Then again, this game has the very first Ridley fight in the Metroid storyline and he thought he was such a badass when he came to the arena late. It was a nice introduction, where Samus turns around after realizing that the hatch won't open and is like "Wha-", but at the same time quite underwhelming when you know you can kill Ridley with just around 4-6 super missiles. Some of my favourites are:
-Asgore (Undertale): The music starts low, making a description of the enviroment, and after that is done, Asgore literally breaks the fourth wall and just destroys the Spare button, like yeah, that's aparently a thing.
-Moon Lord (Terraria): After dealing with all 4 pillars (Also known as Santana, Esidisi, Whammu and Kars), it says "Impending Doom is aproaching", then you notice that music is gone, and there is a slight fade in and fade out that, as time goes on, it keeps increasing in intensity and frequence until the screen flashes, the sky goes black, and Cthulhu's brother (Not kidding, that's terraria's lore) appears for one last showdown (except that you are going to rebattle him cause he dropped a celebration)
-The main legendary pokemon from gen 4 and 5 (Pokemon, duh): In Giratina's case: You don't even see it clearly at first, heck, it wasn't even supossed to show up in the first place, then you see how it extends it's wings and covers the entire screen, then all you see is a portal to a void devoid of physics, or any life aside from Cynthia, the lake trio, Giratin... ok, there are some life, but not as much as in the normal world, and after you beat Cyrus' ass for the last time, you go foward and face Giratina (and then end the battle with a masterball, cause that ball was made for something, ya know?)
Then we have gen 2's remakes, specially Ho-Oh, since I can't remember Lugia (I own Heart Gold), after you finish climbing the tower, the music dissapears and you see the kimono girls that you met over the game, ready for the sacrif- I mean, ritual, the dance syncronized with the bell and then, from the sky you see a spark, and you see in Ho-Oh's perspective how it's flying around the tower while the music of the ritual reaches it's climax, and then when it lands, it's time to end it (with a masterball, duh)
Last we have BW2, with Kyurem, you see the main villain from BW, which for him, being alive it's quite the feat, and then prepares Kyurem to use "Kill Child" against you, which, gotta say, it's super effective, but then N comes in with the legendary box pokemon and saves the day... except that he fell into his trap and then Kyurem fuses with whatever the pokemon was and see him transform into Kyurem-whatever (sadly you can't end this with a masterball, -519/10)
-Magolor's soul (Kirby: Return to Dream Land): After you beat both the ship (the very thing you were working on for the entirety of the game, that's a low blow), and Magolor, you would think that's it, the screen turns white and everything is over, ain't it? Then C-R-O-W-N-E-D plays while you see the crown emanating a dark aura, then you see an eye coming from that aura, and then it turns into a smile, whose eye is said eyeball, which doesn't make that smile much friendly, at least in my opinion (also shotouts to the ending, where you finish him with every single EX ablility)

Protecting an egg. Ugh. Reminds me of Legacy Of Goku 2 when you have to relocate the dinosaur's eggs while avoiding the normally easily dealt with enemies. You basically have to use Vegeta to do it because he's the only playable character who can turn Super Saiyan yet (in other words the fastest character at that point). I remember that part drove me nuts as a kid. You could use Gohan or Piccolo too, but since they can't turn Super Saiyan (or Super Namekian) yet, the timing is difficult to get right. Slipping past the patrolling enemies with them is not easy since they will start to move towards you once you're within a certain distance. And since you're carrying these incredibly fragile eggs, you cannot fight back. I hated this section when I was a kid, but now that I'm older and smarter, I can get through it without getting frustrated. It's still a little annoying that you have to turn Super Saiyan BEFORE picking up the egg, since picking up the egg disables attack commands including the Super Saiyan transformation.

My personal favorites are the super bosses from Octopath Traveler.
Throughout the game, you'll find 8 shrines. The gods of the realm reside at these shrines, and when you visit them, they'll give you access to the 8 different classes as subclasses for further customization options. However, once you reach the Chapter 4 areas, you'll find 4 more shrines, named Archmagus, Starseer, Runelord, and Warmaster. They actually have a danger level, of level 50 (the Chapter 4 recommendations are level 45), and are actually dungeon length. At the actual shrines, you'll encounter 4 gods previously unmentioned anywhere in the game. Then, when you think you're getting a new subclass, you're hit with this:
"Thou wish to seek the secrets I hold? Then thou must prove thy worth!"
You're then prompted to leave or approach. Choose to approach and you engage that god in a battle. They have a unique battle theme, fittingly named "They Who Govern Reason", which is spine-chilling to me. And all this buildup is well-warranted, without proper setup, they will effortlessly wipe the floor with your party.
Yeah, with the right setup, they're easily exploitable, but trying to fight them normally is a *huge* challenge to say the least. And your reward? Access to what I dub the "God Subclasses", which provide the strongest sets of skills in the whole game.
Overall, the buildup and battle against these 4 gods is one of the biggest highlights of the game for me.

    Some of my favourites:
White Fatalis in monster hunter 4. Regarded as the all father of elder dragons you would expect he has an epic aura oozing off him at all times, and his intro serves that in spades. After walking to the very peak of a ruined fortress, the ambiance is quite. That is until you look up and see a solar eclipse, the moon moving to block the sun. Once it’s complete, all of the sudden the sky around it turns into a storm in an instant, and from the eclipse comes flying out the white dragon himself. Displaying some of his power before flying down to touch the ground in front of you. The music kicks in, it’s time for the hunt to begin.p
Magus from Crono Trigger: “Once again the bitter black winds begins to howl...” the flames lights up, the music starts up, and the amplified once he flings his cape open.
Omega Flowey, even if you don’t enjoy the game...come on, you can’t say that intro doesn’t leave a good impression.
Bonus points to Hollow Knight: Boss comes out onto the scene, you get a name and title as they roar/shout a battle cry....say it with me. DUUUUUUUUUNG, DEEEEEFEEEEEEEENDER!”

Throughout the game, you receive your powers by rescuing the celestial brush gods by filling in the missing stars from the constellations they reside in. Ninetails fancies herself as more powerful than the gods, so she herself takes the form of a constellation that you must complete to begin the fight with her. The ominous bell chime when you do so really cinches it for me.

Tyler L I prefer Seymour flux as it shows you just how far Seymour is willing to go if he isn’t stopped. He nearly drives the rhonso to extinction and you can truly hear the madness in his voice. In addition you find out that Seymour knows knowledge that you thought only the main character and auron know. This intro let’s you know that only you have the power to oppose Seymour’s grand might as all the rhonso in the area who are all grand warriors didn’t even slow him down enough for you to get off the mountain. It also shows that Seymour isn’t afraid to kill anyone in his path and that if you fail to stop him he might actually achieve his goal of becoming sin and with his already great power over pyreflies due to him being a guado the even greater power because of being an unsent and his great magic him controlling sin would be unstoppable and would cause all of spira to die ending the spiral of death with one mass extinction. And then he becomes Seymour flux right before your eyes showing you just how powerful he has gotten and that he can now fly meaning there is no escaping him. Many people probably quit at this point as it is a massive difficulty spike.

The intro for the giratina battle is pretty unnerving. But hell the reveal is just nightmare fuel. Literally taking down Cyrus' basically completed plan as he had both diagla and palkia under his control and suddenly this huge shadowy mass just forms behind him, with a distorted tune playing, Cyrus being absolutely clueless and it all ending in a literal jumpscare.

Basically every Kirby final boss introduction has something going for it. Even Dark Nebula, the lamest final boss of the main series, has a great introduction with a really serene stage without too much going on while you chase the little dark star, then the fight begins in a really beautiful setting, shame the boss sucks so much.
My favorite one, however, is Drawcia from Kirby Canvas Curse. After tons of beautiful colorful and atmospheric stages, stopping to fight summons by the witch herself in some goofy minigames after each world, you arrive on World 7: Wonder Lilane, where the final 3 stages are. Starting tamely-- Frozen Fantasy - is pretty much a maze: not the first ice stage you meet and only a mildly depressing background music to keep on your head. Then you move out to the second one: Mad Mechanism. Things are suddenly dead. A robotic and mostly monochromatic stage with a chaotic song playing in the background. Apart from the difficulty itself, however, you move on without much notice, again, then you go to the 3rd stage of the world and... Spectacle.. Space? I mean, things are HECTIC, but were you really expecting that?. It's so much chaotic stuff going on, the visuals are really different from everything else from the game and the song is a really weird, but not quite terrifying remix of a final boss from a past game. Things are progressing in a weird, wavy way. Peaking in chaos, then dropping down to calm and chill, you basically don't really expect anything consistent anymore from what lies ahead, but then-- You unlock the final world: World of Drawcia. Every world in the world select screen until then was based on a color, but this one doesn't have one. Well, it looks like some kind of colorful but dark place of sorts, but you enter it and...
Every happy, energetic, melancholic, warm, cheerful and even chaotic aspects are suddenly gone, as you find yourself in a tasteless dark world adorned with out-of-place rainbow textures everywhere, not colors that bring life, however, they seem to only make everything look way more plastic and dead with the way they are structured around the stage. Then you have the music: arguably the most disturbing Kirby theme ever, with a loud string in the background that keeps hitting your ears in an almost painful way while you follow the disturbing melody. The stage layout itself is also really dead. You have no enemies anywhere, only spikes to deal damage and bottomless pits. Once you reach a point in the stage, you come across some blank frames that pop some creepy faces with a grim, all of them always looking straight at you all the time. You can drop them off-screen with the stylus if you want, but doing so just makes your presence there even more alone.
After you climb through a vertical pass filled with spikes on the walls and creepy frames on the way, you arrive at the final canvas: The one that leads to the witch. Merely going through it brings dread to one's heart, as the frames around all look down at the same time as Kirby rolls into the final portal.
All the darkness goes away, being vanished by a blindingly bright white background, where both Kirby and Drawcia descend to a dark yet rainbow-colored ground that is still appearing. With a sinister, but very fitting song playing, the witch finally reveals hear true appearance, as the white background gets corrupted with rippling paint and the lifebar-filling sound strikes in.
TLDR: Paintings are cooler than reality-warp.

Another good one is the final boss Providence in Bravely Second. Fitting the "fourth wall breaking" theme the game sets for itself, having the second phase begin as a random encounter when leaving the area (leaving one utterly confused at the apparent lack of a second phase after finishing the first) was a total system shocker, cuz you assume it's over after you gain control over your characters and are allowed to leave.

One of my favorite final boss intros has to be Exdeath from Final Fantasy V.
After a fake-out final boss, come on his castle and boss fight had "Finale!" written all over it, we encounter him again in the final dungeon, The Interdimensional Rift.
Exdeath commands the Void by changing into his true form, a Demonic Tree. And he is ugly!
Beat him up and the game itself tells you that it's about to get worse.
    "Exdeath was swallowed....
    By the Void!"
And Neo-Exdeath slowly makes the scene...an amalgamation of many different monsters smashed together in a single monstrosity!
Before he arrives, he gives you a chilling message.

Favourite boss intros? Yeah, there are a lot of them and most of them are the same as the other guys' favourites. But there are actually 2 boss intros that are really interesting for me, in a game called Terraria. It is similar to Minecraft in terms of gameplay, but has lores and more interesting to play imo.
-The first one is one of the two endgame bosses of Terraria: Lunatic Cultist. Simply, you kill 4 cultists that worship a tablet that has the image of a dark god and a mysterious man emerges all in a sudden. He drains the power of that tablet, starts ascending to the sky and does a demented laugh. Brought the chills to my spine the first time I saw it.
    - Also, the second one is Moon Lord, the final boss of Terraria. After you beat the Lunatic Cultist, four Lunar Towers emerge in your world and you have to kill them. After killing the final one, you see a message saying *"Impending doom approaches..."* and as time passes, the screen starts to distort into a darker shade of grey. This happens four times. When it happens consecutively, the music ingame starts to lower by itself. After the third distortion, the music stops. And after the 4th one, a white flash appears as Moon Lord appears with a feral scream. Really scary and chilly the first time you see it.

My favorite boss intro in recent memory has to be Hyness from Star Allies. The creepy music, unsettling movements of the hooded figure, and the batshit insane monologue are all amazing at building unease. He stares directly into the camera for the first half of the fight, and once you knock his hood off, BAM! The music kicks into overdrive as his horrifying yet goofy scream shakes the screen. What’s more is he drains the life of his unconscious minions, using their lifeless bodies as weapons. Another of my favorites comes from the same game, in the form Astral Birth: Void’s splash screen. Comparing it to the initial final bosses’ intro and the soul melter intro, something about this last one just stands out (mainly if you are aware of the Kirby lore). That and Void’s death animation still give me goosebumps today.

Gasp! I’ve never actually finished sonic adventure. And that final, cheesy sentiment by tails about the emeralds positive and negative power, takes on whole new meaning of you know of the sonic bible. And the original purpose of the emeralds. As the emeralds are pretty much made up of sin and evil from across the world ( which is probably why there’s seven of them in the newer versions ), so the good side of the emerald makes sense, once Chaos absorbs the sin from the emeralds, all they have to draw from is the vastly more powerful good in the world, allowing sonic to reach new heights of his power, with the stronger side of the emeralds in him.
This whole thing kindov reminds me of the Jiinjuriki from naruto. For one, having the good and evil sides of the emeralds ( Naruto and Sora ), and the idea of the emerald shells being more powerful than the spirit that inhabits them.

My favorite boss intro comes from Metroid as well, though Mecha Ridley's is undeniably badass. Nightmare from Fusion is incredibly well-built up, so when you finally see him, the payoff is enormous. Here you are, just trying to collect an energy tank, when you suddenly fall into this empty room. That chilling prelude music plays as the full form of Nightmare rises from the floor, all while making those horrible sounds. It's fitting that the creature called "Nightmare" has the most terrifying entrance in the series. It honestly filled me with dread when I first played. That's the sign of an effective boss intro. Personally I liked Bowser's intro for the final fight in Super Mario 3D World. The cutscene starts with an ominous shot of the Great Tower of Bowser Land before the big guy drops down in front of you. That already looked badass in the dark clouds and the rainy weather, but then the music starts building up as he reveals the Super Bell he kept in hand before placing it on his collar. The piano then goes a bit crazy as he lets out an awesomely evil laugh while a shining light begins to envelope him...and there it is! The music reaches it's climax as the all-new Meowser stands in front of you, showcasing his increased agility as he drops to all fours and backflips away before letting out a chilling roar as lightning strikes to start the battle. It's a simple cutscene, but a very effective way of introducing a powerful new enemy.

You should've had the choice to give Kuja a second chance and help fight Necron alongside you and then, in the end, he cannot return to life because he's already dead, but he's satisfied.

One of my favorites is all of the Four Heavenly Knights from MGQ in chapter 2, they all have good intros before the fight and have great boss fight music

I think Splatoon 2's DLC had my favorite boss build up in recent times. You slowly climb up an eerie, underground tower, whose rooms and sections bear weird, unusual names (for a world made of anthropomorphic sea creatures). The levels tend to look more like an actual facility instead of just platforming setpieces, and you also have a showdown with Splatoon 1's hero, possessed by a weird foe.
And when you're out, finally no more underground, and think everything is over, finally meeting the people who helped you through your quest through phonecalls and whatnot, the tower's head arises from the waves: it's a human head?! But humans were extinct in this world! It was so eerie, because humans are completely gone from Splatoon's world and you never, ever see them properly, but also because the head clearly was modelled after a greek statue, which represent a godly, yet human perfection. And the rest of the tower's rooms? Those were none other than the statue's body parts.
You find out the villain behind all of it, controlling the statue, was a super intelligent AI set to revive the human race, who now wants to wipe out the new life on earth because it deems it worthless and imperfect. The main character and their friends decide to plan out an all out attack on it (complete with Splatoon humor), to stop its dreams of annhilation.
I was really left surprised by that scene. First party Nintendo knows how to make cool boss intros. In general, for being a simple DLC side story, Octo Expansion was full of callbacks and symbolism to pretty crazy stuff you don't see in kids' games.

I also love Yaldabaoth's from P5, he could have been in this video easily
Edit: Same for Undyne the Undying from the genocide route of Undertale

Fun Fact: FFXIV's Shadowbringers expansion has the same intro text trick as Ocarina of Time.
HAL even gets in on the action a little as well in Kirby Star Allies, even if it does happen to be a little bit late, but it's better than never.

On the theme of cool boss intros, ultrakill has a few of them. But i'd rather have YOU play it than tell it myself

    6:23 *Internal screaming*
But seriously, it brought to mind another set of stairs in Castevania's Curse of Darkness. In Garibaldi Temple, there's a set of stairs that go down and everything is normal for a while as you descend. Then suddenly you're surrounded by fleshy walls and floating embryos that attempt to suck the life from you. At the bottom is a boss door, and let me tell you: behind that door is one epic, nightmare inducing boss...

Ah yes, The Forgotten One. The reason that Lament of Innocence earned its M rating. It's well deserved honestly. The blood and gore from that boss with the maggots eating him at the same time as he regenerates use to send shivers as I saw him. He left a bigger impression on me than The Forgotten One from Lord's of Shadow.

Great video; pretty much everything is spot-on, and I agree with it all. Really can't put it better myself.

Y'know, revolving around the boss descriptions that whoisthisgit talked about for TLOZ, I feel that Risk of Rain 2 does a great job of that.

God I love the end of a “Final Boss Battle” in every Final Fantasy game.
They arrive flamboyant and terrifying and when then leave, they slowly sometimes crumble away in pieces or explode very loud to the point to where the entirety of the universe feels their demise and we are left with so many feelings.
That’s how you end a game, in my opinion.

I still enjoy the build-up to the final boss of Radiata Stories on the PS2. The trek through the desert with Scarlet Winds playing in the background instills a somber tone along side the narrative as the player makes their way to the End of the World, which, while I won't spoil anything, is still to this day my favourite final dungeon visually and musically speaking (the use of the pipe organ in the tracks Labyrinth of Fortune and Cataract of Maelstrom and Consciousness served the atmosphere brilliantly). Honestly, I'm surprised you've yet to talk about Radiata Stories; I think you'd probably enjoyed it if you hadn't already played it.

Not my all time favorite, but the giant boss in Contra 3: The Alien Wars that rips open the big metal gates and sticks it's head out was always very memorable for me. Couple other notable ones: Gilgamesh from Final Fantasy, Luca Blight from Suikoden II, and Sinistar from the arcade game of the same name.

The Metal Gear series has some legendary boss intros. Though some find them rather wordy for two trained soldiers about to fight to the death, I like how much detail they give you on the character and what their abilities are all about. The only one who doesn't have one is Sniper Wolf, who unceremoniously shoots Meryl and just waits silently for you to expose yourself trying to save her.
I really like how the music sets up Blizzeta in LoZ: Twilight Princess, starting in wind-up toy/nursery rhyme tones, growing more sinister as Yeta is corrupted by the mirror before dropping a scare chord at the reveal and proceeding into rising eerie gospel chorus, followed by what more than one commenter has described as 'Christmas in Hell' for the actual boss.
I also don't like Necron much, but lots of other FF bosses have great intros- who can forget Safer/Seraph Sephiroth?

If you want to talk about boss entrance, don't forget Kefka from FF6. After the first 3 phases, Kefka floats down from the holy heaven in god-form while laughing manically, with Dancing Mad as BGM.
