I played 5 minutes of Sonic Blast Man 2 as Sonia. Instantly fell in love with the game.
Ever notice how every 16-bit beat-em-up has that one enemy who's a fat guy with a beard and suspenders/bracers?
He's even more common than punk-in-a-yellow-coat-who-turns-his-back-to-the-camera.
"I'M FIGHTING FOR FREEDOM!"
2:47 , u should have mentioned the part of the video... but yeah, he says that... lol
Thought it was we fight for freedom
The dude fishing for tires got a lol from me
I just love the music from these SNES games. Reminds me of the 90's.
Amazing arent they. 90s 4ever!!
they were pretty chill and laid back..... made me want to play different style adventure games.... but sonic blast man was really different.... just as simple as playing with combat toys.. i mean the imagination has came a while!
It's cool going back and rewatching old SNESdrunk vids 👌
I think the second one was awesome because there were so many attacks and so much variety between the three characters. Games like Final Fight were good but until the 3rd one it felt I was using the same three moves over and over again.
With so many brawlers for the SNES, you should really do a top 10 of the best ones!
Hmmm I may do that... thanks Sebastián
As long as we stick to just beat'em'ups available to SNES, I wonder if anything can really beat Final Fight series.
@@Kiatrasi You kidding me? The Final Fight games are decent on SNES but IMHO there are much more fun brawlers available for the system. Ninja Warriors, Rushing Beat Shura, Ghost Chaser Densei, Turtles in Time, Power Rangers The Movie, X-Men Mutant Apocalypse.
@@Kiatrasi Streets of Rage does
@@jaywin9048 Streets of Rage 2 and 3 are friggin awesome. I especially love SoR2 since it has magnificent music :)
The Sonic Blast Man games were developed by I.T.L., which would later have some involvement in Capcom’s Ace Attorney series, and published by Taito, which is known for Space Invaders and Arkanoid. The rights to these games are owned by Square Enix, which is known for Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Mana (Seiken Densetsu), and Kingdom Hearts. Square Enix bought out Taito in 2005. I was in the 7th grade when Sonic Blast Man 1 on the SNES was released. I was in the 8th grade when Sonic Blast Man 2 was a released in Japan. I played mostly Sonic Blast Man 1 on the SNES. I seldom touched Sonic Blast Man 2, and when I did, I played as Sonic Blast Man. Unfortunately, neither of the Sonic Blast Man games have had a modern rerelease of any kind.
Been watching many of your videos today, 'cause I'm recomending my sister some SNES games, she's a newcomer, and you've got a new fan here! Subscribed already ;) Cheers from Chile
I fortunately got a copy when it was still cheap. Picked it up at a flea market. Definitely don't regret it. If you like this then you might like Fight'N Rage, which is now on Switch I believe. It's on Steam too. It is up to three players, and has numerous different endings depending on where you go, and which of the characters you pick. Probably the best beat'em up I've played since their glory days on the arcades.
Seriously, I'd go far to say that Sonic Blast Man 2 is easily one of the best beat 'em ups on the SNES. Also, in 2011, Sonic Blast Man received a new arcade game that was in the same vein as the First Person Boxing games.
I need get the 2nd one now ha. Love my snes collection
You would be dead wrong 😅
I liked the first one more than the second. The first was different. Slow, yes, but it had HUGE characters, which was a novelty back then. And the music was amazing! I played and replayed it many times. When I saw the second, I expected it to be like the first, but better: same huge characters, but faster paced, and more moves. Instead, it had tiny characters, and felt to me less Sonic Blastman, and more "generic beat-em-up #23".
The first one was okay but the lack of the variety of enemies in the first 2 levels made it seem longer than it was,
I lost my shit laughing at "evidently fishing for tires"
Steve O'Brien it was funny. I think he was using fishing as a ruse to dump tires lol
Sonia must be Megamans sister, but all grown up
I actually liked the first. the moves were kind of funny and ridiculous. reminded me of the Tick. Music was good too.
I liked also!
Sonic Blast Man 1 was the first game I figured out a cheat "code". After playing MK2, and holding the L+R buttons (SNES) to get the hidden Akklaim logo.
If you hold L+R when choosing your difficulty, you can see an extra choice to make it really hard.
Love your videos dude. You deserve more subs. I haven't checked out sonic blast man. Guess I got lucky on that front.
He does. I love snes drunk. 1 my fave you tubers.
The second game looks like a blast, man!
I see what you did there
Those milkshakes are good, to be fair
I remember the arcade boxing machine and I think there was a sonic man arm wrestling machine also lol
I had and have the 1st from the 90s. Always enjoyed. More than double dragon.
Thanks for this lovely combination combo review of these games...🤘🏼💯✔️ My street knowledge grows stronger...💪🏼
Excellent review! Fortunately, I got my SONICBLASTMAN II copy for a great price in my country, hunting on a very known website from here... I'm still in search of my SONICBLASTMAN copy, even if it's bad... Thanks a lot for this review! :)
Thank you and have a great rest of your day.
Great review buddy!
When I was a kid, I rented Sonic Blastman 2 when I was 6. I died on Yafu on Sonic Blastman 2 on Easy. I played it again a week ago, at 35. Beat the game on Hard without using a continue.
01:32 those enemies were also in Streets of Rage 2, but this one came first, so Sega probably ripped them off
Oooooo.!!
I think in ninja warrior to and not sure but in others too maybe final figth
I think he said "A fight for freedom" =)
But why did he say it like Barney Gumble swallowed a hairbrush?
SNES drunk because he is Barney Gumble!! Superhero by day, drunkard Moe's Tavern dweller by night.
I believe it's "I'm fighting for freedom!"
Carl Hammarström I thought I heard "I fight for freedom!"
i heard 'a time for freedom.'
Sounded like a Japanese man saying "I'm fighting for freedom!" 2:47
Sonia looks good, too.
Currently in Serbia getting drunk on Orahovac; a walnut liqueur. Pairs very well with some SNES drunk ;)
Hahaa.. feel free to watch my vids man.. im sure they get better the more you drink!!
I like the look of the game backgrounds and moves and character animations
It was a one player game because the graphics were really good !! It made the Cody-less port of Final Fight look a bit silly in the graphics department
4:35 Dragon's Crown would like a word...
A guy who is fishing for tires? That sounds like an Earthworm Jim boss doesn't it?
Not so shockingly...SBM on ebay right now? $20 SBM2? ........$150 SHOCK!
I believe he said, "I'm fighting for freedom!"
A FINEYO FRITHM!!!!! That's what I heard on the title screen.
I had the first game when I was kid but these wasn't released in the UK as far as I know so my cousin got it when he went on holiday to chicago or something and swapped him my toy batmobile for it I think but then I had to get a universal adapter which I luckily found cheap in a local game shop. Those were the days haha
Was it just my cartridge or did Sonic Blast man always say "take that" before using the screen clearing attack?
One simple hope is to have these Sonic Blast Man games rereleased on Nintendo Switch Online service.
Good lord, 80-100+ for SBM2 cart only. Looks like I'm emulating this one. Good vid!
err shouldnt have sold it
brutal, we all make that mistake
Drink a Beer and Play a Game/ I know how you feel, I sold my complete copy of Conker's Bad Fur Day back in the day. 😡
Hoping for King Arthurs World for snes or Gemfire. 2 Of my All Time Favs And I'm Curious To See What You Think. Thanks For Another Awesome Video.
So, it's kind of like the difference between the first and second Ninja Turtles games?
Dude, the Arcade version isn't a first person punching game. It had you punching a punching pad in real life. The harder you punch the stronger your attack is. If that isn't awesome I don't know what is. Being 12 at the time I obviously punched like a wet rag on a pile of sticks, but I'd LOVE to have a cabinet now.
The original Street Fighter cabinet had a punch-pad too... Not sure how it would go on a beat 'em up.
Imho, a game that can be beaten in 40 min does not need passwords or save slots
4:00 What's Sagat doing in this game?
Great review!
2:47 - I'm quite sure he's simply saying "fighting for freedom" 🤔
Yeah, but with like... some kind of Stallone-esque slurring of some sort...
Like, not even "for freedom", just "Foh Friddem!"
Minnasotans don't fuck around about their Dairy Queen
I FIGHTY FO FREEDOM!
12 years old I punched with over 120 once I learned how too punch.
I remember the record on the boardwalk was 129 by a boxer who I didn't even know but anyway he would cock back and everyone would react.I walked up all by myself mom at home and broke the record that day.
As a little kid i was super smart in hindsight I realized that if I followed through on my punch and drove the pad as much as I could after contact that it was a much higher score then from there you get the picture. :)
Ahhhhhh help me!!!
Super Sonic Blastman
I hope you had a great time, cause I sure did!
This game looked a lot cooler in my childhood LOL but still good memories seeing that wind up punch
Sonic Blast Man is unlikely to get any representation in Super Smash Bros. It would only get music representation, maybe if Crono from Chrono Trigger or a character from Final Fantasy I-VI were a DLC fighter, that would happen. The Sonic Blast Man songs I’d like brought over to Smash Bros are the stage 4 theme from Sonic Blast Man 1 and “City Theme” from Sonic Blast Man 2.
I wonder which is slower Sonic Blast Man or Legend.
Legend for sure :P
I only knew it from the real puncher arcade game, most of them have been recalled as most people ended up injuring themselves
"Ahm Figh'n Fo Freedom!"
2:46 I’m fighting for freedom?
Both syrens were great but the Nintendo had a slight edge and yes it could do blast process
The sonic blastman arcade that you punched broke many a hand ✋️
It was decent little fun ass game man, who wouldnt want to use punching gloves to knock someone down the street spinning in circles....xD..... and the punch scenes when you had to time it just right, was simply enjoyable.... great music, simple little game, challenging because they had different difficultys, so you could challenge yourself too.
Looking at this makes me wonder why the Streets of Rage games are praised to the skies like they are.
Where can I download this game ??
2:47 I heard *A Taito film*
Sonic blast man 2 is fun and creative just saying.
"THE PAINFUL THRILL!!" - title screen
This game looks great mr.drunk sir
“Not a total ripoff the Dairy Queen Blizzard”
I'M FIGHTING FOR FREEDOM
I didn't care for the original, but the sequel is good fun. Also, is it just me, or does the "fighting for freedom" voice sound like Joey Ramone?
I really hate SnesDrunks mentality that 2 player Co-op automatically makes every game better, that is not even close to a guarantee regardless of its genre, Ninja Warrior's is proof positive that a good game doesn't come from how many controller ports you plug in, beat em ups need responsive controls, good pacing, and most importantly Variety.
This is a cool looking game
"It's time for Phillip"
Why do almost all the SNES scrolling beat 'em ups use what appears to be low colour mode for the HUDs. I mean look how terrible the HUD looks in the second Sonic Blastman game in this video for examle. The character head shots always seem to use just two colours or so, which really looks cheap now that I've started noticing it in almost every game in this genre. All it would take is a couple of sprites over the top to add some full colour head shots in there, and I know a few beat 'em ups on the system have done this properly so it's not a lot to ask. >:-(
Lol were u even born yet when this game came out?
@@katewehr414 Before.
Note: The reason I point it out is because I've been watching a LOT of SNES vs Genesis videos recently, and in almost all cases I noticed the HUDs at the top/bottom of the screen on the Genesis versions use more colours. Although, to be fair, the SNES almost always uses more colours in the actual main game views, which is more important ultimately, but it's just an observation and a slight pet peeve I now how with the SNES versions of said games.
Hope I haven't started something that awakens the same pet peeve in you now. . . .
;-)
2.48 he said "I fighta of freedon"
your welcome 2:47
I currently playing this game on emulator in my phone
What? You've never been tire fishing?
How aesome had it been, had they released a third game with a green hero. His name would have been Manic Blast Man.
I just want to play streets of rage 2 now
I’m fighting for freedom
The fighting for freedom!!!!
I got this for a gift one year for easter or something. Not that great. Not sure if I ever even beat it.
Sonic Blast ftw!!!!!.... i... i mean the milkshake....
this needs an All-Might hack.
$17 and $90
Three years later, $40 and $230
I heard "I won't fail"
I remember being bored with SBM even as a kid.
Fighting for freedom
It just sucks because the sequel is 10x more expensive.
Great.. and the Sonic blast does suck DQ is better. Fight for freedom
FIRECOOK GRILL
