A good example of late-use of Church Slavonic in UGCC in diaspora. St George's Manhattan is another example. Brilliant Ukrainian 'Jugenstil' repertoire. You'd have heard these pieces in any prominent Ukrainian churche in Galicia and North America in 1910.
The first two full hymns (the hymn 'Kol' slaven nash' and the concerto 'Sej den') are Bortniansky's. Don't particularly like the golf-course-hushed commentary, although it is informative.
Wow, 25 years ago. I don't live far from here either. I was 19 when this was recorded and I'll soon be 44. Pretty soon, in the grand scheme of things I'll be dead. Perhaps that is why the Christian message resonates so deeply with me, much more so now than at any previous point in my life, because I finally see the bigger picture, and how fleeting this life is.
I am Mexican American and joined the Ukrainian Byzantine Catholic church. Saint Basil the patron of the church called to me when I visited me an atheist, an anti-religious anti-church man. Lord have mercy for I was wrong.
Fact: One of the oldest Ukrainian Catholic parishes in America is in Shenandoah Pennsylvania and I think that Pennsylvania is one of the big hotspots of all Ukrainian and Byzantine immigrants if I’m not mistaken.
If you went to the American Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Diocese's online church supplies shop around Christmas you would've found Steelers Christmas ornaments for sale. Just in case anybody needed corroboration of your assertions. 😉
Who is the priest that does the introduction? He is very knowledgeable. My grandfather and his siblings were baptized in this church and some had their funerals masses there too. My great-grandparents were married there.
@@acrazy840 That is very sad, may God have mercy on his Soul and may he have recieved his eternal reward. It is a nice thing though that your grandfather is the Senior Acolyte in this video. Also, you are blessed to be in this lovely parish, since there is an oh so lovely iconostasis too, a lovely reminder of Home for the good Ukranians who founded the parish. God bless you.
There was a survey in 2019 ind UGCC, where there was the ideay that they could change to the gregorian calender, but the most people did not want. But as a result some parishes in the diaspora changed to the Gregorian calendar.
During Vatican 2 in the 60 s the Pope and Bishops of the western church voted to have and encouraged the Eastern Rite to keep their ancient traditions and strongly said they are to get rid of any Latin customs they brought in when joined the western church Pope John xxiii and later Pope St John Paul ii later reiterated this much strongly
The unions of Brest and Uzhhorod guaranteed that Orthodox Christians who reunited with rome did not have to confess the filioque or observe roman feasts these things were later forced onto Greek Catholics but now these latinizations are being thrown out and being replaced by authentic Eastern spirituality.
DE- Latinization only includes Liturgy and Prayers...Filioque is an OFFICIAL DOGMA....You are allowed to recite the creed without Filioque only if it is in GREEK recitation....But when you recite it in Latin, All Catholics must recite it with Filioque... Don't cause any schism against Rome again or you will end up like Eastern ORthodox now...Schism 2018... that's what you get when you disobey Rome...You end up in factions and divisions... He who does not gather in the unity of Peter will scatter...
I'm English speaking Ukrainian living in Ukraine! Thanks a lot for making and publishing of this historical video!
I like the continuous singing! Beautiful!
My parish. I am so thankful that they posted this. We need more video like this.

It's a shame most Ukrainian Greek Catholic churches don't use so much Slavonic today.
This is very beautiful liturgy. I'm roman catholic from indonesia

Married, whilst most Catholic priests are celebate, perhaps that's why there are different rites
If they are in union with Rome why don't they use the Gregorian calendar?
MaxKol Most autonomous Catholic Churches use different Calendars. I’m sorry, but your comment is simply ignorant.

Споганили таку чудову слов'янську Літургію своєю англійською мовою, нащо її там ?
Filioque and precut prosphora made me cringe so glad times have changed.
Isn't that the truth.
you can't be Catholic if you don't believe in Filioque...

Greek Catholics use the language of the people not latin and they do not have to recite the filioque when using the language of the people.
