Moto X was my first phone. Such a great phone. Such a great review. All of these new flagships are amazing, But I just want an updated Moto X 1st gen. Same screen and size, just better processor and camera. I would be the happiest guy on earth.
If only Google still owned Motorola mobility. More generally speaking this is just not the design philosophy even with Google now. Although this performance wise shows that you don't need a top notch spec on a device to be able to keep up.
It's actually nostalgic for me to re-watch this video 😂. It was my first time going through multiple reviews before buying a phone and this was the first one. I loved this phone, it had the perfect design and lasted for over 3 years and it was beautiful, infact I kinda regret selling it 😅
aside from the fact that you used great music for this video (love electronic music) you pretty much made me decide that I want to the moto X. i've been conflicted between the iphone 5c, samsung galaxy 4 and moto x. Thank you for being the deciding factor!! :)
This phone is my first phone. I've had this phone for about 2 years now I believe. One thing I like is when it tells me if I have used too much storage. It warns me about it not functioning properly when most of the storage is use. As I type this, I am using the Moto X. It truly is an incredible phone. I dropped it a few times and not a scratch. It feels well and handles well. Some times it gets hot but I know I'm using it to much. It's just perfect all around. I do wish I could replace the cameras though. Sometimes I don't get the best quality out of it but it's still great.
Nice review MKBHD, honestly, I still like my moto x, there was a camera update and I have never had a problem with the camera even before the update but the update helped the camera quality somehow, and I have always loved my moto x. It's a great phone 🙂👍🏻
I started watching this guy’s videos when this phone was launched and I was really thinking of getting it because of this review; I don’t even remember how many subs he had at this time but man he’s come so far; from 2013 until now I have never been disappointed with his videos
Great review! I'm so excited to get mine tomorrow. I'm def not a new Android user. I've had both Android and iPhone--most recent phones have been Android though. I've actually used the Moto G, when I was looking to cheaply replace a galaxy s3 I was using on a no contract company. I actually could have gotten a number of higher, top end phones, but there are just some features I really love about the Moto X that made me OK with sacrificing things like top performance. For one, I know you said how geeks will go for the larger screen. I can see this, too. The phone I have now is 5 inches, and there are times where that is really nice. But honestly, being a girl I have such tiny hands that once you get to that size of a screen it's no longer comfortable and easy to use the phone. All I have thought about is how much better the Moto G phone had felt in my hand. Not just the size, too; like you said the back of it just feels way better to the touch than most others. The long battery is also something I enjoyed so, so much. The memory size? Not so much for the G. I quickly picked it up because I am limited on how much I want to spend on a phone, but the G is literally almost impossible to use if you ever really are a true smartphone user. The Moto X I am now getting will have 32 GB--so it will be fine in that department. I love the always listening part. You also forgot to mention that you can use it to do things than just simply ask it a question. All and all I am so excited for this phone. It has the features I really like--comfortable size, custom design, Google Now, high memory, but still phone that performs decently. I've been nervous that wouldn't be quite good enough to justify the other features I like, but I feel much better after seeing your review!
Yeah... I agree. The Nexus not coming to Verizon was an EPIC disappointment. I dont know who the hell makes these horrible decisions. I remember when Verizon passed up the Samsung Galaxy SII when it released. Instead of getting its own version of it, they focused on pushing their Droid line. Which I think is mostly crap. Sure they do alright, but they're nothing special..... Seems like Verizon makes a habit of passing up good quality devices....
its a great phone it really is my mom has one from my recommendation and she is a really heavy user, she has never had a problem with the battery and she fell in love with the voice features with google now, it is probably the closest you can get to the nexus 5 experience without switching providers
Edwin Alegria I tried to mirror my Galaxy S4 Mini as close to a Nexus without downloading launchers and things like that, but Touchwiz is just very very not great but the KitKat overhaul made it so much better to look at. I may be getting a Nexus 7 so yay
This review influenced my decision to get Moto X as upgrade to iPhone 4 March 2014 loved the similar form factor and significantly improved performance. Only disappointment has been single back-facing speaker I find myself cupping my hand behind the phone to reflect the sound or putting headphones on, streaming to Chromecast seems the best workaround. I really appreciate your organized, well thought-out reviews.

You say you 'spent a lot of time preparing this review.' It shows, and I'm subscribing to your channel, as you seem to be one of the best consumer tech reviewers on UA-cam. Thorough, rational, with great production values that accentuate what you have to say. I have the Moto X, and coming from Samsung Galaxy World it seemed like it would be a compromise from everything I read; not even close. The Galaxy seems like more of a festival of plastic compared to this. This is a great phone, and with KitKat 4.4 like mine, it is the class of the Androids. Thanks for your great review. Always good to see a brother with his 'A' game.

They need to remake this. I still have mine now as a backup. I messaged Motorola to propose the idea of making it same sized but with more updated specs. Hell, even a midrange chip will do. I know the S4 Pro was outdated when this phone was released and I still used it from 2013-2017. Put even just a SD 625 or 835 and it'll be good till 2023/2025 for me.
Great video! Told me everything I needed to know, and was responsible for me buying a Moto X yesterday. I love it and am now the envy of all my friends, lol! Thanks for the straightforward info and really appealing presentation.
I remember my mom buying me a Moto E for $50 on Christmas 2015 and then it went to my Dad and I got this Moto X for about $100 in January-February 2016 and then the X went to my mom and I got the X 2nd Generation for about $130 in October of 2016. I used it 8th grade and 9th grade. Eventually I moved to California from Colorado and my parents gave me an iPhone 6s for $200 in September 2018. Then my 6s went to one of my younger twin brothers, my other younger twin brother also got his own 6s for the same price, and I got the 6s Plus for also $200 in December 2018. My mom then bought herself a 6s Plus for $200 and my Dad bought a Samsung Galaxy J2 for about $80 as he isn’t on social media as much. He loves UA-cam and music so it fits perfectly for him. My sister continues to be phone-less as she’s not at a proper age yet. Fast forward to October 2019 and I was able to finally legally work and I did and bought myself an iPhone Xr for $400. It was $300 on my part but my mom received my 6s Plus as the extra “$100” trade off so she can send it to a relative in Mexico. What a journey for us.

4. Bottom From Facing Speaker (MotoX 2014, HTC Boom Sound Style!)
5. Custom LED Looks I really like the LED Ring that Surrounds the Camera
6. Bigger Sensor with Lower MP Count aka sub 45mp (Lumia 1020 like!) While more Pixels get more details this is only true if each pixel gets enough light!
7. Xeon Flash (keep LED they can be used in Tandem or just for Flashlight!)
Things that was rarely if never done but should
1. IR Flash for more Details
2. Magnetic Charging (Think Moto Mod Style but!) instead of QI Charging
3. Moto Mods by far the best Modular System
4. Plastic Screen Phones especially for Kids and Elderly aimed devices (They could just use a Plastic Film Screen Protector to stop Permanente Scratches!)
5. Metal Uni-Body instead of Fixed Glass Backs (especially if they won't bring back easy to remove backs which can be made of Plastic, Glass or Metal etc and still be IP Rated!)
Marques....escellent review. You were spot on! Keep up the good work!
Just got my Moto X yesterday and i'm loving it so far.
just ordered mine yesterday. I cant wait
Thanks MKBHD..:-) your reviews are superb.
Your review is one of the reasons why I purchased this phone :) Great review man.
I've been using this phone for 2 years now! It's a REALLY good phone! I love it!
Love your videos. Always lots of info and interesting.
