    My tribe is from Alaska, we are Tlingit people of the tides, and I knew this was fake from the moment it aired, one of the wife's claimed to be this great fisherman, but when her skills were put to the test she acted like a fucking prissy ass bitch , screaming because a salmon touched her foot. My grandmother was cracking up the whole time.

    Always get a kick out of it when Billy says comments like "the kids have
    to show me they can handle things on their own". Are you kidding me? Matt, age 34, Bam, 33, Bear, 29 and Gabe 27. They should all be able to everything without Billy being there. When do they become gown-ups, age 50?

    • @bft284
      @bft284 7 років тому +79

      And one last thing. When Billy says "I get worried when one of my kids wants to go out hunting on his own, something could happen. He could run out of food, or fall and get injured". Guess what Billy. I'm quite sure the camera crew following him has food, and would probably help him if he fell. In fact I'm pretty sure they could have a Discovery helicopter there in minutes. That's why this show is so fake.

    For being a family that had lived in the bush with bears before I found that the season three episodes were so full of it it was a laugh. The boarding of the windows with large gaps so the bear claws could rip them off again, doors swinging inwards so easy for a bear to push in. Building of the grid showed the doors swing out so the frame helps keep the door from breaking inwards. So many small things and always seems to be a drama each episode - so much bad luck.

    News Flash - If a show has "reality" in front of it, unless it's a game show (and you can't always trust those), it's not reality. There are producers , directors, writers, etc. involved. I remember meeting a documentary producer years ago that informed me how produced MTV's Real World was. He went on to explain to me how nothing you see on TV is real, it's all produced. I talked to a girl that was on Blind Date. I thought "surely that's a realty show." She told me that the shows producers followed them everywhere feeding them the questions to ask one another. Ever notice how almost every end dinner scene had the same mindless adolescent questions about sex? Best thing to truly not support these shows is to stop watching them, and up your traffic renting or streaming scripted TV shows past and present.

  • @danielellisporter

    I'm from Alaska originally. Most of the people I know from there saw through this crap right away. an observant individual would have noticed that while building their "house" they were stapling the cardboard over drywall. why would you need cardboard if the drywall is already installed? fake! the whole show is another attempt by discovery to interest people in alaska. they should represent the state of AK in a better light. I have honestly had people ask me if alot of people talk with the accent that this family does. Alaska is an incredible place full of tough and independent people. remember, Sara Palin isn't originally from Alaska so don't judge us too harshly

      Ryan Ferretti cardboard may be an insulator but not one 1/8" piece and not in alaska. I build houses for a living. They were saying that it was because they were so poor that they had to resort to that. The house I originally grew up in had burlap potatoe sacks stapled over the insulation. I get hard living and I saw no signs of it at "browntown". I saw a bunch of nutty people acting even nuttier to guarranty another season of their horrendous tv show. If u enjoy it for entertainment purposes then do so. But that was not what was being discussed in the above video

    • @captainjim6300
      @captainjim6300 7 років тому

      The carboard was temporary until they could get the inside walls. I never saw any drywall but maybe I missed it. It is a reality show but it is not 100% real. They basically reenact stuff the producers want them too. In the part of Alaska they are in it is not near as cold as it was the first season. They are way down at the southern end now. Also they do not film in the winter so who knows where they live in the winter. They surely make a decent living having a high rated show on Discovery.

    • @danielellisporter
      @danielellisporter 7 років тому +5

      Captain Jim that all may be well and good. if you watch the clip in this video u can see the drywall behind the cardboard. but this show is still billed using "alaskan" in the name. this is simply using a name for marketing purposes. I don't see mick dodge Washington homeless man used in the name. they are capitalizing on the success of their previous shows about Alaska and it represents the state in a poor light. call it "nutso family that has no survival skills" or, better yet, "non-alaskan residents that stole permanent fund money from the state coffers". both of these titles would be much more applicable than "alaskan bush people". it is not a representation of the vast swath of people that live in "the bush" in alaska

    My family and I truly do live "off-grid" in the same Cascades forest where they filmed the Viggo Mortensen movie, "Captain Fantastic" about a family that lives off grid in the Pacific Northwest.
    Off-grid does not mean you don't have HBO or a W/D. We have both because we generate our own electricity (solar and propane generators). We have a gravity feed water system and composting toilets.
    We watched a few episodes of the Brown's and we were suspect right away that it was fake. For example, when you live off-grid the main year long chore is harvesting firewood. Each year we need 10 cords of seasoned firewood stacked by October and that's just enough to get us through winter months. The Browns have firewood here and there but not nearly the amount they would to get through the winter. Also, they don't hunt, fish, or gather nearly enough. Instead, they spend time doing dumb but entertaining stuff like building huts out of tires.
    And last season's finale when one of the brothers, Matt I think, admitted to secretly driving into town each night to get drunk at the bar. How does he get to town any night without the rest of the family knowing when all they have, supposedly, is a huge boat?
    We are sick and tired of off-grid people like us being portrayed as white trash anti-social idiots who don't have a clue how to survive or are so into survival that they come off as just plain weird. Ours is an alternative lifestyle. We bath and drink wildwater instead of treated water that all our neighbors peed in over and over again.

      Gold rush is real to an extent.. in other words, probably the most “real” reality show out there. But there is controversy. Take Fred “Dakota” Hurt for example. Him and his son were apart of the Hoffman crew during their first two seasons, back at porcupine creek. When fred bought the claim to porcupine creek before Todd Hoffman could renew his lease, discovery offered Dakota his own segment on the show. He turned it down because he didn’t like how fake and scripted discovery made the show seem. He posted a few articles about this, one of the first ones being on his public Facebook page from 2014 where he said “If you want a miner, call me... if you want an actor, pay me like one”. Ultimately, he wanted the show to be as raw as possible with out and added drama or audience bait.
      However, if you’ve been watching discovery at all, Him and his son Dustin, have their own gold mining show coming out soon. The name has changed a few times. I believe it is now called White Water In A Rush. I think it would be interesting to see if he caved into the scripted drama discovery had in mind, or if he finally got a raw, bare bones gold mining show.
      Basically, Gold Rush could be exposed in this same way. But given how much of what you see is real, it would be a boring video to make and watch.

      Mitchell Topolinsky, The only thing "White Water" has to do with Todd Hoffman is that he borrowed them money. They are a completely different crew. There has been a whole episode about it.
      They still do real gold mining. The drama is probably added to some extend, but I don't think it's in the amounts you claim.

This show is about a particular lifestyle that these people have chosen. Just because you can't see every aspect of their lives doesn't mean it isn't reality for them. People have become so accustomed to the fake drama soap opera like the Kardashians and the housewives of... that they think everyone is full of shit. At least this show demonstrates the struggles and triumphs of hard working people even if the episodes are staged tv. They are actually doing discussing and participating.

In that episode, they were following a car repossessor who has just taken a car around 145th and Crenshaw. I was on patrol and saw a red Nissan NX come out of a neighborhood "blacked out" (no lights). Thinking it might be a "fresh" stolen, my partner and I light it up. They certainly do not wear survival or appropriate clothing for the conditions, most the time. They aren't poor. Look at all the silver jewelry they wear. Most of them wear glasses. They are collecting royalties off Billy's books, he's written several. 30 year old sons, unmarried, still living and hanging out with Mom and Dad? They have some building and mechanical skills, which is good, but some of the boys are just plain WEIRD. Believe me, they know about technology. I bet they all have cell phones, just not on the show. You're nuts if you don't think you walk up on animals regularly and routinely in AK. There's no need to fake that at all, if you're in the woods or near a river or shoreline in this state, it's a matter of time before you're in a frame with an animal. you develop a defensive reaction to twitching bushes along roads and sidewalk...

      Well I did watch and I did point out to my wife that on several shots supposed to be at different times..they were all in the same clothes. Now I'm not saying that maybe filming didn't have something to do with that. ...But I will say you don't just walk up on a deer...with a camera crew~

    I don't know if they are real or not. I do think the show should be called "The Bad Luck Browns", because they run into more problems than any family I've ever seen. If they have lived in Alaska for so long, it seems they would be more prepared for the weather and other mishaps. It seems more like the northern version of Gilligan's Island.

    Lol, ok so the only legitimate argument here is the one in the very beginning where they went back to alaska to recreate their lives, indicating that maybe they didnt live that way at the time (but on the other hand, maybe they did and just wanted to make a documentary about it)
    I agree with david alans' comment, ofc it is spiced up for tv but still very real.
    -They said they were broke on only a couple occasions, and for the most part they say that they earn their living by the boat delivery and many small jobs the boys do in town. (ofc they made money of the show but maybe they have a contract that prohibits them in the use of it during the show and that they must continue to live in those conditions for the duration of the contract)
    - And another thing, if u actualy watched the show many times, you would've seen that they do NOT clam to not know anything about modern technology or culture , they actualy claim the opposite, that they like movies, that they used to watch them when they went into towns, etc. etc., and they know many things about culture and movies, but are not "in" recent events. honestly neither am I bcz I don't care about it.
    - California dreaming - california is FULL of actrecess big and small, and I've seen stranger conicidences happen in my own life and the lives of others so I don't rule that out. (And u would think they would change her name if they "hired" her to act)
    - next - so they took the money xD So what? I don't get why people only think of extremes like - if u live in the bush u gotta be poor, uneducated, unrefined, unknowing of anything beyond the woods... omg -.- Living in nature is not about protesting modern society, it's about a better life that CAN include technology and movies and arcades and stuff, and leave out all the shitty things that are usualy present in modern society.

      His wife left with their daughter because he is so foolish that he wouldn't build a bear proof dwelling to live in and bear proof food storage like all the other alaskans do. Clean game inside your tent so the blood and waste that drops into the flor can smell and draw bears and wolves into your TENT; that,s just stupid. All those bear attacks on female campers around the country, they don't report it , but the bears smell the blood during the females period.

    I like Survivor. Jeff Probst just says, I made all this shit up; I make millions of dollars from you watching this 39 day play I put on with people who apply to be on the show. The End. That's about as "reality" as I get. The producers interfere to greater or lesser degrees to get the ratings they need to survive, just like any big business. America has taken it too far, hasn't it?
