Tip: Decals will loosen quicker in warm water. Older decal sheets lose the adhesive over time. After applying them to the surface and letting them dry, lightly spray over the entire area with 'Clear Krylon Fusion' for plastics. Dries in 15 min.
I use an old cotton t-shirt to burnish the decal down onto the surface and absorb any moisture beneath the decal. If I need to reposition the decal within a few minutes of laying it down, I soak the decal again with warm water, sometimes with a tiny drop of dish soap to break the water tension, then use a corner from the decal backing paper to lift the decal off the foam. The decal backing paper has a "slimy" texture to it that won't tear the decal. Great video!
Hello, I would just like to say thank you so much. I am building a model for the first time (f-86f-40) an had no idea what to do with the decals. This video is awesome and I’m so happy to find this, thank you.
Thank you for using waterslide decals. I hope that you continue to offer waterslides for all your models moving forward. As someone who likes to customize/paint my planes, having waterslides NOT pre-applied makes that SO much easier to customize my plane than those with traditional pre-applied stickers.
Also lightly brushing a little decal solvent or setting solution over the decal after application will help the decal settle nicely into all the panel lines and difficult contours.
Great stuff thank you i am going to be applying two waterslide decals to an electric guitar body. I presume they can be removed in the same way by wetting them?
Was making a P-47 Thunderbolt and couldn’t understand the stickers. Glad I found this video as it helped a lot and you explained it perfectly. Thank you!
Great video, and I like this new "Quick Tips" idea! I know quite a few folks I always see asking about balancing props. Seems Benchcraft now has a prop balancer!
sweet, thanks for this! I built a Telecaster style guitar and applying a Fender decal will really tie it all together... thanks for showing how easy this can be :)
Great work James! I will be posting my usual mini updates on my Mig-29 repaint. I hope you will enjoy it! Callie was super busy. Good for me though got some flights done!
How about some tips on how to apply water slide decals to compound curves such as nose art, wingtips, vertical and horizontal stabs tips? Additionally... Got any suggestions on how to waterproof the decals on a foam warbird without leaving a glossy finish? I found that getting caught in the rain will soften the decals up, just avoid touching them until the dry again... Thnx!
We can do another video for sure. But a decal setting solution like Micro Sol will help with compound curves as it softens the decals and a coat of clear miniwax is what many use over their decals to protect them
Just encountered these for the first time building a 1;48 scale aircraft. The ones for my model are so tiny, very hard to work with. Especially for ones that go inside the cockpit.
I always thought these were defective when I got a waterslide in a rocket kit, seems like a better way to make a decal sit into body lines and odd curves especially on an aircraft!
I had repeated trouble with the edge of the decals flipping under and adhering to the underside of itself, creating a fold. Just as the first 1mm edge of the decal was sliding off the backing. These were tiny little 4mm by 4 mm decals on an Estes Saturn V and also the Saturn 1B. No way to unfold those edges on the model. Anyone know how to fix or prevent this?
Does anybody know what kind of paper he's using? or what is the best paper to use. I bought some waterslide paper but it seems like it creases too easy and ink comes off at the creases. Any help appreciated. would like to buy the best quality paper possible. Thanks!
These decals come with the plane. I have never tried to print my own waterslides, but know some who do. I'm sure a google search will lead you to the right type
There are 2 types, one for laser and the other for inkjet printers. You can buy in amazon or lazada very cheap. Best to use laser types as it doesn’t need sealing right after ptinting.
I also prefer water-slide over stickers. The get sucked to the surface after the water is gone and form the details much better. There are also shops where you can order decals after your own drawings. Even with white on it.
Encore une vidéo très intéressante, et des images toujours de très bonne qualités comme les autres.. Merci pour l'astuce que je connaissais pour les petites maquettes plastique .. I love your Job and this job is for you really Merci de la France in the south !!
Not that I would see a purpose to do this, BUT if you ever wanted to remove it or reposition it AFTER its dry, (say, a week or more) can you rewet it and do that? Other than that, I learned a lot on this video. I want to start applying the decals to my warthog but I didn't get instructions (unless it's in the manual. Who uses a manual?!?! Pfft ). This showed me exactly what I need to do! Thanks, James!!
Waterslides still have a type of adhesive to them that is protected by the backing when you initially wet them, but once they dry, they would just flake off if you tried to re-wet them and move them. Once they are set, they are set
Thats an option, but not a necessity for the purpose of this video. This video is really just to help people unfamiliar with Water Slide decals on how to remove them.

Exactly the kind of info we hope to see in the comments. Thanks for the tip!
Warm water is a good tip, that's what I use as well.
Good tip👍🏻
@@MotionRC Hi. Thanks for the video. How do you protect used decal from mechanical alteration?

Thank you for this!!!! As a stubborn "know it all" newbie who just got his hands on the flightline FW190, this video humbled me :) thank you!
Glad it helped!
When I first got into modeling I cut around the decals and glued them on with a glue stick I kid you not!
@ArizonakillerPK90 that gave me a solid laugh, thank you!
Just used this guide to finish off a late Xmas gift for my brother. Thank you so much.
No problem, glad it helped!

Thank you I just got maverick’s f-14 by Revell and didn’t know how to do the decals
Purchased a custom water slide decal for one of my guitars- thank you for a very straightforward approach to applying it-
Same here , I'm refinishing my 83 Ibanez Roadstar2 , I'm just ready to apply the headstock decal , then a coat of satin urethane.
I recently purchased a Angus Young Devil child waterslide decal for My SG guitar, this made things way easier to get the job done, awesome video 😎👍😁
Also lightly brushing a little decal solvent or setting solution over the decal after application will help the decal settle nicely into all the panel lines and difficult contours.
Yes, very good tip as well.

heyo! this helped me a LOT while applying waterslide decals to my helmets. thanks!
Glad it helped!

Thanks for the simple video , its direct to the point !
Thanks for the video, it has been a very long time since I’ve used these and I needed a refresher class.
You're very welcome!
Great video, and I like this new "Quick Tips" idea! I know quite a few folks I always see asking about balancing props. Seems Benchcraft now has a prop balancer!
Thank you for the tip, makes it a lot easier to apply them the right way!
This is unbelievably helpful! I thought I had defective waterslide paper-
Well just did my first on a Boosted Birtha model rocket kit, looks great!
sweet, thanks for this! I built a Telecaster style guitar and applying a Fender decal will really tie it all together... thanks for showing how easy this can be :)
Thank you! I figured it was somewhat like a water tatto! Huge help for my first drift rc build.
You're great... I do that with photos onto porcellain, before baking.
PROPER ...
Nice video man! Very helpful! Now, if I didn’t screw up everything I did this would go better on my end!
Great work James! I will be posting my usual mini updates on my Mig-29 repaint. I hope you will enjoy it! Callie was super busy. Good for me though got some flights done!
Nice Vic. I'll look out for it
Thanks so much man!
Useful video thank you.

I can only imagine. I envy static model builders of small scale. Takes patience and the right tools. For that, you need a fine tip needle nose pliers
Really great video, very helpful. Thank you 🙏
You're very welcome!
Super cool video. I have a problem with my waterslide decals: they come off really easily after a couple of hours from laying down. Is it normal?
Awesome video man
wow looks so easy thanks .is a water decal a special kind of sticker or its just the name of the method you are using ?
This really helps for gunpla
Simple, no time wasted talking uselessjunk. Good video. Thanks
This is very helpful video
I always thought these were defective when I got a waterslide in a rocket kit, seems like a better way to make a decal sit into body lines and odd curves especially on an aircraft!
It worked well for my first time 👍
Good to hear

Brilliant video very informative especially for first timers 👍👏
When will the Mig 29 be on sale in Europe?

would spray painting several layers of clear coat help? just a thought....
@@flyinbryanfpv yes thank you. I sprayed it with a lacquer spray and that works well.
Can you tell me the exact model of the paper?🙏
I also prefer water-slide over stickers. The get sucked to the surface after the water is gone and form the details much better. There are also shops where you can order decals after your own drawings. Even with white on it.
How can i remove decals from my F-14 for redesign without damage the paint?
Good tips. Thanks.

thanks for this video :-)
Very welcome, hope it helps!
Surprised you don't use Microset after application, gives a better detail end finish around complicated areas.
Thats an option, but not a necessity for the purpose of this video. This video is really just to help people unfamiliar with Water Slide decals on how to remove them.
We like tips 👍🏻
0:01 that was literally me yasterday with the F-35 decals....
hahaha, but the F-35 comes decaled?
comment thumbs up! 🤩👍
Roderick!
Try that with 1/72
blokes from across the pond pronounced them deck-ail not that there's anything wrong with that, just different 🤩BB
I got this plane today and i thought they are stickers. Thanks for the tip
Lmao literally just tried to peel and yourtubed found this and lold
That is much easier with a good pair of scissors
small water slide decals are very annoying to work with
