for last directions & only recently (a few years ago!) did I realize that Guy called the NBC 4 NEWS & said something like 'Hey, if you want a Live AID// DC 'Human Interest' segment, get over here; a Guy's coming to p/up the RAREST Tix to the Biggest International Concert in History for tomorrow up in Philly from across the Country right now - just called & enroute.
    My Friend had picked me up, went to their place, dropped stuff off, called that place for last directions & went.
    Pulling in & getting out - a SAT DISH was up on a van & 'Hey, You wanna be on...The NEWS ?' "AFTER I GET MY TICKETS, OKAY." You talk the political spin with him; I'm getting those Tickets! Done & done. Be careful what you sign! I said "Look- I came from Boulder, CO for this (re L.AID obviously)."' 'Really?' "Are you kidding me‽ A Led Zeppelin Reunion! I wouldn't miss this for the World!" As if my dignity was questioned, somberly & fully dedicated to attend this one Reunion show. Maybe scary to some.. 'Well, that's.......' "I wouldn't miss this (The Zep Reunion; I'd probably seen the other ones that mattered to Me if they were Touring that Year by then already) for the World." Sworn with 4 big, beautiful colorful Tix- like ARMS was: for the fastest entry, but to Philly's JFK Stadium in mid-July, '85 on the 6:30 pm NBC4 News but I'm edited out of my mentioning of Led Zeppelin so I sounded like a good 'We Are The World' supporter or Top 40 "fan" of everything or something - maybe a person who called in & a DJ picked up the phone on my ring count & not one of the furthest Fans for a single Band that was announced in advance & was taping the first words from Chevy Chase & through the Day w/ plenty of batteries & tapes & my Sony D6c Pro-quality, clandestine deck. Who knew what MTV was going to screw up (or Phil Colons). I know Tony Thompson was furious & the JCM Gent does great stuff but he's in 💞 w/that troll. I think it could be a Law in the UK not to damage someone's reputation as slander or defamation of character or they can sue you for said defamation - even if it's true. Tony was nowhere near after the set because he'd probably have been arrested for assault & battery. Having to try to Teach him the various intricate parts of this & that as MTV has been taping & YT has it from the back Left side of Colons until he gets to realize -'This fool does not have any idea how to play anything we're doing & he's torpedoed the entire thing! I need to focus & TRY TO drown him out & play them correctly. Unbelievable! Phil needed an accident.
    Tony should have yelled at him to get off the fkg stage or sat there- yelling at Page -'HE DOESN'T EVEN KNOW THE PARTS! HIM OR ME?
    I hate extremely rich Stars: Actors or Musicians w/so much money their presence is considered a donation (or Deductible as a Taxed Donation)! What was HE worth vs Tony &/or Jason for 3 well known Songs- not shattered Music he didn't want to know & recently said "If it wasn't for that, it'd have been (re his fault) for something else"-‽ Not if he knew what he was doing up there! Inexcusable, unforgettable, unlistenable & so sadly unusable. Did he donate 1 dime to Live AID? NO. He was 'there' & made $90 Million/Solo Tours in that era! Share it‽ Greed✓, Ego❤️‍🩹 , Donated $∅ & £0 , Avarice-✔️ "I thought it was all just for a laugh." Sure scooter- funniest joke was on Africa & they can't stop laughing you're so funny- not to mention the merch futures on ZEPPELIN you torpedoed. What a hoot!

      Bullseye. Its pretty clear from the outtakes from the remasters, the vocals were much higher in the original mix....so Jimmy had to deliberately bury them in the album. It was a conscious decision to do that. Spot-on comment.

    When the interviewer talks about the film Barry Lyndon at 31:25 he speculates that if Robert Plant had been in the lead role the film would have been more successful, but I think Barry Lyndon is a very boring film and that's why it was maybe not too successful. The best aspects of it were the cinematography, the scenery, the costumes and the music. Robert talks about his accent preventing him from possibly doing theatre and how Roger Daltrey advised him to have elocution lessons, but I am sad that these days he seems to have lost his Midlands accent anyway. His accent here reminds me of my brother who died in 2018. I think Robert is right in his assessment of what he's best at though and those are the things he most enjoys too. I've never heard such a long interview just with Plant and Jonesy and with them sounding so relaxed and at their ease.

    • @EuphoriaPiana
      @EuphoriaPiana 3 роки тому

      Robert's accent sounds muddled, like he had spent much of his early life bouncing around England, which wouldn't really surprise me. 🤔

    • @heliotropezzz333
      @heliotropezzz333 2 роки тому +1

      @@EuphoriaPiana If you come from the Midlands of England, you recognise those elements of his accent immediately and here his vowel sounds reflect his Midlands origins. It's softer than if he'd stayed there and never lived elsewhere, but it's still there at this time. It's also there in his pronunciation of his own name as Plant (short a) and not Plarnt (long a). I don't think he's ever changed that.

    well ofcoarse Zeppelin isnt gonna grasp there impact the same way as Zeppelin thinks of the Beatles impact. Beatles were there heros & zEPPELIN IS OURS, so theres no way to make Robert understand other than make a comparison to the beatles. Its not whos better than who, its who they are......to the fans.

    He must have been assimilating. They say when in Rome.

    As articulate as Plant is, I think he was too superficial on describing the songs on ITTOD. He sounds like some ordinary one-off listener telling a neighbour what he's just listened while washing the car.

    Wouldn’t you say that Plant’s started to sound board of things with Zep? Page was not terribly into all of my Love, know some of plants, musical directions and influences. Also, if he doesn’t let the poor guy plant pick up a guitar occasionally and do a bit of rhythm. It’s a very controlling environment.
    I’ve been bored and constrained for so long, it’s not true … wanted a super band, never bargained for you. Lots of people talking few of them know, that Robert plant is leaving to start his own show … yeah
