Oh, I didn't expect it to get that full in the plant room so quickly! I thought the new arrangement and you being a bit more reserved (even though it's hard to resist) when it comes to getting new trees would help, but it's still so full! Maybe another level of shelves + lights is needed... But it's great to see how healthy the trees are and how well they're doing in the plant room :) _Edit:_ The Ginkgo fall colors are quite something. The combination of red, yellow and green was beautiful and inspirational!
The good news is that I have filled the basement and plant room with trees. The bad news is that there is no more room in the basement and plant room for more trees!! Love it, but it is a real problem. I am sure you will find a solution, though.
I’m in Oregon down in a valley. Sometimes snow, sometimes freezing rain(rare) sometimes temps in the 20’s F. I put all my trees on ground down in a hole and mulch over pots so they don’t freeze. Then I put hoops over them and cover with frost cloth. So far so good. Haven’t had a heavy snow for some time. Will see what comes. Never know what weather will do these days😳👍
Yeah, that rat tail jade is actually flowering! It has many red-ish small flowers on the green stems. When mine flowered, I first noticed the smell and only when looking closely I could see the tiny flowers hahaha
I wish you good fortune on getting the rest of the trees in Sir Nigel. This should be your best winter yet in the plant room though. I do miss the Canada Arm tho.😋 Lol In that garden, you've found the traffic signal of trees!!!
WOW! You sure do have a lot of bonsai to rehouse in your home. Perhaps this winter you could think about how to get that large greenhouse put up outdoors next spring/summer. Wouldn't it be nice to not have to do the yearly "plant shuffle". (As an orchid grower in southeast Florida I sometimes have to do that when we have unexpected cold fronts or tropical storms/hurricanes.) You could probably make it in stages for the next few years. I'll bet there are bonsai enthusiast who would help you with the project.
I love when you do these videos Nigel. I take notes where you put your trees so I know where mine should be going. This is my first year putting trees in my basement. I hope it will be cold enough for some of my trees that can't be outside. Thanks Nigel.
My Ports are still outside in my unheated greenhouse. Going down to 31F almost like a bit lower than 0C. I am glad you were able to get the ports into your heated areas.
Oh boy!! Every time you add a tree indoors, make sure you tell it, "Think Thin"... LOL I want a ginkgo now. Just kidding, my husband would kill me.... I have a lot of trees. I broke down and ordered Sequoia and dawn redwood seeds. The shipping is triple what the packs of seeds I ordered cost. Hopefully I can get them to grow! I'm going to look back to see what you did. It's currently snowing here, not staying on the ground yet, but becoming constant and my outdoor trees have frozen soil. It did not thaw yesterday or today. I'm very jealous of your weather.....
Luckily you haven't filled the top section of the plant room yet... Are you still going to go for that? Putting lights in the rafters and put top shelves? At least that way your tropicals would be safe. We're shifting round +/-0 here in Finland and I still have my olive tree (Olea Europaea) in the balcony in a pond basket. All my surviving tropicals are already indoors (lost a few more this year). Soon I have to make room for the Olive, maybe a cut down too - well see. 💚💚💚
Hey Nigel ! I could help you out with looking after a few trees for you over winter. I think what you might be smelling is the tiny little flowers on the rat tail Jade, mine smells the same and is smelling up my plant room !
Great updates with moving time How's your back after the move? UA-cam been giving me late notifications? hard to be Foist when I miss the premier! Too tall for the light Frankin Ficus big cut coming up!
Moving all our trees indoors is so much work. I sure wouldn’t want to film it lol Each year I’m worried I won’t be able to fit them all. I’m sure you are familiar with the concern.
Hi Nigel, Thanks for showing us that garden with yellow, green, and red. In ornamental gardening, designers often try for four colours by adding some blue (or close to blue like purple). That four colour scheme would be neat to add to a planting!
Do you try recreate climate and seasons for your tropical trees over the year or just continuously give them light, temperature and humidity as much as possible?
Thanks for the video, Nigel! I don't know if this will help, because your basement is so full, too, but the asparagus fern and the crown of thorns can take very cool temps. I have them in a solar greenhouse that drops into the 40s at night (4 C.) It's warmer during the day, of course. The crown of thorns blooms all winter in those conditions. They do need light and that might be a problem in your basement set up.
awesome channel and videos man! really been enjoying them since I found your channel a couple of days ago. I have a beautiful, very large brazilian rain tree, and every time i bring it in for winter, i get a lot of leaf yellowing and dropping, even though I built a shelf with built in overhead full spectrum LED lights. is there any way to avoid this, or something specific I should be doing? i'd appreciate any tips, as this is my best tree
WELCOME! TBZ is the best bonsai progression channel hands down. You can follow over a decade of development on some species he has, he's a wonderful teacher and has a natural flow just like his amazing trees. I've learned loads here and thoroughly enjoy the clip and grow style Nigel practices, I look forward to learning more as well, his forest compositions are stellar! But, to put my 2¢ in, I also get leaf yellowing and dropping at the end of the season even with grow lights. Seems any sudden changes rock the BRT. Thanks for joining us! Good luck!
@@RyanFish825 thanks for the input! it always recovers, but i do get some dieback on some of the new growth from the season, which always feels sad to me, but I guess that's just part of the process thanks again, and all the best! really looking forward to seeing the upcoming videos on this channel :)
The plant room looks great! I brought mine in 3 weeks ago… Except for my Oak. Thinking about repotting that one soon, if it’s safe yet? Freeze next week so I’d like to do it before I can’t get it out of the pot.
The first winter for me since getting into bonsai. I accumulated a lot of different trees in the last 4 or so months. Now to figure out what to do with each one. 😵💫
I just love your tours.
Ciao Nigel, mamma mia quante piante, hai tanto da lavorare, tutte bellissime davvero non so come fai a seguirle tutte, bravo.
My favorite topic on your channel. Always exciting to see if you can fit all trees in authum.🙂👍
Makes me thankful to be living in zone 8b, Preparation for winter is so much easier,

Good luck with the big squeeze Nigel! You'll get em! I feel your struggle!
I moved my trees in on the same day, must have been the right day for it!

Good luck squeezing all your plants in the plant room. Update welcome 👩🏻🌾🪴

👍👌👌
The tropical come indoors
Lots of trees need lots of space…you’re doing a great job Nigel. Time for me to start moving mine. All the best from the UK 🇬🇧🇬🇧
The plant room is behaving just as you predicted, and quite conducive to great plant growth. Great update Nigel.

❤ Love it!
Have the same problem. All south facing windowsills are now taken by plants. I'm really trying to keep my tropicals to a minimum but that's hard.
Maybe let a few of the tropicals go to new homes? As a big fan for many years i would be proud to own a Nigel tree and ad it to my collection 😊
Great updates with moving time

As a 2 years ago, I would still say that aluminum foil on basement walls could help you to increase light intensity via reflections.
You have a full house of your trees. Where did you put your mini's? You need a cup of tea after all of this work.
Very nice video😊
Thanks for the visit

Just thinking of your electricity bill. Do you have solar panels?
And an update on the Porsche, the poultry and the cats would be nice. Cheers.
❤❤
Ha ha, anyone surprised that not all plants fitted in the winter spaces? No, we all knew this would happen.

do you have some trees inside you house? like in living room etc.? that might be a solution for some smaller remaining trees
Time for a plant auction?😄
Have you thought about leasing a space? It could include space for making videos during the winter months.
How do you maintain the 85% humidity in the plant room also what temperture is you basement kept
