Tablet Weaving is a very old technique also used by the Vikings to make their belts or cloth decorations. Great to see you introducing this weaving method.
      Cheers Uwe

I just looked up some patterns, it is really amazing what can be made with this. I had no idea it was done like this. Nice video, cant wait for more.

You would find a wider hip strap more comfortable, but the paracord is a great idea to weave that strap. Also for most people moving the strap from the waist down further around the hips (or so you are more or less sitting on it if you are sitting) will be easier on your back. Lots of fun in weaving. I am glad to see you do this series, introduces weaving concepts to an audience that might not other wise see them.

Great new video Dave. The end gave me an idea. You should put together a blooper reel from your videos. I know a number of your fans would like to see more of your comical side.

I forgot to comment when I initially watched this but this would be a fantastic educational tool for weaving in general as well. Great video

Is what your doing also called Macroma (spelling)? When I was in the Navy on board ship back in the 70's.There was an old timer Bos'n Mate that would do as you are doing and also would take any cotton cloth. (working with the cloth remove all the South West strands and weave the North South strands) making the most beautiful woven pieces. He taught me the basic of Macrome' and I still use it to this day. Great video keep up with this lost art stuff. We need someone like you to re-learn us up on all this lost art of self reliance. Thank for this video.

Thanks for that video Dave. I'm going to try that. I just weaved a strap for my trapping rifle last night using a similar system only with out the cards.

My sister does tablet weave, she got pretty good at it, however look it up on Google, there are some very talented people out there, just saw one pattern of a hand with a heart in the middle and another with deer .

I'm sure you could notch the edge of each card a different number of times and weave to a pattern a bit like a music score if you know what I mean. I'm really interested in the simplicity of the design but the potential complexity of the end product. You could also start on a belt buckle and make a neat belt. I think this might keep me out of trouble on a wet weekend:-)

Dave, how about a sheath with a socket area for a bow drill on it? It seems like it would be very possible to include something like that on a kydex sheath (maybe a metal insert somewhere on it or if the kydex itself would work).
P.S.- What happened at the end?

You could use some kind of clamp on the stick at your waste if you were making something of considerable length. Perhaps two squared dowels with bolts and wing nuts. It just seems that if your rolling in sticks every foot or so you'd end up with a big bundle by the end. Also, you wouldn't have to hassle with the knot along the way.

Dave, looks like you use alot of rope/coverage etc. Where do you find it for a reasonable price and how many feet do you start with....looked about 30 of each strand? Inspiring work and comments, ive been lamenting the lack of a strap on my 22. Tried a few, but just ended up giving them away. This looks like a great project.

Very common in Medieval Europe. Dave mentioned a few times "Very intricate patterns"... This is a modern example of tablet/card weaving.

Thanks for that, I'm wondering how come my mother never tried Tablet Weaving back when she was in the Spinning & Weaving phase...; she got fairly fanatical about it all, even to the point of boiling up Seaweed or Onion-Skins to dye the homespun wool Green and Yellow before weaving the Lounge-Room curtains...
Sometimes it was like growing up in a timewarp...
      ;-p
      Ciao !

Man, I can tie scores, probably well over a hundred knots in proper application, and have done all kinds of splicing. Have made all kinds of Paracord and Bankline products. I'm not quite what I used to be though, but I need to learn weaving, including baskets. Not saying I can't weave a basket, just don't think I'd be very good at it, and I need to actually practice these things properly and build useful objects of art for myself while increasing my abilities. I have to get myself regularly completing projects of building things while establishing new skills and ability with production. That will make me better, far more powerful, and I'll have more cool shit, like an Otzi dagger. I got nothing to do right now but practice martial arts and bushcraft in the woods each day with my dog, and in my apartment. Not being married and no kids I know of is great. I got some disabilities, but nothing major, so I'm really trying to make a come back in everyway. Not so I can waste my life and body and spirit painfully working for other's dreams though. I'm not a slave anymore, so I can sit down or quit or not even begin, on any day or minute I need to, or am so pleased. Hopefully I can do real well, because I know shit can get bad and jam me painfully, frustrate the fuck outta me, but I try to do stuff that ties in, makes me stronger and everything easier.

I have had a nice Birch Bark Sheath gifted to me by Darrin Baird, after he was at Mors's Class last winter, I never liked a knife in it because it just felt awkward, however the new Jeff White spear point we are carrying fits it real nice. Not a fan of things around my neck in the woods but I figure the leather cord and the bark sheath will give against my weight for sure, tied a classic Canadian Jam in the lanyard and wrapped the handle in about 12" of the same leather cord. I like it, and it will come in handy for skinning as well I am sure. Blade, Fire Tinder, and Bow Drill Cord all wrapped into one-
