I was privileged to be in RAK studios on the day Steve mixed In a Big Country and did some pictures of the band along with Steve flicking me a V sign 😂😉👍📸
😳😳 I cannot BELIEVE how few views and comments this fantastic conversation has had!
Steve Lilywhite has shaped SO much of the music we have ALL listened to in one way or another for DECADES.
He is one of only about ten people who have brought us the overwhelming majority of the music that has shaped our culture for FOUR DECADES! He certainly has for me and most of the people I know.
Dear lord, what more can you ask for?
Andrew was the perfect host on the other end.
Just perfect. 👍❤️👍
Can we have Steve interview Andrew ?, that would be a fun show.
Finally someone’s with me! I HATE those guitars chugging in quarter or eight notes on choruses! Thanks Steve Lillywhite!
This is my second go round of watching the same interviews, with all that’s happening in the world I find a lot of comfort and familiarity with Mr. Steve. lilywhite he’s exactly like the producers I knew when I started out in the 80s… It was joy it was fun and a lot of work but the irreverent fun and buoyancy of Steve Lilywhite is something I go back to..
Thank you for sharing your story on here CatValley Records!!
This man is a genius, he comes on Puremix and ends saying that there's no need for mixers! I love his attitude. :-)
Steve is really rock n roll !! 🤘😎 🤘
"Sparkle In The Rain" is an amazing album that Steve should be so proud of: Waterfront, Speed Your Love To Me, Street Hassle - the whole album is amazing! Big Country's reissue has versions from other producers, and you can really hear the brilliance of Steve's production vs the other producers.
Highly recommend Steve's stand up show "Big Ears". Hope it can go on the road soon.
Thanks for the discussion, guys! Looking forward to "part 5"!
A quick thank you to Andrew and his guests and Pure Mix. I have so enjoyed these talks this year - ALL of them! I get so much insight and I believe it pays of for me in audio production, not in any technical sense, but in something indefinable. I'm watching as many as I can again. My only concern being that, one gets better by doing, not only listening, and the time taken to watch a full video can get in the way of doing, but they are so good, so revealing and so captivating. I look forward to these talks resuming in the new year. Thank you
Thank you for the kind words! Plenty of new AWESOME guests next year so keep you eyes peeled!! best wishes
best interview of all time
1:38:33 Steve was right on this one. The whiz bangs were largely Trevor Horn's work. On the demo they were played on a Minimoog. Also no-one liked Trevor's snare drum sound but it mixed well with Chris Squire's bass which had a built-in chip phasing the low end. FACTS
I enjoyed the first one & enjoyed this one just as much. You two have a terrific repoire! P.S I listened all the way to the end! 😁
Thank you for the feedback BeatleDave!!!
These two guys together are gold! looking forward to part 3 :) And as others suggested as well, it would be cool if Steve actually interviewed Andrew some future episode.
Thank you for the kind words !
You mean part 5? ;)
Loved this
In Big Country is my fave song ever!
Steve is very interesting, and a Q and A ,would be great!!! Scheps, of course, is a great captain.......(and yes,I have used the odd "lillywhite", preset.) all the best you .
VSO is on REAPER!!
Reaper has had normal tape machine style vari-speed of + or - 50% right smack on the front page!
It has been there for years.
So I ALWAYS keep a copy of Reaper on my computer for this reason
fascinating
My favourite producer as well, Trevor Horn
lol! I'm loving this interview so much!
Hey thank you for your feedback
Part 3 plesse.
That was amazing!!!!
Thanks for your feedback !
Steve Lillywhite is so much fun, his irreverence is a great way to relax and learn.
The only problem with these interviews is it's costing me a fortune in CDs (which isn't even remotely a problem!)
Can I put a cheeky request in for Bob Power?
Matt Serletic is Matchbox 20's producer.
What was the album Andrew recommended? Alan someone?
Another great cover version that exceeds the original.
"Ocean Breathes Salty"
Sun Kil Moon's version is far superior to Modest Mouse's original... and I love Modest Mouse.
Comus!!Fuck yeah
The new "Alice Hughhanes" Record ? AHA got it: Alain Johannes
I was talking to pal of mine about this (part 2) interview; "Great , what's he up to these days?"
"He's working for KFC in Indonesia "
"Fuck me, he's hit the skids eh?"
🤣🤣
Brilliant stuff Andrew x
haha... don't come to Indonesia... nothing to see here. ;-)
Steve Lillywhite should work with Alain Johannes and his Chilean band + guests
A&R make an album the way that casting directors make a film.
What a lovely guy. Also lonely, you can tell.
Starts at 5:55 ......aaaaand the audio works at 8:38 😂👍
bless you ☺️
Mr Lillywhite should be a co-host.. Not the backup talent!!
Andrew’s voice is almost twice as loud... Bummer
The calculating fender macroscopically bruise because numeric gratifyingly peck up a rampant ankle. eight, windy theory
